  • Great for non permanent wheelchair
I purchased this wheelchair due to foot surgery after which I would be non-weightbearing on one foot for 6-8 weeks. I use a roller walker for tooling around the house, but wanted a chair for longer excursions or for going out. This fit my bill, and was great for the price. The chair was delivered promptly and in great condition, and it came in two boxes, the chair in one box and the leg rests in the other. Altho it isn't pictured this way, the leg rests came with the calf supports which were important to me, as I initially needed to keep my foot elevated at all times. If I am in the house with the chair, I take off the foot rests, hold my casted foot up and steer and push myself with my good foot. This allows me to use my hands to carry things and it makes the chair much smaller, allowing me access to places I would have more difficulty getting into with the feet rests on. I got the 20 inch wide seat. I could have used the smaller one, but felt the extra inches would be more comfortable. I was glad I did. It was still narrow enough to go thru our doors, and it was a little more comfy. I can stick a bag or small item between my leg and the side to carry. However, the width you get is a tradeoff. (Remember that if 2 sizes will work, you trade off comfort of the extra size with the ability to get into smaller places, tighter corners etc.) Also, remember that you need to add the width of your hands next to the wheels when judging how much space you need to get into a room.. This is not an all terrain chair. It is significantly more difficult to push yourself on asphalt than on a floor. The front wheels do get stuck in gravel or uneven ground. The arms are designed so you can get under a table and they also come off if you need them to, and the legs rests come off easily, which facilitates getting the chair in and out of the car, and also for getting into tighter corners. The brakes hold tight. I was quite pleased with this chair for my use. It is sturdy and for the price it was a great buy. I am not sure if this would be the BEST chair for a permanent all-time use, but for recuperating after surgery, or as a chair to take Mom to the mall, it is fine. ... show more

  • It really IS too good to be true!
Like others have said this is "too good to be true"! As a sufferer of gout, sometimes it becomes too painful to walk. This year, an infection in my right foot caused a gout attack on my left, leaving me bedridden for a whole month. I was making multiple trips to the doctors to get things diagnosed and checked and crutches did not make the pain or the trip any easier! Once the pain was unbearable on both feet, I decided to go out and purchase a wheelchair to use instead, as well as to have if a similar issue ever occurs in the future. Since I have never thought of or purchased a wheelchair before, I was relying solely on the information given in the description and reviews. After much searching, this seemed to be the best. I was a bit skeptical at first since the price was so low! Other wheelchairs similarly priced always had some issue that made them not ideal. They would be too small, don't come with feet rests or the feet rests weren't height adjustable, the wheels and other parts were made with cheap materials. This was the only one with high reviews as well as good mentions on all these areas! The final thing that sold me was when I tried looking at wheelchair rentals instead. The local places that rented out wheelchairs used these ones! When it finally arrived, right out of the box I could feel the quality. Unfolding it was easy and noticed right away how sturdy it was. However, it was NOT heavy and hard to move around! Surprisingly light for a good quality wheelchair. The best part is how roomy the seat is, but the wheelchair as whole wasn't as big. I was scared getting a bigger seat like 20" would make it difficult to go through the narrow corridors of our old house, but the wheels didn't add much width and was able to get around fine. I used it for my final trip to the doctor (before I was able to walk again) and it was the most pleasant experience I could get from a hospital visit. Lastly, I read in other reviews that sitting in the seat for a prolonged time could get uncomfortable, but I was in the waiting room for a few hours and it wasn't at all bad. I don't usually have problems sitting in the same seat for prolonged periods unless its a hard seat like wood or plastic. So if you are like the others, I would just suggest getting a seat cushion to solve this small issue. There is nothing else I could think of and this wheelchair is too good of a deal to pass up! ... show more

  • Changing weights and rising prices
This is an excellent wheelchair and a good value; especially when you consider that even many "good" insurance plans will not pay for wheelchairs or their rentals. At one point we were quoted a price of $100 a day to rent a wheelchair. The price of the chairs seems to also be rising by at least $10 every 6 months. The question comes in the weight quotes, since I have looked many times into purchasing a wheelchair. Finally with a broken ankle after many other injuries and also having an aging mother we purchased this chair. The weights have been quoted differently at various times. At one point the 18" chair was listed at 11 pounds heavier than this. It makes one wonder where the true facts are. This is not a lightweight chair. It is an effort for us to lift this up into the car. I am not sure how an injured or older person would be able to do it by themselves. The chair is sturdy and slightly padded and comfortable to sit in. The total width really needs to be given, instead of just the seat width. This does not fit through all the doors in my house. The other caution is that it does not have any bar or anything that someone pushing the chair can `step' on to tilt the chair a up a bit to maneuverer over curbs and thresholds. In order to accomplish this, the person pushing has to lean down, heavily on the handles to get the chair up or do the rather jolting maneuver of pushing the wheels up over the higher obstacle - making an uncomfortable ride. What is really sturdy in the construction of this chair as opposed to the really light weight chairs are the foot rests which come in handy when one has heavy casts or just wants a secure place to rest one's feet. The foot rests come off and on easily (for a helper) in order to transport or lift up the chair. In total this is a good buy as long as one knows the drawbacks. ... show more

  • Terrific for the price!
Talk about FAST delivery, I ordered this on the 6th and received it on the 8th. The chair came in one very large box and the footrests came in a medium-sized box. They were delivered at the same time. The boxes were in great condition. The delivery person rang the bell and left before I could open the door. I'm glad I was home so the packages didn't sit outside all day. Upon removing the items from the boxes, the wheelchair and footrests were found to be in perfect condition. The wheelchair was exactly as described in the ad. The footrests were a teeny bit fussy about locking into place. But they did lock. I wanted to make sure they were fine before we used the chair, so I talked with a representative at Invacare. The call to Invacare was speedy and the rep. was courteous, knowledgeable, and friendly. I purchased this product for taking Mom shopping, sightseeing on vacations, going to parks and festivals - times when walking long distances or periods of time are necessary. Having rented wheelchairs, including Invacare, before this purchase, I knew we would be happy with the one of their 20-inch models since she appreciated the bit of extra room to shift positions and to keep her purse. This chair feels easy to move and store. Haven't used it yet since we just received it, but I know that we will like this one as much as the rentals :). ON EDIT - Sept. 16, 2010. I used this chair on a couple of outings now - once pushing my mother (reason I bought this chair) in a park on an asphalt path and once in an indoor shopping mall. During these short jaunts I found myself tiring while pushing the chair, something I hadn't felt when using rental chairs. I'm solidly built and the lady I was pushing is 170 pounds - well under the 250 lb rating of the chair. One day my mother and I stopped by a store and I decided to use their wheelchair. It turned out to be the same model as ours, the Tracer EX2. It provided me a chance to see if it was easier to push than mine. It turned out to be the same experience. Like I stated in my earlier review, I have rented wheelchairs in the past and liked them. One of my favorites was an Invacare, and I thought it was the same model as this one, but now I don't think it was this model after all. So while I'm happy to have this wheelchair on hand for infrequent usage, I think I'll continue to rent heavier-duty chairs for vacations where lots of movement is required at destinations and sightseeing. If/when the day comes that my mother becomes wheelchair bound, I'll likely purchase a heavier-duty wheelchair or a rental model or ???...something that moves easier. ... show more

  • Invacare LightWeight Tracer EX2 Wheelchair 20" with Swingaway Footrest
This chair was delivered promptly and in good condition. It was easy to assemble (foot rests and some trivial parts). Having no prior personal experience with wheelechairs, I bought this one for my mother-in-law, after having done some cursory research online and in town, for her use during her extended stay. We've now had it for about 5 1/2 months. While it's not the absolute lightest, portable-ist, high-end-ist chair, we have found that it is most satisfactory. And at the price (we paid about $132 at Amazon) it was a great value. Note that this chair does not have flip-up arms, so if 20" is not wide enough or you need to load/unload from the side, I would not recommend this chair for you. My mom-in-law doesn't use it full-time. Rather, we use it for her when we take her for day trips to the Galveston Seawall or other sightseeing, so she doesn't have to walk so much. Since I have some back problems, I sometimes share it with her, so I have used it a little myself. It's reasonably comfortable, though I can't speak to how it would feel as a full-time chair. The 20" width was a smart way to go. It fits me as well as mom-in-law (I'm a 40" waist), and for mom it allows space to carry a bag on the side.It is actually more spacisous than current airplane coach seats. About 10 lbs. lighter would be nice, but would be an unreasonable expectation at this price. I can manage loading/unloading it alone if I have to, but a second person helping is really nice. We usually transport it in my minivan, but we have also managed to tranport it in my wife's Mazda3 (with the back seats folded down). It is not hard to fold or unfold. The rear wheel locks work well. It's easy to push with moderate effort. I've used it on hilly sidewalks and on grass and dry ground. Some folks suggest the 'transport' chairs because they're lighter for transport, but I suspect that the big rear wheels of this chair make it easier going on rougher pavement or ground. For needs similar to ours, I would certainly recommend this chair. PS: It probably fits well in some car trunks if there is pretty much nothing else in the trunk. Also, we have learned that taxi cabs DO NOT like to pick up wheel chairs. If you expect to need a cab with this (or likely any other) chair, you will need to find a Taxi minivan or similar vehicle 'on the fly', whichi can be a challenge. I suggest that if you expect to have the need, have a taxi company phone number with you so that a suitable vehicle can be dispatched to you. ... show more

  • Great product from Amazon!
My wife is mobility limited from an illness, uses a walker, but presently needs a wheelchair for shopping in large stores, or on recreational walks on paved surfaces. Since her mobility problems may not be permanent, I didn't want to spend a fortune on a chair right now. I was very pleased with the quality of this chair for the price. It appears to be well built, it's a nice dark blue color and attractive looking, lightweight, folds easily and the footrests remove easily for stowing it in a vehicle. It's exactly what we needed for our purposes and a great value for the price. Depending on how you will use it, note the following: The armrests are stationary and do not fold down. We bought the 20" model, it's roomy, but wide for doorways in older homes. Before purchasing, check the total width of the chair from outer wheel to outer wheel, and your doorway widths, if you need to use it indoors. My wife noted if she used it for long periods, she would want to get a rigid cushion to place on top of the folding seat for comfort. If these aren't problems for you, then I'd recommend this product! ... show more

  • MISLEADING DESCRIPTION
This Wheelchair is not "lightweight". It will hurt your back, or give you a hernia if you try to lift it in and out of your vehicle. I bought this wheelchair from Medical Department Stores and requested return because it was not lightweight but they refused. I filed an A thru Z Guarantee thru Amazon and won my case. Amazon forced Medical Department Stores to accept my return. The chair was shipped from Ohio by Fedex to my house, but when MDS sent me a 'return authorization' they said I had to ship it to Florida at my own expense which was $80.00. So I called MDS and asked them if they could give me a break because I was a Gulf War Veteran with 100% Disability. The doctor told me I have 3 - 5 years to live. Medical Department Stores told me they were sorry but there was nothing that they could do for me. . I am glad that most people and business's I deal with honor us service men and appreciate all that we have given to our country. But unfortunately some are only concerned about profiting at our expense. • Worth it....don't be worried, it is a real wheelchair, and a great value if you cannot get through insurance
After hearing about $2000 for a wheelchair, at least that is what Medicare gets billed for one, I was very concerned about what we'd get. Due to an illness, expected to be temporary, I wanted to get one of these for short term use. Rentals were beat up and cost $100/month, and I expected that for what I'd spend on a rental, I might as well just purchase one, and hold onto it, just in case I ever needed it. It arrived in a big box, was fully assembled, but was missing the leg rests. I contacted the seller and they are in the process of sending out the leg rests. That aside, the color is different from what is shown - it has silver/black painted frame, and black seat/back. It isn't blue. If you were hoping for blue, it is no longer made with that color, per the seller. Anyway, it isn't the lightest (35lbs or so), and it isn't able to do more than a max weight of 250lbs, but to be honest, this is fine. I've seen this brand, Invacare, at hospitals, doctors offices, etc. So I was familiar with the name, just not sure why it was so inexpensive. I've used it today and it saved the day. It was sturdy, rolls with ease, and can fold up and put in the back of a smaller car without too much hassle. Like I said, it isn't the lightest, but I'm a big boy and can handle it. If the person who needs it has to do this themselves, I'd look for something lighter. So, if you are looking for an inexpensive wheelchair, go for it. It is not a disappointment and frankly I'm wondering how the seemingly same wheelchair can cost so much more when using insurance? ... show more
