  • Nice Heater
Size: XX-Small
CLIFF NOTE VERSION: Both heater work very well. The Nicrew is smaller, less obtrusive, but not adjustable. The Hygger is a tad larger, is adjustable, and has a large red LED readout of the tank temperature. LONG VERSION: I have purchased mini-heaters in the past and they either didn't heat or fried the water. I long ago learned to do the bucket test. I purchased the Nicrew Mini (15 watt) and the Hygger (15 watt). The Nicrew is smaller with a preset stated as 76 degrees F. The Hygger is adjustable with a large LED readout. It is super easy to set. There’s a rheostat type adjuster that’s on the cord. The readout is on the heater. That makes it easy to bump the heat up or down without sticking your hand in the water. The downside is that the light on the heater is noticeable in the tank. You’ll want to hide it with plants or décor if you’re going for a natural look. Both were placed in a 3 gallon bucket of 70 degree water for one hour before plugging in. This is a manufacturer suggestion, and, IMHO, failing to do this is bad for the heater. The room was 70 degrees. I plugged them in and set the Hygger. An hour later both buckets of water were at 74-75. That temp held for 24 hours, even though the room temp dropped to 65 at night. I'm now using the Nicrew 15 watt in a 2.5 gallon tank and I’ve very happy with it. The Nicrew holds rock steady at 74. I'm keeping both heaters. I'll use the Hygger in the winter when the room temp is much colder and I may need to use the adjustable feature to compensate for the room/tank temps. I used a scientific thermometer for my readings. Big thumbs up for both heaters. I suggest you do the bucket test as heaters can vary. ... show more

  • easy to read
Size: Small
Working well and easy to read... kind of bulky compared to the old glass tube style heaters but the style change is growing on me.

Perfect heater and size and features are great for the size!

  • Heats consistently so far.
Size: X-Small
After buying two defective 25 watt heaters from the same company (the first one wouldn't heat at all, the second one wouldn't stop heating and overheated the tank) from Amazon, I switched brands and tried the Hygger Mini. This heater has a digital temperature control, which at first didn't work, refused to go lower and also gave error messages. I plugged it back in a couple of times and it finally booted up correctly and was able to set the temperature I wanted. The thermometer on this heater is off by about a degree and a half compared to my digital standalone thermometers, so I'm keeping the Hygger set at 74 in order to heat the tank around 75 to 75.5. So far, the heater is very consistent and I'm having no issues with it other than the thermostat may be registering a degree or so colder than the water really is. ... show more

  • Keeping it warm
Size: X-Small
Bought this to replace a heater that did not have a thermostat. Tested it in a 2 gal tank along with a thermometer positioned on opposite wall. Worked great. Put it in my 5 gal tank, set for 80F for my betta. So far so good, no issues. It is behind the foam filter unit so heat is distributed through water and the thermometer on opposite wall is seeing same temp as given on thermostat. Happy with my purchase. Price seems fair to me. ... show more

  • Great Heater for Fluval Premium Betta Tank, but only rated for 10000 hours
Size: X-Small
This heater appears to be custom-made for the Fluval Premium Betta 2.6 & 6-gallon tanks. The 50W heater can effectively handle low room temperatures in winter without overheating the tank in summer. Removing the suction cups, it perfectly fits into the rear well next to the pump. Its display shines through the decalled glass to show temperature and activity. So far, it has kept the temperature at 0.5℉ above the set point of 76℉, with room temperature fluctuating from 62℉ to 79℉. With 25W, it should be capable of dealing with winter nighttime temperatures. We do not heat at night, and room temperatures might drop to 50℉. It works accurately and reliably, but it has an indicated 10,000-hour design lifetime. It will indicate an "EL" end-of-life error after that to prompt replacement. This should be listed in the product description. Background: The bundled Fluval heaters have a fixed set point and run the tank at higher temperatures than I prefer. For $22 this hygger is a great improvement! ... show more

  • Temp way off on these
Size: Medium
Temp sensor reads way off about 6 degrees off not even sure if its heating anything or the fish where lucky to be alive by room temp. I got it do to size to fit in the output chamber then have the Fluval M50 in the intake chamber and have the controller on the outside of the tank the hygger 100w help with fitting it and the spot I wanted and so on but not worth it if reading are way off and does not heat well. Update I return the hygger just junk got the EX100 heater from Aquatop 100times better. Ex100 does have no protection devices on it but you can add your own protection shut off the the plug side it's still better then hygger. The EX100 they said could be 1.7F off but in my tank it's only 1.1F off not like Hygger way off and out of control heat ranges hygger has protection devices built in but will not shut off until 95degrees by that time kiss your fish good bye anyway. I recommend the Aquatop EX100 over hygger pretty much all there products are better then Hygger. ... show more

  • Better than every other brand. UPDATE 1 year after first review. WAS good.
Size: XX-Small
This heater is perfect, with lots of safety features built in. I use this in a 2.5 gallon tank. I love that it displays temp at all times and has safety auto shut off feature. WAY better. I sent 3 other heaters back. One nearly killed my fish when it leaked chemicals into the water. I highly recommend this one, and not wasting time and money on the others. UPDATE one year later: This heater only lasts 10,000 hrs, and that's exactly how long mine lasted before "EL" error (which I assume stands for End Life), because code means - yep, it's DONE. So these are disposable heaters. Good if you plan to buy a new one every year. ... show more
