    • Sturdy and easy to use but blade is not sharp
Overall great product and well made but the blade is not very sharp at all. I would buy this again but I’m slightly confused why the bleed isn’t sharper. I feel like it would it be even easier to use if it was sharp.

    • Remember, this is for kindling!
When you look at this kindling splitter, it has an opening on top that's many times greater than any piece of firewood you'll want to put in it. Firstly, it comes disassembled and you'll have to assemble it. It's not too hard as there's very few parts and you'll need only one tool and that is provided. Secondly, the blade comes dull as a butter knife so you'll definitely want to sharpen it before finishing assembly. Do this before attaching the top part as it gives you greater access to the blade than if you waited until you finished assembling it to try to sharpen the upright blade. Thirdly, it comes with long wood screws to screw it into something...an old stump, some 4x4's or whatever. It does work better if it's solidly attached to something heavy. I didn't use it that way, but it'd work better. Like I said, the top opening is bigger than any piece of wood you can realistically split with it, so start small and work your way up until you get a good feel for how big in diameter you can use this for. In my case, maple that's 4-5" in diameter will split using a good size hand sledge, but elm definitely can't be split bigger than 3-4" in diameter. I think they really should make the top opening smaller so you don't have to always hold the bigger pieces with one hand while swinging the sledge with the other or be tempted to put too big a piece of wood into it and end up getting a hunk of wood stuck with the blade only half-way into the wood! As always, be safe and have a clear work area and start small, working your way up in size. ... show more

    • SOLID construction - this thing works great!
This is the easiest way to split little kindling pieces I've found to date. We heat partially with wood (in the Appalachian mountains, so we get some cold weather) and kindling is usually just offcuts and scraps, but having a tool to make some is pretty awesome. The construction is super solid, so I'm not worried about knocking a log through it with a sledgehammer. So far it has put up with everything I've fed it - I'll update this review if something goes wrong. Until then, it gets five stars from me! ... show more

The splitter requires very little effort to use yet produces excellent results. The best way to keep it down is to hold it down with your foot. It's substantial without being too hefty, and it comes with a bag that's pretty good. It assembled together quickly and without any difficulty. The media could not be loaded. This splitter works great with very little effort! It would work best if it was attached to a base and there are holes that would allow you to do that, but holding it down with your foot works also, it just allows for a little bounce and slide, as the splitting edge is not sharp. It's weighty without being overly heavy and comes with a really nice zippered storage/carry bag. (I was almost more impressed by the bag lol) It went together quickly and easily with 8 provided screws, which I thought might make for a loose, wobbly unit, but it doesn't at all. I'd recommend this for kindling or small log splitting for sure. Great fireside! ... show more
