  • Beware over-heating
Size: 500W (for 60-120 gallon)
Placed into my aquarium 24 days ago and today the controller was a blank screen and the heater inside the tank was raising the temps above 82 with it set for 76. I unplugged the heater and after about 30 seconds, plugged it back in and the controller was viewable once again with the setting now at 74 and the temperature in the water is now dropping. Fortunately I caught it quickly enough that I haven't lost any fish, but not sure that I can trust this any longer to maintain a proper temperature in my aquarium. Only reason I didn't give it one star is because it seems to have reset itself ok and is currently functioning properly, but until I can get a replacement, definitely keeping a close eye on this situation. Update 2021-03-18: I have been watching this closely now for the 5 1/2 months that it has been in service. The temperature has not climbed much past the set point since that one time, but the controller no longer shows the set temperature, in fact the LED display has just about faded completely. You can still change the set point, but you have to watch the numbers on the heater in the water as you change the setting to see what you are setting it to. I have it currently set to 75 and the other thermometers in the tank show the current water temperature at 76 while the display on the heater shows the water temperature at 75.4... This leads me to believe that all the issues are with the controller and that the heater itself is a quality product. Update 2021-08-20: The heater failed completely last month and no matter how many times I have tried to reset it, it continues to display the error status. I have a 75 gallon fresh water aquarium, so the water holds its temperature fairly well and the heater didn't have to work that hard. I never let the water level drop below the top edge of the heater during water changes, so I have to say I got a lemon and even though there are a lot of great reviews on this heater (one of the reasons I purchased it), I don't think I will buy another one and don't think I can recommend it to anyone else. ... show more

  • Works so far but cannot vouch for accuracy
Size: 800W (for 120-180 gallon)
I purchased this product (800W) on Oct 10, 2021 and it is now March 11, 2022. It survived the winter but indoors and this seemed to have done its job. I have goldfish so it's hard to tell if it fluctuated a lot since goldfish don't care. I kept it at 73F the whole winter with platys and everything was fine. I wish I could review the accuracy with a mercury thermometer but I don't have one. I did use a bluetooth thermometer for a while (it's on a different tank now) and it was about the same temperature, off by half a degree but that's to be expected between thermometers. As long as they stay the same during temperature changes it's all good. It didn't rust or do anything bad. Protip: Never take out the water until the unit cools off! These things can break for that reason. Will edit review if something comes up. ... show more

  • Great for Outdoor above ground pond!
Size: 800W (for 120-180 gallon)
The media could not be loaded. I am absolutely happy with this heater. We created an 150 gallon outdoor above ground oasis for our Red Eared Sliders so we moved them from their 55 gallon indoor tank. I had read reviews about this heater and people did not recommend for outdoor pond use because it is intended for indoor not becausethey tried it. Well I am here to tell you that as long as the main control unit is completely waterproofed (covered) and electrical plug is completely waterproofed (covered) there is no issue with the heater for outdoor use and it works Great! I love the fact I can go out at night and clearly check the temperature through the water. We have been getting night time temperatures below 45 degrees lately so I periodically check the temperature of the water with an external thermometer to make sure it is continuing to work properly and maintain accuracy of the temperature which it has with no issues. The RES Turtles are nice and Happy 😊 staying warm and toasty. Length of the cords are perfect as well. ... show more

  • Best heater I've had
Size: 500W (for 60-120 gallon)
I've gone through a few water heaters in the past couple of years. Some don't heat the water very well, some broke way too easily, some just continued to heat the water with no stop. This heater is amazing. Its a little big and bulky but it's awesome. Have zero problems with the suction cups, the temperature gage on the outside where I can actually see the temp is amazing and I control very easily. It keep the water at the perfect temperature and if it falls too low, quickly heats it, but if it only a little low it slowly heats. Very easy to clean. I had it for a couple months now and I don't think I will get any other heater if I ever need to replace this one. ... show more
