    • This is the hands free speaker I needed all along
Here in my State it's now illegal to hold a phone while driving. It's OK to hold a cup of coffee, shave, apply makeup, read a book, talk to others in the car with your hands while driving, but to hold a phone is now a misdemeanor. WHATEVER! OK, end of political statement... I continue now with the review. I've tried several different hands free options for my cell phone since the law was passed. First I tried using the speaker-phone option on the cell phone itself along with the phones voice dialing cabpability and a belt clip to hold it on the visor. This kind of worked, but the phones volume was insufficient and I had to yell at it to make myself heard over road noise at the other end. Next I tried a bluetooth ear piece I picked up from Verizon. It worked OK if I remembered to charge it and take it with me when I went somewhere. Often I'd forget though. I wear glasses and I kept knocking the ear piece out with them. The ear piece was always falling out, or was in the way, and after a couple of hours waring it, it became uncomfortable in my ear. So I started leaving it home most of the time. Then, my wife bought a new car with built-in bluetooth that worked so well I fell in love with it. But it was her car and my truck didn't have these new modern niceties. Last, I tried buying a bluetooth speaker device from Amazon made my Motorola. The Motorola speaker was to put it nicely, a piece of junk. It would only pair to my Motorola cell phone when it wanted to not when I needed it to, it would not allow access to the phone's voice dialing features, and went back to Amazon within days. I'd almost given up when one of the Amazon suggestions came up with this Jabra DRIVE as a suggestion for something I might be interested in. I thought, "what the heck, I'll try one more device before I give up"! I'm SO glad that I did. This speaker is the bluetooth device I was looking for. It's priced lower than some of the others I've seen, that's a plus. It paired to my old Motorola KRAZR phone on the first try. And best of all it just works. It accesses all of the phone features with no muss or fuss. It's loud enough to be heard in the truck. It's mic. cancels road noise like it should and I'm easily understood on the other end. Battery life is long enough to last all day, at least so far. Controls are very simple. An on-off switch on the side,a large volume rocker avove the speaker grill, and a hidden call/answer push button behind the grill are the extent of it. There are no difficult to find controls, you don't have to search all over the device while driving to make or anser a call. Just turn on the Jabra when you get in and provided you phone has its bluetooth powered on, Jabra says "conected" and you are ready to go. When you get a call Jabra DRIVE answers automatically fo you with nothing to push. Just talk. To make a call, press the phone icon on the speaker and you are connected to your phones voice functions. Assuming you already know how to use the features of voice commands on your phone there is nothing else to do or learn. To hang up, press that phone icon again and you're done. I LOVE THIS SPEAKER PHONE! I only have one suggestion for Jabra. The 12v USB charger for the car is great, but it would be nice if you included a 110v house charger as well. It was no big deal for me since the charger for my now retired ear piece worked nicely, it was a Jabra too. But others might like a home charger. Like me they may want to charge it in the house at night since some vehicles power off the 12v port when the key is turned off. ... show more

    • Works well, simple to use, but "Sleep mode" is lacking
I got the Jabra Drive for my wife's car and since she has zero tolerance for anything that takes more than 30 seconds to learn how to use, I specifically chose this model based on it being marketed as simple to use. In that regard, it does live up to it's billing. However ... The marketing collateral says "...it will connect automatically whenever you get into the car" and this is just not true. Once I read the actual user guide, which by the way - has to be downloaded from the Jabra site - it makes it pretty clear how it actually works. What the Jabra Drive will do is go into "Sleep mode" when the phones it is connected to go out of Bluetooth range (~50 feet). Then if one of the phones comes back into range within 10 minutes it will automatically connect and go back into "Standby mode" and you are good to make and receive calls. Otherwise, the Jabra Drive will automatically shut off to save battery life. To reconnect, you have to slide the itty-bitty on-off switch to off and then back on again, at which point it will confirm you are connected by saying so. So the point is that "...it will connect automatically whenever you get into the car" only applies if you get back into the car within 10 minutes from when you left. Good to know ... That all said; it will connect to two phones simultaneously which is a pretty handy feature in that both my wife and daughter can use the unit together or separately without me needing to reconfigure anything, which is a blessing. Also, pairing was very easy - probably the easiest I've experienced with all the various Bluetooth products I've used. So my recommendation to anyone looking to purchase the Jabra Drive is to understand the caveat regarding Sleep mode and as long as that's not a show stopper for you - the product pretty much works as advertised. Note to Jabra: I suggest once the device goes into sleep mode it could be "awakened" by pressing the "Answer/end" button instead which would be much SIMPLER for the user instead of toggling the itty-bitty on-off switch.     • Terrible speaker sound quality
The Jabra Drive I received works as advertised but the sound quality from the internal speaker is so poor it's hard to understand the person you are talking too. Guess I will go back to my old Jabra Freeway which has great sound.
