We have a similar Kenmore canister vacuum that is 20 years old. It always worked well; but eventually needed a replacement. When we ordered this vacuum, we thought it would be just as good as our old one; but as it turns out it is MUCH better. It's roughly the same size but weighs less. The suction is significantly stronger. The 'bag' is twice as big. It was every feature our old one has and more. The attachments are perfect and fit very conveniently within the vacuum itself. The telescoping wand is great. ALL the connections, both connecting and disconnecting have been improved greatly and are effortless. It has too many features to list; but I would suggest scanning the included paper manual (nice in modern times) since it has features we would not have noticed unless we skimmed the manual. I was concerned with 'mail ordering' a vacuum. I was pleasantly surprised it was well packaged and arrived in perfect condition. You will find some vacuums that are cheaper and look very similar; but they are not. For the quality, features, and function it is very much worth the extra money to buy this model. ... show more

    • Monster Vacuum Sucks so Good

I was expecting a smaller vacuum, and yet this thing shows up and it's huge! However! It's not very heavy. I don't have trouble hauling it up and down the stairs, but it really was much more substantial than I'd pictured. In addition, the size of the hose/connections is larger than the standard, I think, and since it has an odd little bit for the electrical passthrough it doesn't play well with generic add ons. I got an adapter kit that had something that worked for me. Check for product dimensions, otherwise ask me a question and I'll measure mine. Does it work? Oh yes. I have two dogs and a husband that abhors vacuuming. His space was covered with fur. This did a *super* job getting rid of the fur (and of course dirt etc). The attachments work like attachments should and store nicely. I can't help but feel the bag style is a waste of materials, as you basically fold the bag in half and attach it, so it only gets halfway full before the bag indicator lights up and you have to swap. Works on hardwood and tall thick carpet with equal ease. It has variable suction so you can get deep down carpet clean or just enough to dust a shelf. Maneuverability? Well, let's just say you're not going to take this out on the town as a dance partner. It's clunky, and while there's *some* maneuverability in the main attachment, there's not much. I find myself picking up and repositioning if I have to go around things, rather than vroom around it like a sports car. All in all, I'm keeping it. ... show more

    • This Kenmore as ALMOST as good as my old one...

I've had a Kenmore canister vacuum for years and just love it. It was used and abused. Easy to manuver and use up stars. But then it finally broke into pieces. Literally... Still worked like a champ but there was too many parts broken from abuse. It lasted for 25+ years so I decided to buy another one. The new one is ALMOST as good as the old. If you don't know, there is a groove in the bottom so when you vacuums stairs, you can pull it up by the hose and it will sit on the stairs as you go. Great design. My first gripe is that the cord reel doesn't pull the cord back very well. Which you just push a button on the top of the vacuum and it should pull it all the way in. In the Newer model, the self winding spring just isn't very strong and pulls the cord in like 90%. All but around 3 feet go back in. Then you have to feed it in slowly. Unsure if I just got unlucky with this one but it doesn't pull all the way in. Second gripe is the hardwood floor attachment was re-designed. The old one was a single piece of plastic that stayed on the floor. This new design has a pivot point and when you pull back towards yourself, the head of the hardwood floor attachment lifts off the floor and it loses suction. Bad design! Just bad. Why make a good design worse?? I don't know but they did. The carpet head works well. But they removed the light in the new model. Picks up dirt very well. Who vacuums in the dark anyway? Well, we all do because the hallways, closets, and under beds are dark so they should include it. I did buy the "Amazon Renewed" product which was around $100 cheaper but it just came in a beat up box but the vacuum was unused and new. Plastic was still on it! Take a gamble and go for the Amazon Renewed one. You will save a lot! And don't worry about the purple color. It's a vacuum and looks fine! This vacuum cannot be beat for it's versatility and convenience. Just bought our second one. If you are really serious about cleaning your house, then this is the answer. It is excellent on carpet/rugs. The solid surface floor wand can get all the way under furniture and to the corners, up and over things, low and high, quickly and easily. The pet attachment for furniture is the ONLY thing that will lift that hair right up! The suction is very powerful! There are settings for low and power and low and high carpet pile so you can vacuum high pile on lower power without sucking it up. The wand is adjustable for your height. It's light weight. It makes cleaning very easy, convenient and quick! The only downside, is the durability. It's plastic and tends to crack, break and fall apart easily. We had to duct tape our last one everywhere but that motor was still going strong!!! Important to change bags out, clean filters and change out filters regularly. ... show more
