I decided to try this because salons are expensive and, frankly, 2 hrs of chitchat with a complete stranger is torture. I am in my 40's with medium length black hair. At first I tried only doing my roots where most of the grey is, but the color difference was very noticeable so I wound up needing to do all my hair. It took about 45 minutes total. I put down a towel over the sink (as a staging area for my supplies) and a towel on the floor to stand on and then a rolled hand towel around my neck. The kit comes with a tube and gloves and a small comb that attaches to the tube. I didn't use the comb that came with it because it's too small for ladies hair. So, what I wound up doing was slathering a line of dye on one of my old combs then very carefully combing that through my hair. I only parted my hair in 2 sections and it was pretty easy to cover it all. It took a tube and a half to do all my hair. I didn't do any massaging into the scalp, just a comb. Then when I was done, I rinsed and shampooed in the mud room sink and threw all the towels and my clothes in the washer. It worked great with basically no mess. The only reason I took off a star is the color. Like everyone else is saying, it's a very shiny jet black. I had to wear my hair in a ponytail for 2 days because it was too obviously dyed. Luckily it faded to a more normal color after a week (or 3 shampoos). I'm not sure I will stick with this color next time, but the instructions are really good and buying this gave me the confidence I need to start dyeing my hair on my own. I would recommend going with two shades, lighter or use the Touch of Grey. You can always go darker, but you can’t go lighter. It’s cheap enough to ease in to your color. If I could do it again, I would use a Touch of Grey instead, since it will be more natural. You can expect your hair to be one color verses variations unless you wash it out at 5 minutes instead of ten. ... show more

Well, I am bald and I only wear a goatee on my face. That is now grey/white. I thought I would try to darken it up a bit but on two attempts to achieve black, it came out blue.     • Quick and Easy, but Color Doesn't Last Long

I recently tried it and was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to use. The fact that it only requires 10 minutes before washing is a huge plus, as I don't have a lot of time to dedicate to hair care. However, the trade-off for this convenience is that the color doesn't seem to last very long. I found myself having to touch up the color every week or so to maintain the desired shade. One aspect of the product that I was disappointed with was the included brush. While it certainly made the application process easier, I found that using my hand with a glove gave me more control and resulted in a more even coverage. Overall, while I appreciate the convenience of this product, I think the color could be more long-lasting and the brush could be improved. ... show more
