I moved into a new rental house that didn't have a pool in the back yard but did have a relatively flat and large back yard. I got this above ground pool system since I'm going to be here for at least one summer so I could go swimming in the back yard. I just set it up and filled it with water now that Dallas weather is up in the 70s (yes I know it's February but since we had our one winter storm of the year, I'm assuming there won't be another winter storm in the area). Assembly really takes a couple of people. I found the most level spot in the back yard and placed the ground cloth included in the kit. Interestingly, the ground cloth is square but the pool is round. It would have been nicer if the ground cloth were also round to match the pool. The galvanized steel frame feels really sturdy and heavy duty. The PVC liner is very heavy duty. I have a couple of Dalmatians that have pretty long front claws. They have used the side walls of the pool to do their "stand up stretch" where they basically push their front paws against the side walls and no punctures, no scratch marks, and no damage. I ended up using some pool filter balls rather than sand in the filter and those seem to work well so far after a couple of weeks. I figured it was easier to try out the pool filter balls first and if I didn't like the way they performed, it would be easier to replace the balls with sand than the other way around (e.g. 3 lbs of filter balls vs. 100 lbs of sand granules). Pump seems to do a good job moving water from the pool to the filter and then pushing it back into the pool. The kit comes with a ladder, which I found to be kind of cheap frankly and I may look for an alternative this spring when pool use starts increasing. The cover fit perfectly and works great at keeping out leaves. You will need to get a floating chlorinator as that is not included in the kit. And if you want the interior to be lit, you can get floating battery operated rechargable lights as well, as lighting is not included.

I am so excited for this upgraded version of the INTEX pool we purchased over five years ago. If you have ever dealt with one of their pools you know they are fairly easy to set up and they last several years with minimal maintenance. Our old pool was the step down from this style and it was in good shape for five summers. We could have used it again this year but it did have a couple of slow leaks and when I saw this version available I immediately grabbed it. This new and upgraded style is far superior! One person could set this up by themselves in less than an hour as long as your site was prepped and you're familiar with the process. If you follow the instructions, two people can do this for the first time so easily. The frame poles are very smooth and sturdy and the (vinyl?) material is so thick and durable. This boxed set comes with everything you need to have the kids ready for spring break fun in the sun! The sand pump is great quality, durable and effective at filtering the water. The sand rarely needs to be changed (lasts for years) and the water turnover rate helps keep everything clean and clear with the right amount of whatever algae control you use (we use household bleach and chlorine tabs). The size is perfect for a family of six or so to cool off and splash around. The dark gray color is more pleasing to the eye and easier to compliment landscape than the lighter or bright blue pools and you can make it look even more inviting with landscaping and decking. Get this packaged pool set before spring and you will have the kids' outdoor activities covered for a while!

I am going to consider this a preliminary review, because it’s well-below freezing outside right now and we have about 6 inches of snow on the ground. I will absolutely update this review once I get this set up this spring. I had my neighbor come over and check out the pool to make sure all the pieces and parts were included. He has basically the same exact pool, same XTR frame, and pump style but in the 18 ft round variation. I’ve actually helped him with his pool and it’s pretty easy to setup. He’s had his for the last 3 years and it’s held up really well and his kids have gotten hours and hours of use out of it. Our pool is smaller but it’s perfect for the size of the paver patio we already have set up in our backyard. It will likely take very minimal effort in any to level it, or set it up because the area is already level. Everything in the box looks great. Parts seem to be there. Rather than re-use the box, I bought a large rolling tote to keep it in for storage. Our backyard is not at all ideal for a pool of any kind, and I am glad Intex makes this smaller size with the more rugged frame. We won’t be swimming laps in it but it should be more than adequate to cool off in and lounge around this summer. For the price point it’s perfect for our needs. My kid is going to have so much fun this summer, I can’t wait.
