Very pleased! Purchased where I needed a new power strip and wanted one with smart integration. It was so easy to setup where I already have Kasa Bulbs. I also purchased so I can monitor our energy usage, especially during the on peak hours. It's a game changer for smart home or even for energy monitoring. I really enjoy being able to turn an outlet off by my voice (Alexa), using the Tapo app (love the widgets!), or by a tap on my watch through SmartThings. The app has schedules and timers which is extremely convenient, I use those features a lot. I also have routines setup through Alexa for some things on the strip and for my bulbs. Certain lights and things plugged in on the strip will automatically turn on when I get home at night which I'm sure has prevented some nasty falls down the stairs. My daughter loves it too. Before getting the strip she'd get all comfortable with her phone or tablet and just to find out her mom unplugged her charger since it wasn't being used. I didn't even realize how much time I was spending by unplugging and plugging things back in until I got the strip and it's been great. Energy monitoring has been great and the only thing I wish the strip had was the energy bill estimate like the Kasa mini plugs have. I was really hesitant on purchasing at first where someone mentioned the cord wasn't long enough but I've loved every product of Kasa's that I've purchased so far. I figured if it didn't work where I was wanting it then I'd still use it somewhere else. The cord was definitely long enough for me and was a lot longer than what I was expecting. I don't have pics where it's plugged in behind a huge heavy dresser and sits underneath it. It's one of my fav smart home devices and I'd purchase again.

Perfect for the entertainment system, we can quickly power cycle the TV, Sound Bar, and Amazon Fire Stick with our phones when streaming apps get stuck or sound gets out of sync. The Kasa app that controls the power strip is easy to use and extremely responsive. The spacing on the outlets is perfect for power adapters for our electronics. Unfortunately you can't switch the USB ports on and off which would be the ultimate addition to this product. As far as surge protection, we recently had a power surge on the street that affected us as well as our neighbors, we all lost some random electronics from the surge that weren't protected by a power strip such as this. Everything that was plugged into this power strip survived, plus the electronics inside the power strip itself was able to tolerate voltage that went as high as 137.5v for a few seconds which was recorded by a sensor plugged into our house!

This wasn’t a cheap product price wise in my opinion but you get what you pay for. It feels sturdy with a quality build. I haven’t connected it to Alexa as I don’t want the kids to have the ability to mess with my stuff. But, the app was super easy to setup and works very well. I have some of the outlets on a timer program. When I manually shut an outlet off, the response time is remarkably quick from my phone. I am very impressed and happy with this purchase.

I really like this power strip. Being able to control the outlets individually is extremely useful when several pieces of equipment share the same location but don't all need to be powered at the same time. Setup was straightforward, it has been reliable, and the Kasa app makes it easy to control everything without crawling behind furniture. 5 stars.

So I just got this and set it up and I'm pretty pleased with it overall. The app is good but not great. I did have a little trouble with the initial connection, but that probably mostly my lack of attention. I didn't read/interpret the on screen directions correctly. :) Once I connected to the power strip wifi it connected with no issue. I bought this to limit the consumption of idle devices using vampire energy. My TV and sound system was using > 10 watts just idle and realistically I only use them 3 - 4 hours a day. My Laptops when powered off were consuming > 10 watts too. My concern was how much energy was this power strip going to use. I couldn't get accurate measurements from TP - Link and reviewers answering the question were simply guessing, so I took a chance and bought a couple of these. I did some testing and the following are my results: > When the power strip is switched on and all 6 plugs turned off my Kill A Watt meter showed that it was using between 0.9 and 1.0 Watts. > Each plug you turn on increases watts it was using, by roughly 0.45 watts. With all 6 plugs powered on (nothing plugged in) my Kill A Watt meter measured 3.6-3.7 watts. *I also tested this with LED status light on and off. It is a little hard to find but this can be turned on/off in the app. What I found was that there was no measurable difference on my Kill A Watt meter when the LED status light was on or off. I measure them individually as well as with all plugs turn on. I'm sure there is some consumption but the Kill A Watt is limited to 0.1. So I left the status light on for now so I can visually see if the plug is on or off. The app: Overall I'm happy with the app functionality, but it seems to me that it is missing a couple of things that I would find useful. Good: > The ability to create groups and turn on and off that group from the app with one action. > scenes (way to turn on/off a group of plugs) is extremely nice. Similar to a group it gives you the ability take an action on an individual plug or a group (i.g. turn on or turn off the defined plugs). > Scheduling. I have setup a couple of schedules but haven't yet monitored things to see if they work as intended. Again the schedule allows you to take some action at a particular time of day. You can create it based on day of the week and time. Pretty basic but it covers my needs. Bad/needs improvement: > Power consumption: I found a bit annoying and think that TP-Link/Kasa could greatly improve upon here is the ability to view/measure the consumption of each device. To do so you have to go into each plug and open up the "energy" section. What would be nice is if you could see or add the consumption to the screen next to or below the defined plug. It would also be nice to see the total consumption for the entire power strip or group for example. Other things good and bad: Good: > built in surge protection > USB outlets Negative: > Not Homekit compatible, but for me I don't really care and the Kasa app is ok for me. > USB A outlets ONLY and may limited in charging ability for fast charge or higher power needs. However, at 12 watts output it does seem to charge my tablet with no complaints. So no real complaint here other than I need an adapter for all the new USB C plugs. > can't control the USB outlets. It would be nice to be able to control these too so if you left your tablet plugged in you could limit power consumption by turn it off after a set time. > For some the Summary: If you have a single device or multiple devices that you don’t need/want to control separately it would be cheaper and easier to get a single smart plug versus a strip. I bought the Kasa slim homekit single outlet and they only consume ~4.5 watts when the plug is off and 1.0 watts when the plug is on. However, if you have 2 or more devices you want to control them all separately then this is more efficient than individual smart plugs. At least from the standpoint of energy consumption. However, the power strip does have the advantage of a built in surge protection which isn't something the single outlets usually provide. Over all I think this strip provides decent value and should pay for itself in a couple years by saving power on several idle devices that are always sucking power. By scheduling and making it easy to turn on groups of devices (like my TV and sound system) I calculated that I should be able to reduce my power bill by at least $70/year. Maybe more if I find other vampire energy devices that are idle most of the time.

I love easy smart home automation. I purchased 3 of these units to install in various locations to control the power outlet for a few devices in the home. Mainly my IT office and garage. There are some things in the house I want to be able to know I can turn off remotely and also watch the power utilization. Which I didnt think I would care about power usage itself that much, but it has been handy to see the power usage of devices plugged in to see how they actually affect my wallet over time. I was really shocked to find that this strip could handle the needs of my garage air compressor and shopvac just fine. Air compressor was very handy as I can command Alexa to turn the air compressor on or off when needed and no it wasnt going to go off in the middle of the night trying to recharge the garage air system. Modern air compressor by the way, check your air compressor power needs before using as some pumps need very large start up power to begin use, but my air compressor design allows for "easy start" by removing compression from the first few strokes. But still 11 amps of power on startup. I used them to connect the different leads for the outdoor christmas lights and set digital timers on each plug to turn and off at defined times to avoid worrying about anything outdoors and even the christmas tree itself. Mind blowing to have it manage them all through the weeks of the holidays. I really have no complaints thus far, as the ability to manually turn on and off per port is there, USB charging is onboard (note not remote controllable of course, they are on if power to the board is on). You can groups ports into different programs, or schedule independently. Nice to look at, well constructed as well. You do have to use the KASA home app to set them up initially, but can easily combine with other home automation systems like Google Home and Alexa. I have both systems possible as well as others. No hub required at all. Give each port its own name and you can command that device at will. Great work, looking at getting more soon.

This worked great for a few months, then I changed my router. It still honestly worked fine as a powerstrip/surge protector until recently when I tried making it a smart strip again. My pc is plugged into it(mostly to monitor power usage) along with some other stuff like a normal lamp, fan etc. normally all off. Since I got a re650 tp-link wireless extender to strengthen my network connect around 6ft away from the strip, it has been randomly shutting itself down for an instant effectively shorting anything connected... (testing my network on my pc the signal is 300mbps, regardless wifi shouldn’t be triggering a reset if it wasn’t a problem when I hd no router for a full month) 3 times just today and I refuse to continue using it for fear of damage to my electronics. It’s not even about this being a good smart strip this is literally not even a good power strip anymore. I opted to go for tp-link because they have a lot great reviews and if this was still the product I got when I opened the box I’d agree but now I’m shopping for a simple surge protector to replace this hemorrhage of wasted money. I’m usually about reading every level of reviews and am very careful with my purchases so I hope this review helps people. Not all bad reviews are reflective of performance but I’d definitely take risks with something else, this didn’t even make a year. After my recent problems with my extender and router I’d suggest avoiding the tp-brand altogether as their 5 star reviews seem inflated compared to my own experiences. My fault for banking on 3 devices all from the same company. Either a lot of the better reviews are bots or there’s a huge silicon lottery with these things.

I wanted to minimize the electricty costs of my reef tank by turning off non-critical equipment at peak times. I also wanted a way to monitor pumps and heaters. Pumps start using less current when they die. Heaters either stop turning off or stop turning on. For the first purpose this is fantastic, always hate to install a new app, but the app set up as quickly and easily as they ever do. Not as good as an aquarium controller for the second purpose but if you record how much current pumps use when new it makes it clear when they need cleaning. Heater monitoring is only sort of possible, heaters which are stuck on will boil the tank before you will notice in the app. I didn’t see any way to alarm if on longer than X. Might be able to turn on heater for a limited time every day to minimize impact if it gets stuck on. It would be possible to confirm a dead heater though by checking the last time it turned on. Also found some other uses. This makes it way easier to turn off a pump temporarily since I hit a button in an app instead of turning off cords. It is possible to tell an outlet to turn on if it is turned off at various times. If for example you have it turn on every day at 10PM, then if you forget and left a pump off after cleaning it will turn itself back on. A common way people crash tanks is forgetting to turn back on life support after maintenance. Be careful not to forget this step if you intentionally leave it out permanently. Turning off a pump, then setting a timer to turn back on in X time appears possible but is enough more difficult I will probably manually turn on and off instead. Noisy filtration devices that do not need to be permanently on can be set to only run when no one is around the aquarium. One thing I don’t see is a way to alarm when this dies. I really would like a notification if for example a GFCI trips this device off.
