Kala has collaborated with Maori cultural artist Sam Mangakahia to bring you “The Voyage Collection”— 3 unique pieces of native Maori artwork. Sam has been telling stories through his art for 13 years and has created over 450 custom art pieces that each have a story. The 3 designs/stories focus on specific human experiences we all share in common. They are: Unity, Courage and Guidance. Each design has natural elements that speak powerfully to these experiences. The artwork is laser-etched on mahogany, available in concert and tenor sizes. Each ukulele comes with: a personalized Voyage Collection gig bag; and story card hang tags telling the unique message each piece of art expresses

I’ve returned so many ukuleles for different reasons, but I finally found the perfect one for me: 1) it’s a Kala; good quality, 2) I like the tenor size, 3) the nut isn’t too wide, just under 1+7/16”, and the action is fairly low, 4) I love the Courage design and it’s Maori meaning as explained in the attached card, and 5) it’s mahogany. I’m not sure if it’s solid mahogany but it sounds beautiful to me. (I may change the strings to fluorocarbon with low G after these wear out.) Thank you very much Sam Mangakahia! ... show more

Bought it July 2024 and it has held up very nice, sounds good looks good. The strings hold up pretty good as well, don’t have to tune it too often.

The tattoo design on this Kala ukele is beautiful.This is my 3rd uke,an upgrade.I had purchased an Enya tenor but sent it back due to poor sound quality.Brought this one to a music shop had them check the tuners and switch strings out before breaking it in.It has beautiful sound, a little deeper than my concert uke.Frets smooth although I had to gently file the edge of first fret corner.Actually just used a nail file ,the sharp edge corner was hitting my hand at the base of my pointer with different chords.This uke is really light to carry.Also bought a different case,the one it came with has a thin padding ,I felt it didn't provide enough protection to the neck to bring in the car for gigs etc...It came with a card explaining the meaning of the tattoo design which will make a nice conversation when hanging out with my friends when playing. ... show more

Absolutely in love with this Ukulele. I’m a beginner and wanted something a little nicer to learn on. The sound is beautiful! It is pretty light weight and not super heavy either. My only complaint is the bridge is pretty sharp on the corners and does hurt my arm after a little bit of playing. If that was sanded down an hair and not so sharp, it would be perfect. ... show more

I own 8 ukuleles and wanted something that was etched. This is very nice and very playable. Looks great on my wall and in my hands when I play with my group!! I put Aquila red strings on it with low G and it sounds great. Very happy with purchase. Kala is a great reliable company.
