The icemaker worked fine for two months. Then no matter what size cube setting that I used it only generated half size or less cubes that were not solidly formed and were practically worthless. Have reset it by unplugging and plugging back in after 10 minutes alternated cube size settings, everything possible from the outside. It still does not work. Do not recommend this icemaker for long-term use when long-term means more than two months. Online troubleshooting, practically worthless.

Ice quality is great using filtered water. Not much difference between the 2 sizes. The cubes don't always come out the same. Sometimes instead of clear, they're frosty white (which are easier for crunching) even though same water is used. The white plastic screen is easy to remove, but the small, round metal screen behind it is harder. It turned on and made noise but didn't make ice for days (and didn't buy the warranty). Just continuing going through the cleaning, rinsing and pouring water through it process had it working again. I run it for a whole day, bag and freeze it. If it keeps working, I love it.

Well (sob!) it finally happened. After more than TWO DECADES of daily use, our original IGLOO ice maker passed away. When shopping for a replacement, based on the longevity of the first one, we bought an identical product. It's cranking out a new batch of ice while I click at this keyboard. The noise level is decidedly higher than the original; however, I don't spend much time in the kitchen aside from clicking at this keyboard and preparing meals. Oh, must add the louder hum is worth it. This new IGLOO is even better than the old EVER was. This brand new IGLOO keeps the batches of ice cold enough (for hours!) so that it does not melt away into the water reservoir. As to future cleaning over the years, occasionally I would use a Q-tip to get into nooks and crannies. Verrrry occasionally. Just give it a brief inspection every year or two. By the way, during those two decades, the IGLOO had to be moved from my husband's office to my husband's new office and then to our home when he retired. Ran solidly despite those disruptions, bouncy rides in the trunks of those cars. Set up? Couldn't be easier. Plug it in, add the water to the max fill line, put the receiving basket in place. Voila! Oh, we do use double filtered water so don't have to worry about mineral deposits. We consider this new IGLOO a memorial to the original!

It's a decent little ice machine but there are better ones. It makes ghost-shaped cubes that are hollow in the middle and it takes quite a while to make them, especially in hotter weather. You have to dump the new cubes quickly or they just melt and get remade into new cubes. So it takes quite a while to get a full tub of cubes. You really have to stay on top of it if you're trying to fill the ice maker in your freezer with a batch of cubes from this machine. It does have an automatic shut off for when it runs out of water, which I like. Overall I would get a different machine next time. My friend has one that makes really awesome crushed ice like the gas station and she says it works fast, although it is notably much bigger than this machine which sits on top of my mini fridge or easily on a countertop.

I had another one like this before that just stopped working one day. I tried to replace it with another igloo product and I was very disappointed with it. It made much smaller ice pieces than this one even though it was supposed to do the exact same thing. I returned it, paid a little bit more when I found this one and now I am happy again with my ice maker! This one is definitely worth the money.
