I base my star rating on quality alone, but I have to say, this is an absolute steal priced around $30. I'm now buying a second one to replace one of my older nano tank's lights because I like the first one so much. Generally, I despise built-in timers (the ones with only a few buttons, no display or Hour:Minute time setting) and vowed to never buy a light with one again. I'd much rather use a cheap wifi outlet. However, this one offers a clever solution to the main issues. The start times are spaced in 6 intervals over a 24 hour period. At most, you'll wait a couple hours and set it to the closest start time. No more waking up at 4AM to re-set your timer after a power outage. Also, you can manually cycle the lighting options without disturbing the timer. No more waking up at 4AM to re-set the timer because you wanted to show a friend your tank at 10PM and broke the cycle. The one-button smart cycle is perfect, and is basically the same schedule I would meticulously program if I had full control over each individual lighting mode. I set it once with a few clicks when I set the tank up, and haven't had to mess with it since. The lighting is great for smaller tanks, 20g might be pushing it as the upper limit. 5-10g is ideal. My tank in the pic is 4g and this works great. Side note - it needs more plants and will eventually have shrimp. This pic is only the early stages of the tank after establishing the carpeted bottom. It's too soon to speak on the longevity of this device, but so far it's easily 5 stars and I'm very impressed with it. ... show more

If you just don’t want any to shell out 100 plus for an aquarium grow light, this brand is for you. I did some research before purchasing, and someone actually did tests on several different aquarium lights, and this rated up there with the high priced brands as far as brightness, the depth the light is good to, along with some other tests I can’t remember. I love this light. Very sturdy and my plants are doing very well. All colors are dimmable except he preset 24 hour cycle, which does its own thing and is very cool. My only complaint about that function is the same everyone else has. You can’t program it and every time you press a button, unplug it, etc, you have to reset it the next morning. Not really a big deal. Great value for the price! Recommend! ... show more

This light is great. Very bright and a solid value price. Love the color option and mostly intend to use it for the 24/7 feature. I did have to knock a star off, though. It is very much a best fit for rimless tanks so there is a slight lean to the light if you have a thing rim like mine(big issue if you have a thick rim). Also, the perch coupled with the rim issue means if you want to hang it on from the short end and you have a rim on the tank it is going to noticeably droop. Now, that issue to me would be minor and a half-star deduction that I would round up. Why I knocked it down to came from something I noticed now that I have had some time to sit next to it on the weekend... The controller, which is really neat and the 24 hour cycle is perfect when it comes to the lighting, but it makes a NOISE. You'll notice that the little LED light on the 24 hour cycle seems to go on/off every second, which I presume is connected to its timing system, and there is low volume but pitchy electric whine noise that coincides with the light blinking. So bizarre and I may see if I can enclose it in some foam wrap to dampen the noise. ... show more

I like the the dawn/dusk dimming feature. I like the custom timing feature. I like the clip on feature. Nothing lasts forever but these have outlasted other lights I have purchased. Highly recommend!

I went through several less expensive lights.they broke after a couple months. I love all hyger products. I have their thermometer, gravel cleaner and now full spectrum plant light. The quality is extremely high for the cost. If I had to do over again I would start with this company. The lights are clear,they have white, red, blue and green and doesn't seem to bother my Bettas eyes! Ignore any comments that the light is not secure. If that is the case it was not properly joined with the base....very secure! Enjoy! ... show more

I’m using this light for my 10 gallon rimless tank. It’s easy to fix on and the attached remote is simple to use. It has a non-customizable 24/7 schedule that you can set to your specific time, and a timer option that you can set 6, 10, or 12 hours, dim/brighten, and change the color mode. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now, and it doesn’t get hot. It is visually appealing, and I prefer it over the goose neck lamps since the neck is sturdy and won’t buckle over the weight of its own light. The plants (different Java ferns, water wisteria, crystalwort, anacharis, bucephalandra, rotala hra, jungle Val) I have in the tank are also doing great with it. My only complaint about it is that the cable can only come out of the left side and the outlet I plug it into is on the right. I wouldn’t say it’s enough of a complaint to not make it 5/5 stars. ... show more
