Normal Operation: The operation of the fit for thermostat is fully automatic. When installed properly it will turn ON after user have set the temperature by turning the controlling switch clockwise, then the heating- up indicator turns on. As long as the fit for thermostat is on, it will heat up the water to the user-set level and maintain the temperature. User can turn the controlling switch anticlockwise to a temperature lower than the current water temperature to turn OFF the fit for thermostat, and the heating-up indicator turns off.     • Not bad for a knock-off
Although this is a cheaper version of the genuine COATES line of pool and spa heaters, it does actually work. As a certified master electrician I can say that this unit does have the correct components to safely generate the advertised 3Kw of heating capacity. That being said, I highly recommend using either of these two grounding solutions, if not both: Install a switch box locally to the heater unit, incorporating a 20-Amp, 120/240V, 2-Pole, GFCI, fed with a feeder of 12-3 properly terminated at the main panel. Secondly My personal recommendation is a ground rod driven locally to the heater unit and connected to the heater barrel with a #8 conductor; so as to prevent energizing the pool water in the case of a element burn-out. Other than that, this is actually an affordable alternative to the more pricey COATES unit. ... show more

    • it works!
We saw all the bad reviews but we still decided to order because we could not find a different option. So when my husband connect at first there was no heat at all and we were not sure what was going on. He is an electrician so he tested the power and said that the unit isnt using any electricity. So he opened it up and saw that inside there is a pump sensor, since we have a bestway pool that has a small pump, the pressure was not enough to activate the unit. (I guess its there so the unit wont overheat when pump isnt working). We are considering buying a more powerful pump but for now he just disconnected the sensor and the heater worked!! We had the heat work over night and in the morning our 1000 gal pool was 31c, pretty good! so far very happy with this heater! ... show more

Not compatible with most outdoor pools unless you purchase $100s more worth of equipment. Tube through and to the pump are not included. Instructions are inadequate at purchase.
