Installed this in the basement door so the cat could get to her litter box without the door being open. Installation was pretty easy, and the template was helpful. Cat was very reluctant to use it for a while, even when we showed her how it worked, and kept asking us to open the door for her. Eventually we just stopped giving her that option, and she got used to the door, so definitely just go all in with the door training. She sometimes catches her tail on the closing door, and I think that's what bothers her the most about it. Sometimes she'll just sit next to the door and paw at it to get it to open and close like some kind of toy. The hinge makes some noise, so it can get a little annoying. Other times she just sits in the basement and looks through the clear window at me, which can get a bit creepy. The door is great, though. It was a good purchase. ... show more

The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because the locking function isn’t full proof. I use this door for my two Boston Terriers, one is full grown (so about a 20lb dog) and the other is a puppy. For the most part this door keeps them in, they go up and nudge it and know if it’s closed or not. However sometimes when they get really wound up and excited (aka the zoomies) the bigger dog will run straight at the door and plow right thru it no matter if it’s locked or not. This isn’t a big deal for us as our backyard is fenced in and the two of them are in their kennels when no one is home, but it might be a problem for someone who leaves their dogs out with access to the pet door but doesn’t want them to be able to run in and out freely. Other than that it’s a pretty good pet door for the price. I bought this product because it was exactly the same pet door that was installed when I moved into my house, so it was a super easy install. Took me all of 5 minutes to get it put in. The reason we had to replace the old one was because the strip around the doors edge came unglued so I imagine after a bit of time this one might do the same, but for this price that really doesn’t bother me. ... show more

I have the traditional 1 size cat door, which is very small... came home with a Maine Coon..... she weighs 12-13 lbs, and is thing but big body!, no trouble for her, she can go in/out onto her porch anytime!

I'm a lady with very little tool knowledge and experience, but I was able to install this myself. It went flawlessly, and the cat instantly used it. She actually went in and out of it several times right away as if it were a toy. The only slightly scary part was using the power saw to make the hole, but it followed my tracing line perfectly. I was looking for a large enough door that had the locking mechanism as opposed to a sliding panel, but only the small doors had that function and were way too small for my corgi dog. Finally! a great inexpensive door that works as advertised. My only two things I would improve is I chalk-painted the flap door since it was transparent, and I worry about the lock not being as strong. I could see if my dog really wanted to bash thru or run thru the door that the lock might not hold. Time will tell, but so far so good and my dog loves it as much as I do! ... show more
