  • As promised by seller. Booted!
Best part is the CPU booted properly. I've purchased 1 dud. I was pleased this one gave me zero issues. Experienced builder used proper cooling and paste. Right after install gave it a 5 minute stress test. No issues. nice older piece of hardware. Extending the life of an older build.

  • Ok
Bought wrong CPU. My old 4790k died after 4 long overclocked years of service. Loved it. Bought this 4790 CPU by mistake but will keep it for testing purposes. Works.

  • Easy performance upgrade for a Haswell-based system
I built a HTPC around a Haswell i3 processor. I wanted to transcode video on this system but needed more performance, and didn't want to completely rebuild the system. This refurb i7 was a drop in replacement and easily doubled performance. I docked a star because afterwards, I started experiencing occasional system resets. No warnings, nothing in system logs, just immediate reboots. I'm not sure what the specific cause it and it may have nothing to do with this CPU upgrade, but it acts like a power or memory issue. It only happens under specific circumstances when writing to a particular drive, so may be related to that HDD. But used components do come with some risk. I'm still glad I upgraded with this refurb CPU. ... show more

  • Don't get fooled by the bad reviews
It really is just based on the experience of the people. I think it was a great experience for me. At first, I thought that I had a faulty CPU since within the first few minutes the CPU was already getting hot. However, that was quickly resolved after seeing that my all in one water cooler was just dying, in fact, the pump just gave out all together. I put the stock cooler back on from a long time ago and it's working like a charm. Still is not to the same temps that I'm used to, but that's the trade-off of going back to the stock cooler. My custom pc is running better than ever for a 5-year-old build. Again, I found this awesome for a good price. It really is just based on the experience of the person who gets the item. ... show more

  • Awesome upgrade for old Dell
I have an old Dell i3847 bought in 2015? Overtime, upgraded RAM to 16gb and the PSU to 500W and an SSD. The GPU was 750 but is now the 1060 3gb. Anyway, the old i3 4170 was bottle necking anything I played; so, I thought wth, lets upgrade. The 4790 has been awesome. Easy switch from the old cpu to the new. Playing Overwatch, Don't Starve Together, Minecraft on max settings with no hiccups. Love this thing. Runs at 72 degrees C at max while gaming. Multitasking and other games have been easy for the 4790 to handle. If you have an older comp with a good GPU, 16gb RAM and an SSD, this CPU will buy you another 2 or 3 years before you need to upgrade to a new rig. Cheers :) PS came with just enough thermal paste allowing easy install with old stock fan ... show more

  • Brought new found life to my gaming system
I have a gaming PC that is several years old, which isn't the best for modern games. I've been trying to hold off building a new system and upgrading from an i5-4690K to this i7-4790 made a world of difference. I wasn't sure about buying a used CPU but all the research I read said that it was a safe bet if there was some guarantee, which is why I bought this processer from this seller. It is eligible for replacement or refund within 90 days of receipt which sold the deal for me. Before the upgrade playing the Division 2 my CPU percentage would be 98% now it's in the high 30% of CPU use. ... show more
