Top Amazon Reviews

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The Kasa power strip generally receives positive reviews, with users appreciating its individual switch for each plug that can also be controlled through Alexa. Customers also find the product handy for controlling lights and for usage in hard-to-reach places. However, some users have faced issues with intermittent loss of contact with the app and a shorter cord length than desired.

Pros

  • 🔌 Individual switch on each plug assists in separate control.
  • 💡 Can be used to automatically time lighting, especially for those who are often away or have hard-to-reach outlets.
  • 📱 Compatible with Alexa for effortless control.
  • 🎄 Great for powering holiday displays.

Cons

  • 🔀 Sometimes loses contact with the companion app, requiring physical resetting.
  • 📏 Cord length is somewhat short, limiting its placement.

Should I Buy It?

With its practical features like individual switch control and Alexa compatibility, the Kasa power strip could be a great addition to any home, especially for those who value automation and remote control or need to reach hard-to-place outlets. However, if cord length is a crucial factor for you, inspect the product specifications before buying. Concerns about occasional loss of app contact might be a potential issue but seem to be infrequent.

  • Works perfectly!
This power strip has been awesome! The app is easy to install, setup, & use. We have it turn on/off the heat lamp, UVB lamp, & humidifier in our lizards enclosure every day. It's nice not to have to worry about doing that every morning & evening. He likes the consistency. :)

  • Easy to set up and works flawlessly
Very impressed by the build quality, extremely easy setup, and wall mounting option. I use this to automate lights and air fresheners which don't otherwise integrate with other smart home apps. I'd recommend this to anyone who has 'dumb' devices they'd like to integrate into their smart home.

  • Kasa KP303: Savvy Powerplay for the Discerning Techie
As a hardware hacker with a penchant for home automation, Kasa's KP303 piqued my curiosity. Three individually controllable smart outlets, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connectivity, and ETL-certified surge protection – all in a compact, user-friendly package? Sign me up. Initial setup was a breeze, the Kasa app guiding me through a painless Wi-Fi handshake. Connectivity remains rock-solid, even on the fringes of my router's reach, thanks to its sensitive 5dBi antennas. Individual outlet control is a boon, letting me power-cycle finicky devices or automate elaborate "movie night" routines through the app's intuitive timer and scheduling features. Speaking of the app, it's a geek's playground. Granular power monitoring lets me track individual outlet consumption, which is a boon for optimizing energy use. The local API access, a hidden gem, opens doors for custom Raspberry Pi integrations and voice control beyond Alexa and Google Assistant. However, no tech gem is flawless. The lack of 5GHz Wi-Fi support might irk bandwidth-hungry users, and the app's versatile automation options could benefit from more advanced logic like geofencing or IFTTT compatibility. The Kasa KP303 is a potent blend of user-friendly convenience and techie delight. Its robust connectivity, individual outlet control, and hidden API access make it a steal for the price. While it won't replace my Frankenstein's monster of custom Pi-powered relays, it's earned a permanent spot on my workbench – and a solid recommendation for tech-savvy tinkerers seeking a smart power upgrade. ... show more

  • Works well ... nearly all of the time
This smart power strip continues to do what it's advertised to do ... 99.9% of the time. That 0.1% is the problem, but I'll get to that. It worked out of the box using the instructions provided. I downloaded the Kasa Smart app onto my phone, and after setup I was able to name and control the power strip's three outlets (I got the version with three outlets) independently, or combine two or all of them together into a group and control them at the same time. I can also control them with Google Home. It's advertised as also being compatible with Alexa, but I don't have anything with Alexa, so I can't test that firsthand. Each outlet also has a toggle button that allows the user to switch that outlet on or off manually, and each button has an LED that shows whether the outlet is currently supplying power to whatever's plugged into it. This is a bigger deal than one might think at first. Imagine a desk lamp with a chain that can be pulled to turn it on or off, but you can't tell by just looking at it whether that pull-chain switch is on or off. Now imagine that you plug it into this power strip and it doesn't light up. Where's the problem – is the light bulb burned out? Is the lamp turned off? Is the power strip's outlet off? Well, I can eliminate the third question by just looking at this power strip and making sure that the outlet is on, so one pull of the lamp's chain will tell me whether the light bulb is burned out or not. The thing is, occasionally the power strip will just suddenly stop responding to the network. I don't know what causes this, but it will suddenly and silently disconnect; its power light and connection light will say that it's powered and connected to wi-fi, but the app says it can't contact the device. I can still manually toggle the outlets on and off with the buttons, but I can't control it with the app, or Google Home, etc. I can unplug the device and plug it back in, resetting it, and things work again. But I never know when it's going to glitch again, and that unreliability is what gives this device four stars instead of five for me. It doesn't happen every day – it's been weeks since the last time it happened, in fact – but not knowing what caused it or when it's going to happen again adds just enough uncertainty that I can't quite trust it. I'm not going to plug anything into it that might be disastrous if it couldn't be controlled. Very well designed other than that shadow of unreliability. ... show more

  • Works seamlessly with Alexa
Had this product for a few years now and it’s still humming along. I like that there’s a manual on/off switch for each plug in case you wish to disable one and not the others. The connectivity with Alexa is very good and there’s even 2 USB ports.

  • Reliable!
I have Kasa products all around my house! Fairly easy to set up. I have had some issues getting the mini Kasa plugs to link up. But once it's set these are so helpful and convenient. My main use for getting these was to put my reptile lights on a schedule. I love how you can go into the app anytime to check on this or change the schedule up so quickly. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Nice Strip, not if you want energy consumption.
So i picked this up, and went by the item description on amazon and didn;t do my due dilligence because i wanted to place the order quickly so i would get it the following morning. I thought this was the power strip that can monitor energy consumption, but this is not that model. I plugged in this strip, made an account and i quickly and easily got this connected to my wifi. the customization on each plug is nice, you can add an icon or image of the appliance plugged into it. but i wasn't seeing the energy consumption. If you want the energy consumption monitoring power strip, you are going to want to look at the HS300 Same thing with the smart plugs, you will need to look at the kp-125. But the app is clean and easy to use, there are cheaper ones out there that can monitor power but i like this kasa app/ecosystem. Also, there is no native Smartthings support, but you can use smartthings via the kasa app, i did that prior to boxing this back up to return it. the only reason i'm returning it is i purchased the hs300 to monitor power of my computers and 3d printer etc. ... show more
