  • Terrible fittings
I have the 4 of them in series to warm up the pool, have them all installed on top of my shed. Literally every single fitting leaks. If you decide to tighten things up with stainless hose clamps, then other fittings blow off. The mats themselves are okay, but everything else included is basically trash. Set aside $100 for fittings or, better yet, don't buy these at all. ... show more

  • They really work!
I was skeptical but these things really work! Here in Denver, every degree counts and these solar heaters easily increase the pool temp by 7 to 10 degrees. Noticeably different from last summer.

  • May need to rethink Solar heating
These mats are fairly big. So to be effective, you need a lot of these mats and a big backyard space to lay them out. In SoCal, we get a lot of sun but our pool stays cold. Subsequently, the water is only tolerable in Aug and Sep... just two months per year. I rigged these mats with a solar fountain pump and the water coming out of the mat is about 20 degree warmer than the pool. However, the pool only gained about 10 degree more... not really warm enough to jump in. Swimmers still need to crawl in slowly and get used to the water. I bought four but only have room for two where the sun shines. The solar pump i used is rated at 398 gph and doesn't put out a lot of pressure to cause leaks; however, a slower pump may help to give the water time to warm up flowing in the mats. Besides the wife doesn't like how the mats look around the pool. I also tried some smartshield padding and a pallet to raise the mats off the cold concrete but that didn't seem to help. In conclusion, I have had these mats all summer long but they didn't work for us. The mats themselves are very good and a solid product but may not warm your pool if you don't have enough of them or your backyard space is limited (where the wife can't see them). ... show more

  • They work but did need help
I originally installed these as suggested, 4 in series fed through an Intex 1000 gph pool pump. The result was barely a trickle of water coming out. Yes it was warm but the pump did not sound happy. Running it for 2 days showed minimal temperature rise. The first 2 mats were crumpled up, only the 4th was not bunched. So I split the mats into 2 groups to lower pressure and ended up putting them on their own pump as the pressure still was not that high. End result now is they do heat the water and since all 4 are crumpled the pressure must be equal. We ran it all day yesterday and brought the temperature up to almost 85 degrees. It's 74 outside now and was 67 last night. The temperature in the pool cooled down overnight to 82 degrees. Now it is slightly over 86 so it is doing a little over 1 degree an hour. I did have the connections blowing apart. You need to look for the faint ridge in the black hose and place your clamp over it. After that they have been holding . And I needed to jiggle 2 of the bypasses to stop them from leaking out the tops. They are installed on a small deck because our grass sends runners everywhere and will punch through plastic. Had a time with the pool before I placed the 2 1/2 foot border around it. ... show more

  • Not up to par
These solar heaters do not hold up from the very first pumping cycle. We exchanged the first one, then the second one split also. They are terrible. I’ll never buy another one

  • Horrible
Bought 6, within a week 2 have sprung leaks. A you of water gets lost when it happens when you are not around. Do they warm, yes... but lasting a week is horrible. Disconnecting others and buying a different setup.

  • Leaky Connections. Poor Design.
Poor design of the connections. Connections leak. The fittings have an O-ring that does not fit-up with the hose correctly. The O-ring needs to be further back to allow the clamp to work correctly. Plastic clamps do not tighten-up enough to withstand the pressure from the pump. Hoses blow off. Needed to replace plastic clamps with stainless steel ones. Not worth the money spent. ... show more

  • Pool turned into a hot tub
These things really do the job! We actually had to turn them off when our pool was like very warm bath water on the 2nd day. Now we run just one solar mat and it keeps the pool at a comfortable temperature. Yes, there are issues with the fittings. We replaced the o-rings and haven’t had a leak since. ... show more
