  • Ten thousand miles later, finally installed it!
Finally got around to installing this on my 2014 Ford Focus yesterday (1/18/16). Must admit, I was intimidated by the installation which is why it took so long. I used the 7 minute YouTube video by K&N as my primary installation reference. The enclosed 33 step brochure was rather daunting. However, I did refer to it to make sure I got the correct screws, washers, split washers, etc. The video doesn't tell you those details. There was a confusing part of both the video and the installation brochure. The silver tube has a hole where you place a grommet and a threaded nub in the middle where you need to twist on a threaded 90 degree plastic elbow. It is never real clear how these are supposed to line up. There is a sticker on the pipe in the video on the end nearest the engine, but in the brochure it is on the end nearest the air filter (or vice versa). It didn't seem that the pipe was symmetrical, that the bend was more to one end. But it didn't seem to matter. Ultimately, have the grommet sticking straight up and the 90 elbow off the underside of the pipe and pointing towards the windshield. That allows both subsequent attachments to fit most easily. The engine rev test doesn't do it justice. You'll watch the youtube videos and listen for it but you just don't get the same growl that you do when you drive away and give it some extra gas. The car is much more responsive and gets up to speed effortlessly now whereas before it seemed like the engine was just out of shape and would get there just as soon as it could. It isn't going to create a 5.0 L mustang out of a 2.0 L Focus, but it is a helluva lot more fun now and it sounds great....especially when you do hit the gas. I'll be curious to see what my gas mileage ends up being, but so far, even with all my efforts to hear the new growl, the mileage hasn't suffered at all. I took my girlfriend out to show it off. She happens to also have a 2014 Ford Focus which she has been disappointed in ever since getting it, particularly because of the sluggish feel of it. She wants me to install this on her car now. Not for the sound, but for the new life it should bring to her car. Note: both our cars had the transmission recall work done on them prior to me installing this. If you haven't looked in to it, look up the recall. Loving it so far! Hard to replace a perfectly good exhaust system, but that just might be next in order to maximize this investment. Growl on! ... show more

  • Exceeds Expectations
Purchased this intake for my 2012 Focus SEL Hatchback. Installation instructions were extremely precise and removal of factory hardware was a breeze. I did however, let the previous reviews influence my judgement a little too much when it came to the install itself. This was ONLY because of the expectations I have when it comes to following installation instructions in general. I basically left my common sense elsewhere when it comes to following instructions. Other than the lack of my own common sense, the install time from start to finish (including clean up) was 2 hours. The power increase was definitely noticeable. Since I do not own a dynamometer I cannot confirm exactly what increase in numerical horsepower was a result from this intake. Nonetheless it has increased horsepower to a noticeable level. In-cabin noise level has increased dramatically when it comes to vehicle acceleration :) As stated in previous Amazon reviews, I notice the increased noise level every time I accelerate. Between 2,500-4,500RPM has been the sweet spot for my Focus. I have also been told by a friend that accelerating noise has improved from outside the vehicle as well. Please note that I haven't been able to peraonally confirm this yet. Fuel economy has remained unchanged. I believe this is because of my love for the sound of the vehicle. I have begun to accelerate harder than pre-intake times which of course has decreased fuel economy. As for highway driving, fuel economy has improved from 7.0L/100km (33.6MPG) to 6.6L/100km (35.6MPG) when driving 120km/h (74.5mp/h) with weather conditions ranging from -5 to 15 Celsius (23 to 59 Fahrenheit). I will recommend this K&N intake to anybody driving the newest generation Ford Focus (2012-Present) hatch or sedan. I use my vehicle on a daily basis and depend on it for many aspects of life. Please note that other intakes for the 2012-Present Ford Focus are currently available. Personal brand preference may ultimately determine which product is right for you. My decision to purchase K&N to others was because of this. Do your research before purchasing so you won't have second thoughts afterwards. • Great sound, but that's mostly it
Installed this a few years ago on my 2016 Focus and it really makes the engine note a lot more sporty and noticeable to me. If you're looking for something to just add to your car to make it feel a little more sporty and to get into tinkering around your car. Don't expect major increases in horsepower though, for all intents and purposes your car's power will stay the same, with maaaaybee a slight bit more power in the 4-5k rpm range. If you prioritize comfort i'd decide against it as it does also increase the cabin noise ... show more

  • Amazing product and quality. IT WORKS!!
I bought this intake because i had heard that a cold air intake gives you more mpgs and HP so i decided to try it. Install was not to hard just time consuming i pre-assembled everything before trying to install it, which took about 40 min in total i spend about 80 min installing. The sound it makes after you give it a little gas it’s amazing compared to the quiet and settle ride it would make. Made it a more fun drive for me and the best part it’s that it came with extras! the mpg on city I would avg 33 or less now city i get 35.3, highway i would get 38 maybe a little better depending on my driving, now if i drive to save gas I’ve been able to get 48.3mpg and the car dose feel more aggressive I’m really happy i made this purchase not cheap but well worth it. 2013 Ford Focus Titanium ... show more

  • Easy install and a great new sound!
Instructions were perfectly laid out step-by-step and easy to follow even if you have never installed anything under the hood before. All hardware is provided, just bring your own tools and the job flies by, even if you are doing the install alone. I didn't see much of an increase in fuel economy, but now my car sounds so much better I'm sure I drive it a lot meaner, and my fuel economy definitely hasn't gone down. I'm sure once I calm down on the pedal and stop having as much fun with it I'll see some gain on the MPG end. This also helped with the little bit of slump I saw when stop and immediately starting again (stop lights/signs). Now that I see the potential in my 2012 Focus I'm saving up to replace the stock exhaust as well! Everyone who has heard it says it really makes the car sound meaner without being obnoxious or sounding like a ricer. ... show more

  • Whistle and growl!!!
I installed this on my my 2012 Ford Focus Titanium, primarily because I wanted to add horsepower. (i wanted the Focus ST, but my wife "can't drive a stick", so this is the next closest thing in a Focus). It makes a HUGE difference in the sound. It whistles and growls; literally. It made the car sound like a race car under the hood. At launch to about 3,500 RPM and when you punch it, it sounds very throaty, and you can hear the whistle of the filter as it sucks the air in...very cool. The installation was pretty easy. The only challenge was getting one of the connecting hoses attached to the stock MAF, which you move over as part of the install. it was really tight, but I got it to work by taking my time. The MAF hosting is plastic, so be patient! In all it took about 75 minutes to install, and the longest part was getting the last heat shield installed because you have to move the hood latch and reinstall. Not a huge issue, but was tricky. If you don't want additional cabin noise, especially at launch and when you drop the hammer, then this is not for you. Note: I do have to qualify that It's not very noisy at cruising speeds. But if you want to make it sound more aggressive and add some power and throttle response, then I would recommend. ... show more

  • I love it!!!!
I am really enjoying everything about this cold air intake. the sound, the added power (not much but for sure noticeable) & the gas mileage is actually going up and I'm zipping around more than I was before. The car purrs at cruising speed & when you drop a gear? Forget about it! Will 100 percent be installing this kit on any & every other car I buy between now & death lol ... show more
