This is a replacement for my J5 which I had for 8 years. I put off upgrading my machine because I didn't want to deal with the milk feed system, the cleaning hassle and I was sure nothing could beat my hand made foam. The Z6 has proved me wrong on all concerns. The milk feed system is easy to work and the glass carafe fits my needs perfectly. The glass carafe is easy to clean and the milk feed system is even easier to clean thanks to the Z6 built in milk cleaning system. And here's the biggest surprise...the milk foam is wonderful and I'm grateful not to have to do my own foaming anymore. I was also surprised at the number of different coffee types it makes and how easy it was to move my favorite (Flat White) to the front display. One "feature" irritated me and they don't tell you this in any of the manuals. The Clearyl "smart" water filter has a hidden RFI tag in it. I think the purpose is to keep one from "accidentally" reinstalling a used filter. You don't need the filter if you only use soft water. In my case, I use software 100% of the time. Except, 10% of the time my wife forgets and uses hard water. To be safe, I installed the Clearyl filter. On average, we drink 4 Flat White cups total a day. I've had the machine for less than 3 weeks and it already said it's time to replace the filter. . I felt I could go another 3 weeks with this filter because only a little hard water had been run through the filter. The display continuously nags you to replace the filter. I decided to go through the steps on the screen to replace the filter but instead just reinstall the same filter. That's when I discovered the RFI tag feature that wouldn't let me reuse a filter. My options are to install a new filter, reprogram the machine to soft water only, or put up with the nag message on the display. The filters cost over $13 each. If I have to replace it every 3 weeks that will cost $225 a year. Customers who use only hard water be for warned ! I can't help but wonder if Jura put RFI tags in the filters to protect customers or protect profits.

The Jura Z6 is one Jura's top of the line machines and in fact seems to the high end one to get if you want Jura's latest technology such as P.E.P. Pros: * Very nice style. Jura seems to break away from the design that other manufactures use and instead hides the components behind a sleek and stylish design. * The Jura Z6 makes excellent Espresso and European coffee. * The drink menu system is excellent and the color display is wonderful. * The milk cleaning system is superior to the past Jura lines but could still be greatly improved to what other manufactures provide such as the Gaggia Babila. * Huge water tank. This is a very nice benefit and we did not realize how much water is truly used in the day to day use of the machine. Water tank can be pulled from the front of the machine so you could put the machine next to the wall without any issues. * The front of the machine uses metal instead of plastic like most of the other Jura machines. * Coffee spout unit can be raise quite high and it's nice to have only the single unit instead of multiple units like other machines as it gives the Jura a very clean look. Cons: * Milk system has serious engineering flaw and will not get hotter then 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Read below for details. * Milk system use a tube to container system. You will need to at least rinse the tube under the tap before going through the two minute long cleaning procedure that uses a separate cleaning container. The whole milk system is not as efficient and ease of use compared to other manufactures such as Gaggia and DeLonghi. The milk cleaning system also requires you use use Jura's milk cleaning solution every time which will increase the cost of using the machine for milk based drinks. * The brewing unit is not removable. This could greatly add to cost to the service the machine if there is a problem. * There is no setting for pre-wetting the coffee that exists on other brands of super-automatics espresso machines. * The sides and back are plastic. You would expect a machine costing this much would be metal on all four sides. * The power button and the single serve pre-ground coffee intake should be at the front of the machine instead at the very back. * The Jura customer support manager and at least one of their staff are rude and less then helpful. Details: My husband has been wanting a super-automatic for a couple of years. He has been making espresso every morning using my Gaggia Classic semi-automatic for about ten years (and it is still going strong after owning it for over 20 years) and was wanting the convenience of a one touch super automatic. Originally my husband wanted a Gaggia Babila after all of his research a few months ago, but I find it ugly along with just about every other super automatic espresso machine. I had him look again and because of a sale on Amazon for the Jura Z6 we decided we would give that a try. I was very hesitant to buy such an expensive machine online and we found it locally at Williams Sonoma and since they price matched Amazon we picked it up on December 23rd, 2017. After getting it set up and tuning the preferences for the excellent Lavazza Super Crema coffee and I had the best European coffee I have ever had. My husband also very much like the espresso it made. Then he tried to make me a flat white drink with skim milk. It was too cold and it needed to be heated up in the microwave. This is when we encountered the issue with this machine and why it only gets one star. The Jura Z6 has a fundamental engineering design issue in the milk system. Even setting the milk temperature to level 10 (5 is default) in the settings would not produce a hotter milk drink. My husband used a meat thermometer and a infrared thermometer and the milk would not get hotter then 100 degrees (98 was average) and he even monitoring the temperature of the milk stream before it even hit the cup. Thinking there must be a problem with the unit we contacted Jura support when they opened on December 27th. The support person my husband talked to said the machine should not be doing that it should be sent in for service or returned locally. My husband packed up the machine and we called a different Williams Sonoma store and they had another unit there. They where more then happy to exchange the Z6 with another one. We were back home by noon and we unboxed the new unit and directly tested the milk system with the exact same result as the previous unit. My husband packed it up and immediately took to back to Williams Sonoma. When he got there, he found that they had the previous unit unpacked and were just about to start testing the milk system. Since they were unfamiliar with the unit, my husband demonstrated how to use the milk system to just pull a hot milk, to find out there is nothing hot (try tepid) about the milk it produces. The staff was incredulous that such an expensive and well known brand such as Jura would produce such awful milk. So my husband asked me to order a Z6 from Amazon thinking that perhaps Williams Sonoma had gotten a bad batch of machines. I talked with Amazon and told them about the problems of the locally bought machines and they said to go ahead and order it from Amazon and try it out. The unit arrived from Amazon on the late afternoon of January 3rd, 2018. My husband unpacked the unit and noted that it seemed to be a newer model then the previous ones as it came with a couple of each items in the Jura bag. He tested the milk temperature and the same problem existed. He called Jura support and they mentioned they would have a manager call him in the morning. After talking with Jura he googled a bit and found a lot more stories about the milk not getting hot enough on Jura machines. The band-aid recommendation was to either pinch the tube a bit or find something to plug the hole to slow the the flow of milk to allow the milk to stay in the heating element longer. He took a plastic stirring straw, folded it in half and put it in the milk pickup tube. Low and behold, hot milk at 155 degrees. Since this lacked any kind adjustment, my husband went to Home Depot and picked up some #10 rubber caps that are used to cover the end of a screw. He made several caps with different sized holes by drilling the caps. We found a size that worked well that allowed the milk to get hot enough in the machine. There is a very fine line in size that it needs to be in order to pull up enough milk for it to work properly and the hole is much smaller then the intake of the tube. Late the next morning my husband called Jura as they had not called him back. The Jura support person was short with him and rude and said nothing was wrong with the machine. Even though my husband tried to explain there was an engineering design problem with all current shipping machines he refused to hear about it. The support person offered to have unit sent in to be tested but my husband refused as they could just pull any shipping Z6 off the line and it should have the same problem. He asked if he could speak with an manager and a manger called us back about an hour later. The manager was even ruder then first person. Nothing is wrong with the shipping units he says. Requests to talk with an engineer are refused. Because of how rude and uncooperative the manager was, my husband no longer wanted anything to do with Jura. Machine was immediately packed up and returned to Amazon. All trying 3 Z6s, all failed to heat the milk to the proper temperature. We should not be required to microwave each drink produced. We were hoping to select hot milk to make hot cocoa or chai tea, but barely warm milk will have to be microwaved. Too bad, I love the look of the machine, but will certainly not recommend it to anyone. So the bottom line is, if you want milk based drinks, look elsewhere. If you just want espresso or coffee drinks, the machine will serve you well. My husband still wants a super-automatic so the Gaggia Babila is on order from Amazon. Edit: We ended up getting the Saeco GrandBaristo Avanti a week after the review and have had it now for three months. Husband could not be happier and the design style is acceptable to me. Very hot milk directly from the fridge. 10 second milk cleanup instead of two minutes. Husband says the espresso is even better in the Saeco and it passes his plastic stir stick test where he places the plastic stir stick (thin straw) in the espresso and can tilt the straw at and angle and it stays there without him touching it. So thick rich espresso just like what he made from the Gaggia Classic.
