Well, after a week of driving, I can now report on the installation and the so-far-results. It did take a bit longer then 90 minutes. I have a 2001 Toyota 4Runner and there was a need, like with others, to drill a large hole (1&3/8")in the intake pipe. Since the pipe is a ...pipe, using a large hole saw to drill on a curved pipe is a bit of a pain. I decided to use a straight drill bit of the largest diameter that I had and then use a knife then a file to make it the exact size I needed. After this is done, you then mount a large, round, flat rubber gasket to the pipe. After doing this I decided to seal around it with clear silicone sealant. After doing this I let it set while I took the old system off and readied the new to go on. It was fairly straight forward after that and rather fun. It does become a bit louder when you put your foot into it, but quite enough when driving normally. There is a definite increase in horsepower as felt and there IS an increase in MPG of about 10-13%. Not a great lot but every bit helps. I do recommend this item but remember, the menu on Amazon does not always produce the correct results. I checked with K&N when I got the first one ordered and it seemed to be wrong. They gave me the correct one model number. I then went back to Amazon and put both numbers (the one I ordered as well as the one K&N said I needed) and they both came back as the correct one for my application. To Amazons credit, they did a return for me as I ordered the new one. Amazon is the BEST !!! ... show more

Excellent choice for my 2000 Toyota 4Runner 3.4 ... I was replacing the timing belt and water pump as normal maintenance with over 100,000 miles on it ... Sounds and looks great ... I haven't had the opportunity to test it pulling a trailer up the I-5 to go ATV'ng yet, but, that will be the test for the additional power ... While I was at it, I had my buddy, my mechanic, 'slap' on the Airaid 510-502 PowerAid Throttle Body Spacer ... This also should improve the performance ... ... show more

A bit above my pay grade, I'm not a Mechanic , I took my 4 Runner to my Mechanic to install the unit. Fits Great, feeling more HP and low end as well. waiting to see how my milage improves. I had to also replace my throttle positioning sensor and 02 sensors. The Idle is pretty high right now, will drive a distance today to reset the computer. ... show more

Ive had this set up for a couple of years, and without a CEL its been damaging my engine since then. I welded in a wide-band O2 sensor and found on hills or WOT i was hitting AFRs of 16 (very high) I put back on the stock unit and got immediately the right numbers. I proceeded to check for vacuum leaks but didn't find any, after some comparison to stock and to a AFe style my guess is the evap canister line is post MAF when it should be pre. so in other words it should have one of the vacuum line connections before the MAF and not after. My guess is its allowing un metered air past the MAF. (why it didn't cause a CEL light, i dunno maybe because it only happens at WOT which at that point the engine is in "Open Loop" is my guess) long story short don't get this product, aFe has one that has the correct porting and wouldn't cause a lean condition. ... show more

I bought this air cleaner kit for my son's 2001 V6 4Runner because the stock air filter lets in dust (we live on a dirt road up in the Rocky Mountains) and the extra HP would help too. We are both very good mechanics (frame up restorations, engine rebuilds) and this kit was very complete. It was an easy installation and took less than 2 hours, we could have gone considerably faster if we tried. There is a noticable induction howl when the engine is gassed hard, but nothing compared to an average diesel pick-up accelerating. ... show more

Rivet points for sensor did not align, had to cut out a good chunk to have it sit flat with no gaps. Mounting bracket came extra bent, had to bend back. Heat shield moulding came with a nice little tear on the bottom part. Besides all of this, the intake performs well. Upset at the quality, happy with the results. ... show more
