  • Pretty good chair. Comfortable
Size: Foot-Ring Color: Black
I really like this chair. I purchased this in June of 2023. It's very comfortable. The rollers aren't working the best, but I can deal with that. My biggest issue with this is that the pneumatic cylinder doesn't hold up. I'm not a heavy person by any means, (170 lbs) and the cylinder no longer stays up. If you sit in the chair for more than 15 minutes, you're going to drop 3 or 4 inches. The ring that acts as a footrest also does not stay up, no matter how tight you try to screw it in. It's a daily thing to move it back up to suitable height. ... show more

  • Awesome chair! Awesome company with awesome customer service!
Size: Foot-Ring Color: Black
UPDATED REVIEW # 2 (December 18, 2023): Well, after an initial 5-star rating and a subsequent drop to 4 stars after the gas cylinder started to fail, I'm raising my rating of the Hylone High-Back Mesh Ergonomic Drafting Chair BACK to 5 full stars. Here's why ... After months of dealing with a failing gas cylinder that caused my chair to slowly sink or suddenly drop without warning, it finally got so bad last month that I had to decide whether to a.) live with the chair permanently in the "down" position, b.) buy an aftermarket brace that would permanently lock it in the "up" position, c.) replace the cylinder, or d.) buy a new chair. Options A and B were nonstarters because I need the chair to be able to go up and down to accommodate work surfaces at various heights. Replacing the cylinder felt like the simplest and most economical solution, so I contacted the manufacturer to confirm the size and type of cylinder I needed. To my amazement, they not only responded quickly (within a day), but instead of providing me with information about the type of replacement to buy, they simply offered to send me a replacement cylinder free of charge. Apparently I've grown jaded and cynical in my old age (42), because I just assumed that after nearly 3 years, no manufacturer would take ownership of a defective component. I am so happy to be wrong. In fact, the whole experience has restored some of my faith in humanity (not all of it, but some of it). And after installing the new replacement cylinder, my chair works like a dream again. It was like meeting up with an old friend you haven't seen in years. Ahhh.... That said, removing the old cylinder was a whole saga unto itself, and I have the bruises to prove it. However, despite the interminable and epically frustrating cylinder-ectomy procedure, I will say that the effort was ultimately entirely worth it. It just required a lot of patience, a lot of loud metal-on-metal pounding with a hammer, and about a gallon of WD-40. Based on my unexpectedly incredible experience with Hylone customer service, I can say that when I'm finally ready to upgrade to a new model, I will definitely be looking to Hylone. It's a breath of fresh air to encounter a brand that stands behind their products, especially when they haven't even been asked to do so. Not only did they offer to send me the replacement free of charge, but an actual human being followed up with me a few days after the new cylinder was delivered to make sure that I'd received it, that the installation process went OK, and that the replacement solved the problem. Like, what other company does that anymore? If I could, I'd give them 6 stars! UPDATED REVIEW # 1 (November 22, 2023): After 2½ years of use, I still LIKE this chair, but I'm not loving it nearly as much. I'm removing a star because for the last year or so, the gas lift has only "lifted" when it's apparently in the mood to cooperate. While it still goes up and down as it should when I lift the lever on the underside of the chair, it rarely stays *up* anymore. I'll be sitting in the chair doing work, when all of a sudden, it'll drop like a broken elevator, giving me a small heart attack. Other times it will slowly lose height until I'm reaching UP to the surface of my desk to type, like a toddler trying to reach the cookie jar on top of the fridge. For the record, I'm 165 lbs. and have not gained any weight since my purchase, so it hasn't been under any extra strain lately. I only mention this because that's the first question my father asked when I called him to see if he had any "Dad fixes" for a sinking office chair. "Well, have you gained any weight, son?" *face palm* I suppose that one can purchase replacement gas cylinders, but it seems like an unnecessary expense and a lot of hassle for a chair that's not that old. Since the chair moves up and down much farther than most other office chairs, I don't even know if a standard cylinder replacement would work on this one without having to sacrifice several inches of height – so that'll definitely require research. I also know that there are aftermarket devices that one could buy that lock a sinking chair in the UP position, but that's not really an option for me, because I need to have the ability to move the chair back down again, depending on the type of work I'm doing. So, there are no easy solutions. Is this a deal-breaker? No. At the end of the day, is it just a petty annoyance? Probably. There are more pressing issues in the world at the moment than my sinking chair. And I will be keeping it, because there's a lot to like about it, aside from its inability to rise to the occasion when I need it to. But it is disappointing – and something to consider for anyone looking to purchase this chair. ORIGINAL REVIEW (March 7, 2021): I was hesitant to buy this chair at first, but what a great purchase. The foot rest alone was worth it. The height is perfect. It looks sharp. And I love the fact that the arms fold up and down. There are only two things that could make this chair better in my opinion: 1. The assembly could be a little easier. It's not difficult to put together, per se, but the instructions aren't quite explicit enough. I put a couple pieces on backwards at first because the technical drawings were a little hard to interpret and the pieces weren't labeled. Easy enough to figure out, but required a little more time (about 45 mins) and patience than I'd anticipated. 2.. The casters are a little stiff, so it doesn't glide as easily as I'd like on plush pile carpet. It rolls, but it requires some real effort. Those minor issues aside, I'm really happy with the purchase. I haven't enjoyed sitting at my desk this much in ages. ... show more

  • Comfortable but not the height it says
Size: Foot-Ring Color: Grey
I needed to get a chair that has a seat that sits about 33 inches off the ground. This chair says on it's dimensions that is is 31.2 inches. I was like "That's two inches difference... but should still work?" I have my computer on a bar so it HAD to be at minimum 31 inches. At max height my chair is sitting at 30 inches. Not 31. And that's up to the curved up part of the seat. The seat is also very plush, which is great, but it means you sink into the chair another half inch or so when you sit in it. So we are going to say that right now, without me sitting in it, the chair sits at 29.5 inches. We are now a far cry from the 33 inches I needed my chair to be and a ways away from the 31.2 the listing says it is. ONCE I SIT IN THE CHAIR THOUGH. The height drops by another 2 inches. So now we are at 27.5 inches. Putting us at 3 inches shorter than I was expecting to sit at. The chair is well constructed and it's comfortable for what I can tell so far, but right now it is looking like I will have to return it because it is NOT as tall as it says it is. Right now the tops of my legs are 8 inches from the underside of my desk. I'm going to give it a week to figure out if it is going to cause me pain to sit in the chair because it will be a MASSIVE pain to take apart and ship back, but at $200 I'm not going to keep a chair that will possibly cause me physical pain in the long run. Edit: After a few hours of using the chair another issue I am finding is that the chair tilts slightly forward when you are seated in it. Which doesn't sound like much but it is enough to make the chair start to feel uncomfortable. So far, in order to actually feel comfortable in the chair, I have to lower the tension and lean back in the chair to feel any real comfort. Thus far actually siting upright in the chair, trying to use my computer, most of my back doesn't even touch the back of the seat and I need to use a stool under my feet in order to keep my legs straight so I don't feel like I'm going to slide forward. Edit: I ended up keeping the chair because it was decently comfortable and after I changed out the wheels for bigger wheels and did a trick with ring clamps on the cylinder to keep the chair from sinking it was the right height I needed. So after some tweeks the chair was great...... for about 2 1/2 months. Ove the last week the chair seat started getting wobbly. So after a mere 3 1/2 months the chair is wobbly. Edit: This is a LONG overdue edit. I realize I never even really explained that something went wrong with the chair. The wobbliness that I experienced after 3 1/2 months was due to a piece breaking inside the base plate that you screw into the chair. I reached out to the company and, while it ended up being a bit of a complicated process due to no ones fault, the company did send me a replacement plate and I fixed my chair. The reason it took so long was because at first I was attempting to remove the cylinder from the plate to swap out the plate and and the cylinder would not come free. So they sent me a replacement cylinder so that I could just take off the whole plate without having to try to get the cylinder free. It's been a while since that happened like a REALLY long time at this point, but recently I think the same piece in the plate broke again. I'm not going to bother reaching out to the company this time as, even though this is the second time this has happened with this chair, it has been a while. I did end up adjusting to the weird tilt of the chair and it's been pretty comfortable. I fixed the height issue between the circular clamps on the cylinder and buying new wheels for the chair. It's been a pretty comfortable chair to have. I've liked it. The raising arms after been nicer than I expected them to be because it's easier for my son to sit on my lap without the arms in the way. So being able to move them has been great. Overall I'd recommend it mostly because even if something DOES go wrong with the chair, the company seems to be pretty amazing and has top tier customer service. I'm not going to change the star rating as the chair HAS no broken twice in a relatively short period of time in comparison to what you would hope a chair this expensive would last. I just want people to know that even if something does happen this company seems to have your back. ... show more
