I bought this rod to try and match another I had bought about 6 years ago, to use for some 82" blackout curtains. The product page looked a little sketchy (with rendered photos of the rods), but I figured I'd take a chance. The first thing I noticed when I received the package is that the rod is cheap and flimsy. There is maybe a half inch of overlap between the inner rod and outer rod at 48" extension, which means the rod can barely hold itself up under its own weight without curtains. It would instantly bend open and crash to the ground if it had any curtains on it. I have three pictures which compare it to the older rod I bough 6 years ago (different manufacturer). You can see the difference in the mounting hardware, the old one has thicker metal, almost a full loop to hold the curtain rod, and has a slotted hole to allow for a little forgiveness when drilling the holes for the anchors. You can also see the older rod is thicker and has much much more overlap (about 9" more) at the same extension (see the pic with arrows). These might work for small openings with lightweight curtains, but anything over a 30" span, I wouldn't bother. You'd probably be pushing it even at that. ... show more
