I had an algae bloom in my aquarium, and suddenly my tank was green and cloudy. In this situation water changes don't help, all they do is provide fresh nutrients and make things worse. The algae is microscopic, there's no way to filter it out of the water. Enter the hygger Aquarium UV Light. I put this device in the aquarium where the water flows pretty well from the filter. I closed the Protective Shield so it wasn't shining its UV light on all my tank critters -- the shield still allows water to flow past the UV light. It only took two days and it had killed all the microscopic algae that had turned my water green. There's no residue, there's no cloudy water, there's no green water. And absolutely zero harm to any of my fish or plants or other critters. Since then I've used its timer to only run a little while each day, just in case something like that happens again. I'm sure it would help if there were any kind of bacterial outbreak too. The water is crystal clear. I suppose I could take it out of the tank, but why? May as well leave it there running a little bit. Have green water in your tank? Buy this. No chemicals, no fuss, quick and perfect results, and long term benefits. I'm very happy with this item, I'm sure you will be too.

Terrific!!! Adjusted the outer cover by turning it, so my fish and I don't get blinded. Worked great to clear the water in my 3 gallon long tank. Didn't affect plants, shrimps, or fish!!! Five thumbs up!!!

I bought this U-V light for a 5 gallon aquarium that has had bad algae monthly. This light is incredible! First, other models I looked at had lights that illuminated into the aquarium. Not good for the fish. This one, the light is covered and the water just moves in and out of the unit. I was worried that not enough water would flow in and out of the unit to make it work effectively. 3 months now and very the tank always looks great. Of course, there is some caked on debris on the glasss and decorations, but no more algae where you can’t see into the aquarium. Completely effective. This light is completely worth it! If it broke, I’d buy another immediately or would add one to any future aquariums.

UPSIDE AND PROS- This light cured a green water algae bloom that I had tried everything to get rid of. Even blacking out my tank for 2 days did not get rid of it and adding a water clairafyer and algaecide. I lost half my live plants and nearly lost my Betta. He was very sick. I put him in a hospital tank of fully filtered RO water not adding any thing in it and he fully recovered. After adding this light it took all of 4 days and a 50% water change until it was fully clear. I have also added Purigin filter resin ( be sure to use only the amount you need and no more) and Aquatic Experts water polishing filter pad 50 Micron fine because it catches the tiniest particles that cause algae problems. Also this company's classic bonded filter floss that the water passes in through first to catch larger debri then goes through the fine filter then the last thing before the goes back to the tank is through the Purigin. The light alone will not get rid of algae on your ornaments and plants. It works on the green water algae bloom only but using all these products together will cut down on all your algae problems a lot. ONE DOWN SIDE- The replacement bulb is extremely hard to find and its supposed to be replaced each year even if its still working it has lost its effectiveness after 1 year.

Works perfectly! No assembly needed. Be patient if installing during an ongoing algae bloom. Water changes and cleaning are necessary to ensure the growth of green algae is arrested. I used this in a 5 gallon tank and had the algae under control within about 2 weeks. Now it is in use 12 hours a day by using the timer. The water is crystal clear. My tetras are thriving (be sure to use the light shield). Definitely worth the investment. The light can be seen when it’s on by looking sideways at the shield, you can see the glow.

I bought this due to an algae bloom in my 30 gallon tank. It did nothing to help. I still needed to change out the water over and over and scrub the decorations to clear up the bloom even though I let it run 24/7 for 2 weeks. I also thought it was supposed to sterilize the water, but my fish got fin rot. I have 2 other tanks and have never experienced this before. The light was suction cupped in the tank.

I have a 15-gallon HelloReef tank that’s been running for about three months with live rock, inverts, fish, and soft corals. Recently the water started getting cloudy, and water changes didn’t help. I placed this in the back chamber where the return pump is located, exposed the UV light all the way open, and ran it overnight on the 12-hour setting. By morning, the tank was completely clear. Highly recommend.

I was afraid after reading negative reviews, but so far so good. My betta is unbothered by the light, albeit the convenient light shield is in full use when the light is on. The timer is a nice functional touch for when you arent there to turn it off in time. So far it seems to be of good quality, but Ive got my eye on it and will update this if I need to.
