If you have any brand of kamado, I highly recommend one of these. Update: Well, I've had this a little over a year and it is already starting to fall apart. Last night I took it out of my kamado Joe and noticed what I thought was some sort of residue from the lump charcoal but it turned out to be deteriorating metal. If I could make any improvement, i would bend the handles in slightly, this would make it easier to pick up The 2017 joe has a metal retaining ring on the top of the multi piece fire box, the handles are directly under them, I have accidentally popped the ring off picking up the basket to shake it... it is a pain in the ASH to put that ring back on If this change was made i would give 5 stars for sure! I could never get the types of sear temperatures they talked about... until I switched to this. Awesome !!! The packaging explained how to do a slow burn, and then up it for searing. Worked perfectly - smoked a roast before searing it, for a perfect, tender, smokey, medium-rare tenderloin. Clean up is as easy as a Weber Performer. My only complaint is that after three uses, the handles are rusting! I am in Florida, so anytime there is a rain storm moving in my Kamado Joe gets covered to stay nice and dry. My grates are not rusting, none of the Joe's metal parts are rusting so I am perplexed! The basket does what it is supposed to do, I am disappointed that it is rusting after a few weeks of ownership. This is the missing link. Creates more surface area, and greater ventilation - resulting in higher heat. Makes for easy clean up, and easily allows hitting the 750 to 900 degree temps. Downside is hard to do slow and go without almost shutting down vents completely. So I go back to stock grate when smoking, and use the basket when I'm looking for the higher grilling temps. Sturdy build, and should have lasting power. Clean and store when not using, so not in the elements when not being used. The cast iron grate that comes with the Kamado Joe has small holes that are easily clogged, restricting airflow. Not a problem at all with this.
