After having tried several dash mount phone holders, not liking the cup mount because I wanted my phone at eye level, I purchased this. I was happy that this product gave me the height I wanted and it easily is installed into your CD player. My only complaint is that it was hard to stabilize because my car has a volume dial underneath that it hits. Once I was able to get the stabilizer far enough down, it has stayed in place. I have experienced the magnet not always holding the phone securely enough but that has been when the roads were bumpy. Overall this product has worked for me and if there were improvements made that would allow a better fit in my car, I would even purchase the updated model. ... show more

Like many cars, mine has a modern, Bluetooth-capable receiver that happens to also have a CD slot. Since I only play music from my phone, not from CDs, and the CD slot is almost at eye-level in the center of my dash, this makes it perfect for using this magnetic mount. All you need to do is attach a small adhesive magnetic plate to the back of your phone (or its case) and rest it on this magnetic holder. The force of the magnet and the rubberized ring surrounding it holds the phone in place through all the bumps and jolts of your drive, with your music app or map directions right where you need them.     • Magnet Awesome but Forget about Wireless Charging

This is exactly what I was looking for, a minimalistic phone mount for my phone. Keep in mind that if you own an iPhone, the magnets on the back won’t be enough to hold your phone due to the pattern the magnets are arranged, allow me to elaborate: In your iPhone the magnets are arranged in a circular shape, but the mount’s magnets are arranged in a very small oval-like rectangle, so they barely overlap, leading to very poor strength, which won’t hold your iPhone. This problem is solved by adding the metal plate they send you with the mount BUT that plate will prevent your iPhone from wirelessly charging. Now it’s a matter of how often you wirelessly charge your phone and if you’re willing to do the trade off. Hope this helps. ... show more

Works great! There’s a small piece of plastic that came with, I didn’t use it but it seems to work fine without it. This was perfect because I have the deep round vents and the other vent phone holders wouldn’t work. Also doesn’t get in the way of the other controls in the car.

I purchased this used in order to reduce waste and save a little money. However, when it came a critical component was missing- the magnet that sticks to the phone! Lucky for Amazon, I purchased this unit for a second car, and my husband has declined to use this holder, so I don’t actually need the magnet for it since I already have one on my phone. I will say this holder itself works great in the CD slot of the first car (Prius) (hence the second purchase) but does not fit as tightly in the second car (Highlander). I think it will work just fine, but I do wonder how long it will hold up in the Highlander (we do live on a bumpy gravel road…). ... show more

    • Bigger than version 1 but holds stronger

I owned the previous version of this mount and I can definitely say its different, the magnet feels stronger because of the wider base. The only downside is that the mechanism to 'lock' it onto the vent is different, it consists of a twist ring that if your vent fins are to close together and at an angle will get in the way when trying to screw it down tight. At the time you feel this is going to break the vent fins but if you don't force the prongs onto the fins when inserting/removing it, then you should be fine. Just make sure the screw is unlocked fully. Personally I prefer version 1 way of mounting, where you had a button to press down on that would open up the prongs and then clamp down when let go, was easier for when you were re-adjusting it. Some tips I have found for when mounting this is in my 2013 Camry using my Pixel 3a, is to angle the head of the magnet up. The magnet is heavier than the version 1 and will tilt the vents down. If you keep it straight and place the phone on it, the phone is more prone to falling off as any jerks cause the phone to come in contact with the dash and push its self off the mount. But if you angle the mount upwards so that no part of the edge of the phone is resting on the dash, so that the magnetic mount comes in contact with the dash/air vents before anything else, then it does not fall off. Also, a useful tip is to use double-sided sticky tape and not the pre-applied adhesive that comes with the metal plates if you are putting it inside the case. The tape is not as strong as the adhesive so if you have to re-position the plate such as wanting the phone to be higher or lower or more to the left or right when in landscape, it is ALOT easier since the pre-applied adhesive is really strong. ... show more
