  • Easy to install, love the sound
Style: Roto-Molded
Installation: Easy to install but for the emissions hoses I did upgrade to (2) brass 5/8" barb to 1/4" NPT and added my own (4) worm gear hose clamps (get the size that goes from 0.5" to 1.25"). Really a shame that K&N is too cheap to provide these. On the 6.2L the hose coupler to the throttle body seems too large but the clamps are able to secure it in place. Install instructions are clearly written, have photos, and are easy to follow though they don't really tell you which tool to use where in the process. Function: Amazing so far. Really throaty growl from the intake when you start accelerating. I have a Borla cat-back that this intake complements well. Loud in a good way. Throttle response is noticeably better. I am not expecting massive horsepower gains but the Dyno test K&N did showed about a 14 HP gain. I recommend this if you want to improve air flow into your engine and get a nice mean sound. Worth the money to me. I got the plastic roto-molded version because the Black Hawk is slightly more restrictive material and the metal intake conducts heat vs plastic which insulates. ... show more

  • Amazing
Style: Roto-Molded
Install wasn't bad at all. Took about an hour. Throttle response is improved and when I give it a little push it sounds great!! Well worth it!!

  • very noticable sound
Style: Roto-Molded
First off, its K&N. So to me the quality is there, cause I am a K&N supporter. I have used them in the past and like their products. If you have ever installed any cold air kit, it is no harder than any other to install. Has a clean installed look. So the good is it flows more than the stock air box. It would almost have too, just by design. Also has very noticeable sound when into the throttle. Sounds good at wide open throttle.....if you like that sound. The bad news is it has a very noticeable sound...lol. If you tow or are in a hilly, mountain, area where you are into the throttle more regularly, you will be listening to it moan...…. a lot! This is just me, but it drove me crazy towing from tidewater Va. up to the western part of the state. Every long grade just got annoying. I had one on my other truck, but don't remember it being that loud inside the vehicle. So, it is cool to listen to at wide open throttle, but a long never ending moan on a long trip that is surprisingly loud in the cab is just not for me. ... show more

  • Nice job, K&N
Style: Metal Intake
This is the third intake I've tried on my 2015 Silverado 5.3L. The first one was an SLP Blackwing that was so loud, I eventually took it off. It sounded good, but just way too much for me. Next I tried the Airaid MIT which is just the tube. Nice improvement in low-end feel, and noticeable small boost in high RPM power, but little to no sound over stock. Lastly, this K&N unit which seems to be the best of the three... The tube has a chrome-ish finish and looks nice. I noticed an immediate improvement in low-end throttle response, same as with the Airaid. The tires now want to break loose when accelerating out of a corner, which was not happening with the stock box. The sound is good, pretty much non-existent during cruising, but moderate to heavy throttle produces a satisfying growl that is nowhere near as obnoxious as the SLP unit. Sounds like a truck now, and nicely complements my OEM Borla muffler system. Overall very pleased with this, I'm planning to stick with this one. Truck runs fine, no check engine lights or anything. I am not exactly sure why the SLP was so loud, but the differences are that it had a plastic tube (which is an option on the K&N as well), and also the surround for the filter element was basically a plastic tub, instead of only two-sided metal like the K&N. I must assume that the plastic pieces just produced more resonance and volume... ... show more

  • Looks Good and easy install
Style: Dry Flow Filter
Dont expect much of a difference other than I can hear the difference from under the hood and the truck seems to run a bit smoother. But Im ok with that, i wasnt expecting a major difference.

  • Very nice intake, not exactly as advertised in the photos
Style: Black Hawk
Let me start off by saying that this is a very nice looking intake. Love the sleek black look, a bit more subtle than the spicy chrome version but enough to be something to step back and nod your head looking at it. When you get on the gas in gives you a nice growl. Not sure of the performance or mileage gains, but in my opinion it’s okay to admit that we like the way they look and sound, and I know for sure the performance has to be AT LEAST marginally better because we know that it’s breathing better. Only argument one could have is that the factory air box does indeed force the air to come from the inside of the fender well with a gasket that connects that cavity to the box. Once you install one of these, one could hope that it’s still pulling most of the air from that cavity, but it’s obvious that it will now also be pulling at least slightly more warm air from the engine bay. I would venture to guess that once you allow the engine to breathe better, then it will also benefit more from a tube than it would had it had a stock setup. Now for my two gripes. 1.) This Blackhawk was advertised as having this really nice polished aluminum badge welded onto the tube. This looked very clean and in my mind fit perfectly for what I had in mind for this truck. When a guy loves his truck and every detail matters, and you receive an intake with a fancy metal sticker instead of the welded aluminum badge you saw in the photos when you placed your order it’s a little upsetting. I probably would have bought it anyway, but spending good money and receiving something that isn’t EXACTLY what you were lead to believe it is is a huge pet peeve of mine. 2.) This unit is sold as not having any CARB OE exemptions and will not allow you to ship this to California. Having done my research there is indeed a CARB EO for this intake to be used in a 2015 Silverado 5.3. I assumed that since they were not allowing you to ship this to California that it would not come with a CARB OE sticker. I went through jumping through all of the hoops to ship to a friend out of state to have it shipped to me, and filed for a replacement sticker only to find out upon receiving it that there is a CARB OE decal included in the kit. Great product, but the seller should replace the photos in the listing with the photos of the item you will actually be receiving, and allow this to be shipped to California since there is literally a CARB OE decal included in the kit. Hopefully this helps somebody. ... show more
