  • Perfect for low-power PC's!
Size: CPU Only
I upgraded an old PC with this CPU, a new motherboard, and new RAM. I kept the old power supply, because I didn't want to buy a new one. The problem was that the PSU is only 250W, not nearly enough for this CPU and the spare graphics card I had that I wanted to use. I've found that the integrated graphics in this i5 can more than handle what I need, and I don't need the graphics card. I use it as a sort of half workstation/half media center. I have a main screen on my desk (1366x768) and a second 1280x720 monitor, as a workstation. But at the push of a button (on an HDMI switcher,) I can switch the secondary monitor to my 1080p screen in my living room to stream netflix and such. The old parts could hardly run quickbooks, let alone a youtube video. Now it can do so much more, using less than 200W of power! ... show more

  • Good, but not great
Size: CPU Only
I recently upgraded my 1st generation i3 system to a 4th generation i5 system using this chip. This involved a new motherboard, new faster memory, and this new CPU, I re-used my SSD. Pros - faster than 1st gen i3 - it works Cons - not dramatically faster than 1st gen i3 - does not support wqhd on dvi-d interface like every other graphics processor - intel documentation and support makes the Taiwanese chinglish support look good. Typical FAQ answers provide no answer, but say "it depends, check with your computer manufacturer". I had to figure out the issue with dvi-d based on another customer's comment, not information from Intel ... show more

  • Cheapest Intel Haswell Quad
Size: CPU Only
Definitely a great CPU. I knew I wanted a true quad-core CPU rather than a dual core with HyperThreading, and with Turbo the per-thread speeds are basically the same as the lower-end i3s anyway. The included cooler is fine for a basic system or even a gaming system since your'e not going to be over clocking this thing - it doesn't have a K suffix so no unlocked multipliers. But if you want a system that's really quiet, you might consider a relatively inexpensive tower cooler with a 120mm or even a 92mm fan. I have a Cooler Master Hyper 212Evo which I got after I could hear the tiny fan whirring. Still it's not overly loud. ... show more

  • My latest Intel processor...
Size: CPU Only
I have built dozens of custom computers for over two decades and worked in an IT department at a university for five years and have never seen an Intel processor fail since the i386 processor (I saw one of these fail once). I only use Intel processors for this reason. For my main personal desktop, I've been kinda' cheap over the years and have only ordered processors at the two hundred dollar price point, which always seem to be the best value. I almost went up to the three hundred dollar price point this time with an i7 but I just couldn't do it and I'm not at all disappointed! ... show more

  • Really good CPU for the price
Size: CPU Only
Really good CPU for the price. Many people claim that it is not much faster than an I-3, which is correct when running a single core. But when you start pushing multi cores you will see a huge difference in performance. Plus this CPU overclocks itself! Closest comparison with AMD is the 8350 and I have both. If you are planning on gaming, the future titles that are ported from the consoles then go with the 8350, but if you run a lot of older games that use single core and newer multi cores then you want the 4430. Another note: The AMD 8350 runs loads hotter and pulls a lot more power, Still a good CPU though. ... show more

  • Its Intel therefore, its AWESOME!
Size: CPU Only
Holy Smokes this processor is fast! Just upgraded from an older Nehalem series Intel Core i5 and the difference is awesome! Much much faster, idle temp down at least 10C from the previous one using a stock cooler. Couple that with the faster DDR3 that i bought with it and this thing is blazing!

  • Made in 'nam
Size: CPU Only
Pros: Intel Cons: Not unlocked? But I didn't buy it to over clock. Is running at about 40 C in a Sentey Stealth case with stock cooler and GTX 750 sitting next to it. Edit: switched it over to a Corsair 350D with better airflow. Idles at 27C plays Titanfall at 35-40C. I recommend spending the extra money and getting the 4690k however. ... show more

  • FAST!
Size: CPU Only
I built a PC for my parents as theirs bit the dust by way of a motherboard failure, I suggested that I could build them a killer PC (for their needs) for a bit cheaper than buying a prebuilt from some company. This CPU running the new "Haswell" architecture is blazing fast, miles ahead of my older i3-3220. If I would have waited a few months I would have bought this for myself as it was only about $80 more than mine. This is paired up with a Gigabyte Z87 (GA-Z87-D3HP) motherboard and 6 gigabytes of RAM which is plenty for what they need. Basically all they do on the computer is surf the web, money management and occasionally my dad will edit some pictures. I'd definitely recommend this for anyone wanting a balance of speed and value, AMD still has a better value/performance ratio but I'd choose Intel any day simply because of personal preference. ... show more
