  • Great tool
Size: 12-Inch
I love this ruler. I do a little bit of everything when it comes to woodworking and a little bit of everything else also. Jack of trades.. I have been using this ruler much more than I ever thought that I would. The simple design of it being bent allows me to not only make my mark on the top surface but to also make an identically positioned mark on the side. Being able to do this allows me to be more accurate in marking my patterns. When starting out before making my first cuts I have found out on to many of an occasion that the end I started measuring from wasn't entirely square. This rule helps to ensure that I am starting my measurements from a correct location. Once you have placed this ruler on the corner of a piece of wood you easily can detect if the end is square or not. I have used mine for everything from furniture making to turning pens. I am going to invest in 6 inch model soon. I have wished a few times I already had one especially when doing smaller than 12 inch spaces like smaller doors and drawers. There are just so many different things that make this ruler so handy to use it on. I have even used mine to help mark round and square metal bar stock, plastic tubing, PVC, brass and even copper pipes. Having not only your mark on top of the item but to have an identically positioned mark along the side that will come in contact with your blade first is so helpful to ensure that your blade is beginning it's cut in the exact spot that you wanted. While the mark on top will help to ensure that your cut is tracking correctly. The accuracy is so precise. I have found out that you can also use it to determine how accurate your tape measures are. I admit that it was a little saddening to find out how many of the tape measures I have in my garage that were a little off. Some as little as a 1/32 and a few that were as much as a 1/4 inch off. I took the time to correct each one some by simply straightening the hook and a few I could only correct it by writing down the center of the tape how much to add or subtract. Plus writing the corrections as boldly as I could on the casing for the tape measures. So to wrap it up. Even though these aren't cheap they are worth every penny and then some. ... show more

  • Incra BNDRUL12 12-Inch Precision Bent Ruler
Size: 12-Inch
This product and virtually all Incra products are designed by people who are fanatical about precision. I am an amateur cabinet maker and this tool helped me to make marks that are very accurate using an ingenious design that folds the template over the workpiece. I can mark two sides simultaneously to eliminate error during repeated or transferred marking. A mechanical lead pencil easily sits in the grooves cut out and designed to accept the thin lead. Make your mark and you're set. Its that simple. I have to wear my readers though because the markings are a bit small, but that's to be expected on such a narrow, precise instrument. The dark numerals on the stainless backdrop is easily readable for my fading eyesight. I like the contrast of a dark instrument using light markings used as well on my Stanley framing sguare or Stanley speed square. But this Incra is also marked well despite the shiny backdrop of the stainless. I recommend this instrument. It is very helpful in making good, accurate measurements . ... show more

  • Precise and refined manufacturing
Size: 12-Inch
Extraordinary precision and repeatability. Hay, that's what measuring is about. Beautiful manufacturing and materials. No better way to transfe a mark to both sides of a piece of work. It feels more precise than a square on both sides and for making two (or more) measurments without moving the rule is very helpful. The blade is thin, so I worry about putting a permanent bend in it, but thin helps with marking and visualizing other marks. I got the rest of the set (small and large T, 18" ruler, center finder, and the compass) I am completely pleased with each. ... show more

  • Precise
Size: 6-Inch
I was torn between 3&4 stars for this since I find myself not using this rule often, but I have to give it its due. It is mostly well made & precise. It is fragile, not to be thrown in a tool box with hammers & the like. It's a layout tool, as such I miss that it lacks 1/64" markings & holes. I got it to accurately mark lines around adjacent perpendicular surfaces. I can only do this on the one end that is not part of the 6 inch scaled section. The other end at the theoretical zero has a ragged edge with exposed half width holes & slots remaining from manufacturing cutoff that the .5mm point proper size pencil snags in when trying to mark around corners. I use the Incra 6" T rule 50 times more than I do this & kinda wish I also bought the 3 inch T ruler despite it also missing 1/64" markings which the 6" T rule has. I wish the 6" bend rule were made with 2 smooth continuous surface ends. Might give it a 5 & use it more. ... show more

  • Accuracy without spending alot.
Size: 6-Inch
I have several Incra rules and love them all. I bought this so I can accurately transfer a line from the face of a board to the edge etc... without fumbling around with a square and missing the mark anyway. It does everything as advertised. The beginning of the rule starts with a half hole and groove. I like this as it keeps my measurements spot on. Since it is a six inch rule and say I want a seven inch measure, I mark the six inch, then align the half hole or groove over the six inch mark, measure an inch and mark. The half hole keeps me from being off mark as I move the rule to continue. I keep mine on a magnet strip where it is easy to grab and keeps it like new. Will not rust as is made from stainless steel. If you just want a ruler for rough marking go with something else, but if you are looking for a precise layout tool, you can't really go wrong with Incra's. One thing I found out is if using generic 0.5 lead you will get alot of breaks, very frustrating. I bought Super Hi-Polymer lead along with a 0.5 Side FX pencil. Made a big difference. Also HB is dark enough without using much pressure. I placed the pencil in the ruler's hole and ran it over oak and the end grain without breakage. You develop a feel as to how much pressure to apply, but no matter how lightly I pressed, the generic lead always broke when hitting grain. The side click pencil allows me to advance lead without moving my hand, so as not to lose my mark and start over again. Combine the rule with hi-polymer lead and you have accuracy at a reasonable price. ... show more
