๐Ÿš€ Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The Kasa power strip generally receives positive reviews, with users appreciating its individual switch for each plug that can also be controlled through Alexa. Customers also find the product handy for controlling lights and for usage in hard-to-reach places. However, some users have faced issues with intermittent loss of contact with the app and a shorter cord length than desired.

Pros

  • ๐Ÿ”Œ Individual switch on each plug assists in separate control.
  • ๐Ÿ’ก Can be used to automatically time lighting, especially for those who are often away or have hard-to-reach outlets.
  • ๐Ÿ“ฑ Compatible with Alexa for effortless control.
  • ๐ŸŽ„ Great for powering holiday displays.

Cons

  • ๐Ÿ”€ Sometimes loses contact with the companion app, requiring physical resetting.
  • ๐Ÿ“ Cord length is somewhat short, limiting its placement.

Should I Buy It?

With its practical features like individual switch control and Alexa compatibility, the Kasa power strip could be a great addition to any home, especially for those who value automation and remote control or need to reach hard-to-place outlets. However, if cord length is a crucial factor for you, inspect the product specifications before buying. Concerns about occasional loss of app contact might be a potential issue but seem to be infrequent.

  • Great for controlling multiple devices with safety routines
Kasa Smart Plug Power Strip KP303 โ€“ Surge Protector with 3 Individually Controlled Smart Outlets Another great product from TP-Link. This power strip ended up being perfect for a setup under the bed where I wanted better control of a few small devices. The three individually controlled outlets make it easy to manage different items from the app instead of having everything powered all the time. One of the biggest advantages for me is being able to eliminate phantom power draw from chargers and small wall adapters when theyโ€™re not actively being used. Itโ€™s nice knowing those devices arenโ€™t constantly pulling power. The safety aspect has also been a big benefit. I use one outlet for a mattress heating pad and have it set on a routine that automatically shuts off every morning. That gives some extra peace of mind so I donโ€™t have to worry about accidentally leaving it on. Like the rest of my TP-Link setup, it integrates perfectly with my larger system that includes Tapo and Kasa devices. Setup was easy and it has been reliable in daily use. Overall this has been a very practical addition to my smart home setup. ... show more

  • A must buy!! A must buy!!
Exactly what I was hoping for. Great quality and I absolutely love the timer and schedule functions. It is very easy to setup with the app. I am using for my reptile lights and scheduled timers for light on and off and certain times and it works great!

  • The best smart strip
I have multiple of these. They work great. I mainly use them for scheduling and auto shutting off things like TVs and lights. The setup is super easy in there app. And the scheduling and timer are also very easy to set. You can also rename all the plugs and the area and "Home/location" very easily to organize if you have multiple outlets. There is also a favorites section that you can stick your most used plugs into to make it easier to find if you have a lot of plugs. The price is a little more than normal power strips with surge protection. But to get the smart features it's more than worth it and I think a good value. It's also Alexa and Google Home compatible. I recommend getting the strip versus the individual plugs because it's more economical and always better to have more outlets than less. ... show more

  • Perfect remote power cord
Love these! Have several. Easy & fast to set up. Phone app is easy to set up & control remotely. Adapts to Alexa easy as well. Can be set up on a schedule. Lasts for years. Only negative is - occasionally after a long power outage it may require a re-connection, but thankfully itโ€™s easy.

  • Works well ... nearly all of the time
This smart power strip continues to do what it's advertised to do ... 99.9% of the time. That 0.1% is the problem, but I'll get to that. It worked out of the box using the instructions provided. I downloaded the Kasa Smart app onto my phone, and after setup I was able to name and control the power strip's three outlets (I got the version with three outlets) independently, or combine two or all of them together into a group and control them at the same time. I can also control them with Google Home. It's advertised as also being compatible with Alexa, but I don't have anything with Alexa, so I can't test that firsthand. Each outlet also has a toggle button that allows the user to switch that outlet on or off manually, and each button has an LED that shows whether the outlet is currently supplying power to whatever's plugged into it. This is a bigger deal than one might think at first. Imagine a desk lamp with a chain that can be pulled to turn it on or off, but you can't tell by just looking at it whether that pull-chain switch is on or off. Now imagine that you plug it into this power strip and it doesn't light up. Where's the problem โ€“ is the light bulb burned out? Is the lamp turned off? Is the power strip's outlet off? Well, I can eliminate the third question by just looking at this power strip and making sure that the outlet is on, so one pull of the lamp's chain will tell me whether the light bulb is burned out or not. The thing is, occasionally the power strip will just suddenly stop responding to the network. I don't know what causes this, but it will suddenly and silently disconnect; its power light and connection light will say that it's powered and connected to wi-fi, but the app says it can't contact the device. I can still manually toggle the outlets on and off with the buttons, but I can't control it with the app, or Google Home, etc. I can unplug the device and plug it back in, resetting it, and things work again. But I never know when it's going to glitch again, and that unreliability is what gives this device four stars instead of five for me. It doesn't happen every day โ€“ it's been weeks since the last time it happened, in fact โ€“ but not knowing what caused it or when it's going to happen again adds just enough uncertainty that I can't quite trust it. I'm not going to plug anything into it that might be disastrous if it couldn't be controlled. Very well designed other than that shadow of unreliability. ... show more

  • Requires some understanding of how this device communicates with routers and networks.
I definitely ran into some problems with setting upthis strip, but there is a happy ending due to the help I got from Karen at TP link tech support. The simple instructions that came with the strip were not enough. The issue was that the strip needs 2.4ghz and though my router broadcasts both 5ghz and 2.4ghz via steering, the strip couldn't communicate with the router. On-line threads told me to set up two separate SSIDs, Xfinity said this was not advisable, and the guy at the Xfinity store said it was the only thing that would work. I called Kasa/TP link support and Karen walked me through exactly how to do it, using the TP-link network (not my Wi-Fi network) to set it up. So, it works great and Karen was exceptional tech support. Happy ending, lots of wasted time and frustration beforehand though; not the device's fault, more the incomplete instructions. ... show more

  • Bigger than expected
After adding this to the Tapo app i was able to link the account to Home Assistant. Each of the 3 outlets can be used independently in HA. Its also very quick and responsive in HA. The strip was bigger than i was expecting. This is not really an issue, it was just unexpected. On the plus side, with the larger size the outlets are spread apart which allows larger plugs to fit next to each other. I am using this outside in a waterproof box to control our holiday inflatables. With the larger size of the strip I did need to get a larger box to fit the strip. Again, not an issue, just something to be mindful of. Even with the strip outside in a box it has been reliable and has had no connectivity issues. ... show more
