I have been tempted to upgrade from my 7800x3d since the release of the 9800x3d but held back. I have looked at reviews and also feedbacks from people who made the upgrade and they all were pretty mixed, a lot of people say it isn't worth it. Well I made the plunge today and bought the 9800x3d to replace my 7800x3d. I am getting this out of the way in terms of gaming: average fps won't be much of a difference from the 7800x3d since I play at high ultrawide 3840x1600 resolution. But, I did run some benchmarks before and after and saw a bit better performance on average and a good lift in the 1%/0.1% lows which improved game play smoothness. The best thing about the 9800x3d is the performance and thermals after undervolting it. This is a must. It is only a few clicks in bios in the PBO settings. Anybody can do it and should do it. Better temps, lower power usage, and more performance for free! Google it. My 7800x3d was also undervolted but it didn't make a big difference like the 9800x3d. This 9800x3d undervolted has improved efficiency and massively improved thermals. High 40 degrees C in gaming and low 60s degree C stress test. My undervolted 7800x3d was in the high 50 - 60s C gaming and high 70s- 80 C stress test. Same 360mm Arctic AIO cooler/setup. Much cooler and just as efficient as my undervolted 7800x3d. Even if it isn't much of an improvement in average FPS at high resolution gaming...the temps and efficiency as well as the improvement in single and multithread scores makes the upgrade worth it. An issue that I had with the 7800x3d and also my previous AM4 CPUs is that the CPU would spike up in temps when I do something like opening a software or watching a youtube video. The CPU fans would spin up which can be annoying, but the 9800x3d solved that. No more spiking temps so my CPU fans stay constant while doing casual things. I highly recommend this if you have a 7800x3d and is on the fence. I had to try it for myself because the mixed advice from people online about whether or not the 9800x3d would be an upgrade from the 7800x3d was driving me nuts. To me it was worth the upgrade and I should have done it sooner...but hey at least I saved $80 off MSRP for waiting too long.

I recently picked up the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D and I’ve been pretty blown away by its performance. First off, the 8-core, 16-thread setup is perfect for both gaming and multitasking. Whether I’m gaming, editing videos, or running multiple apps at once, this thing handles everything like a champ. The real star of the show, though, is the 3D V-Cache technology. You can definitely feel the difference in gaming, especially in titles that rely on fast cache. I’ve seen smoother frame rates and better overall performance, and I’m hitting higher frames in some games compared to my last CPU. It’s like AMD took what was already a beast of a chip and made it even better for gaming. If you’re someone who plays a lot of AAA games, you’re going to notice the performance boost, especially in open-world and CPU-heavy titles. The boost clock hitting up to 5.0 GHz is impressive too, so it’s got plenty of single-core performance when you need it. And even though this chip packs a punch, I’ve found it to be pretty power-efficient compared to some of the higher-end options, with a 120W TDP. That said, if you’re pushing it hard, make sure you’ve got good cooling in place to keep everything running smoothly. Compatibility with DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 makes this CPU a solid pick for future-proofing your system, especially if you’re building a rig that will last for a few years. It’s also running on the AM5 socket, so I’m looking forward to future upgrades without having to worry about a complete system overhaul. Honestly, if you’re looking for a chip that’s got great gaming performance, solid multitasking ability, and the potential for some serious future-proofing, the 9800X3D is a fantastic choice. Sure, it’s a little pricey, but for what it delivers, I think it’s worth every penny.

I've had this CPU for a little over a year, and I have loved every second of it! It runs everything I need to run, and even performs perfectly when streaming to Twitch/YouTube. Temps always run cool with an NZXT Kraken. Never had any issues with this bad boy so far. Only thing I can see myself upgrading to in the future is a 9950X3D if I ever decide to stream more consistently. Paired with a 9070XT, I run pretty much everything at 240FPS on 1440P. I do mostly play FPS/TacFPS/MOBAs which are not typically intensive, but regardless, I'm beyond happy with this purchase!

Happy to have received a legit cpu that was unopened. Booted up and works exactly like it should. Paired this with a 9070XT and its a beast for 1440 gaming. I'm pinned at 180hz. I am running a -20 undervolt and its super stable, could probably go lower. Runs nice and cool, usually peaking in the 70s and running in the 50s. Idles under 40.
