  • Works fine for my GE water softener
Even though this is a Kenmore part it fit my GE softener perfectly, as described in the seller's page. I did learn two things. When you are removing the old unit, after the water supply is off and you open a sink valve to release the pressure, make sure the bypass valve is in the filter position. I had it in bypass and about never got the hold in clips off because there was still pressure in the water softener tank. Secondly, put the pipe fittings on the new unit first, at least hand tighten, before inserting the unit into the softener. Then put the hold in clips back on and snug down the pipe fittings. I did this in reverse the 1st time and since the pipes don't line up perfectly I totally screwed up the plastic threads on the valve before I realized the fittings were not lined up straight. It cost me buying another valve and being without water for two more days. The 2nd try with the 2nd valve went perfectly. Live and learn... ... show more

  • So far so good - did what I bought it to do
I don't love that these are all designed w/ threaded connections. I saw some of the other sizes come with the quick connect for the pipes as well which I would prefer as the brass fittings going onto these soft plastic 1" threads are so easy to cross thread and instantly wreck the threads. Only other complaint is how narrow the inlets is (it isn't any different than the OEM part though so nothing's changed - just wish they'd design these for max flow but maybe it doesn't matter when considering the restriction of the softener itself?) That being said, this was an easy swap, and no leaks. Wish it came with clips, but I was able to salvage the old clips thankfully without too much trouble, so this swapped out a lot fast than expected. As others have suggested, I made sure to lube the o rings with some silicone plumbers grease (super cheap and available at most home stores and a good thing to have on hand if you're doing any simple plumbing work using gaskets/o rings.) and they slid right in easily. ... show more

  • Fits right and does the job
When re-plumbing the hookups to my Sears water softener, I had to cut the old bypass valve out of the water softener. This replacement fit perfectly and works perfectly. The new valve has been in service for a year now with no hiccups. Note that you should purchase two Kenmore 7116713 clips to anchor this valve into the water softener -- the original clips probably broke when you removed the old bypass valve, or when you tried to re-use the old ones on the new valve. ... show more

  • Perfect fit for Ecowater water softener
Found that the bypass valve was leaking on our Ecowater water softener. We ordered the new valve from Amazon on Friday evening and we got it on Saturday afternoon. It was a perfect fit! It did not come with new clips so you must be careful not to damage the clips. With the water turned off, press the discharge button (or Regen). This relieves the pressure. Now push the valve back in towards the softener. Carefully pop the clips loose from each side, lastly popping the top loose. once the clips are removed, carefully pull the pieces apart. As you put the new valve in, thread the copper nuts on loosely before you reinstall the bypass valve, assuring that they are not cross threaded. Push the two pieces together again, tightly, snap the clips back in assuring all three ears on the clips are seated, snug up the copper nuts and you are back in service. It was so easy, it took longer to write this review. Thanks Amazon!! It Couldn't have gone smoother. ... show more

  • It worked perfectly to replace a failing original GE bypass valve
After reading many positive reviews here on Amazon as to this replecement bypass valve, I just wanted to add my positive remarks. As many have metioned before, it fits perfect, easy to install, just be sure to shut off your homes water, open a faucet, then be sure to have the old bypass valve pushed in, just as you would to soften your water. after removeing the two black plastic clips ( becarful, they can break somewhat easy ( many youtube videos as to how not to break them ) and having loosened the two plumbing water lines, remove the old bypass valve. Mine still looked like new but had started to drip at the "out" o ring area. So I removed the new unit from the plastic bag, compared it to the old unit, and other than the new unit having a "T" handle to push or pull, it looks to be the exact same unit. As many have mentioned, I first reinstalled the two water lines until almost snug, then put the o ring ends back into the softener. Reinstalled the two black plastic clips then tightened down the two water line nuts to the bypass valve. Pushed the bypass valve "T" handle to soften water setting ( pushed in ), Turned the water back on, allowed the faucet I opened to bleed the air out, then checked for leaks. No leaks at all. Great price for a great product, Thank you! ... show more

  • Exact match for manufacture's part
Super easy to install. There are no instructions - but the only thing that you really need to know is that a pair (total) of black plastic clips hold the bypass valve in place and that you should very carefully remove the clips since there are not replacements in this kit. I used a bit of Vaseline and basically lubed up the replacement part so that it would slide in more easily while improving the health of the o-rings. ... show more

  • Picture is misleading
The picture is very misleading and so small (without anyway to enlarge it) that you can't tell by looking at the picture. This was the wrong valve and we had to return it and find another supplier who had the right one. Thus keep the water softener out of commission for another week.

  • Kenmore 7129871 Water Softener Bypass Valve Genuine Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Part
Replaced the old leaking Kenmore Bypass valve with this new valve and no leaks now and everything hooked up exactly as the OEM part. I tried to repair the old valve with new O-Rings which slowed the leak down but didn't stop it so decided to replace it with this new valve and I'm glad I did!
