I'm not a fan of e-bikes or e-scooters and after 100 miles on this bike it didn't make me a fan of one. However, I was already an regular bike rider (travel about 30 miles a day on a heavy beach cruiser in the hilly city), and it is very helpful to my commute. It has three levels of pedal assist that gets you between 9-15 mph on the lowest setting and 9-18 miles on the highest setting, and if I'm just too exhausted to pedal, there's throttle only which gets me up between 17-22 mph easily. I like that neither the pedal assist and throttle are not breakneck, jerky, or inconsistent, but smooth, consistent, and uniform. I can attest for the 20+ mile range, however, that's is with mixing up the types of drive I use (pedal assist 1,2,3 and full throttle), but I have yet to test the range on one type of drive at a time per battery charge, but how I cycle through it, I've gotten between 22-31 miles per charge, and it only takes 2-4 hours to charge. The bike comes with the back wheel and frame attached, and you have to put on the seat, headlight, reflectors, handlebars, and put on and true the front wheel yourself, which took me less than two hours and I'm hardly handy. The tools come with the kit, which is convenient because my tools are scattered wherever the teenagers I live with left them if they still exist. If you aren't comfortable with assembling the bike yourself, you should ask someone handy, drive it up to you local bike shop for a small fine, or spend a little under a hundred and pay for amazon assembly (but be warned they screw up assembly sometimes, will not own up to it, which is why I no longer use them). What I don't like about this bike. First and foremost, the stock wheels. When you are riding at speeds over 10 mph, you do not want to feel every little (or big) bump and tiny little pebble you ride over, and you do. I put the recommended amount of air in the tires, and a little more, and tires look semi-flat while I ride (I weigh 125 lbs), which is why I constantly stop to check if I'm flat because I also avoid glass, nails, and sharp stones on the streets as well (flats were always the problem with my last bike). It's not. I read a review about pinch flats, which had me concerned, and I see why, which now has me paranoid. It's just another reason I avoid bumps and go slow over curbs. Then there is the quick squeak of back wheel (the motor) that developed on my last trip sometimes when I use the pedal assist I just hope doesn't become a thing, because I like a quiet stealthy bike. Another concern I have is three times when I removed the battery to charge it and placed the charged battery back it has sparked. Nothing too big, and it hasn't impacted functions at all, but it is a concern I have regarding the life of the battery. The bike has a couple of cheap parts, like the mudguard and neck of handlebars but the screws, nuts, and bolts all seem solid for now, which is good, because I worry about stripping. The one thing I really dislike is that so far, there is little to no support from the company that pushes these Hurley and Avalanche out JoyRide Bikes, so that is something to consider. While assembling the bike, I called because I needed to replace a bent hub retaining clip to attach the front wheel. It went straight to the machine no matter when or how many times I called, so I just bought a replacement locally. I tried the website, and went through the tedious process of collecting the proof of purchase info, and put my request down, several times, and still a month later they have not even attempted to contact me, but maybe they will in the future. Riding out in the cold (30-55 degrees), I've seen no difference or significant impact with it's performance. The light is headlight is bright and visible in the dark and can even be angled. And price wise, the woes meet the bill, so I can't complain. Not for an e-bike. If I paid closer to $1000 bucks, I'd be livid, but seeing as I didn't break the bank, it's just been calm shrugs, or I can deal, and it feels okay. This bike looks good, like a bike with a water bottle, is comfortable when the road is smooth, and carries it's weight. It's not high end, but it gets the job it was made for done. Let's first talk about what this product is, at least in my opinion: A Minimum Viable Product. Minimum Viable Products don't have fancy features or doodads. They do precisely what they are supposed to do, simply, and dependably. That's what this bike is, and in that light, my criticisms are pretty light. Value is exceedingly good on this bike. Note that I've added a rack to the back of mine. The Good: The electric drive-train has PLENTY of power. Seeing 500W bikes on the market, I was afraid I was getting something too weak, but that is definitely not the case. 20 MPH operation is pretty easy in the higher assist modes, and 17 mph is easy in the lower assist modes, in an upright riding position, for a low-fitness, overweight person. Packaging was great, everything arrived, and assembly was fairly straightforward (tools are included except for the recommended torque wrench). The tires have confident grip on the pavement, even on wet pavement, and the fenders keep water off the rider for the odd puddle. Five assist levels plus the hand throttle makes for lots of options. Finally, the manual is surprisingly good for advising on maintenance (if it is a little generic for assembly). The Bad: The big things are things I don't think this bike was ever designed for anyway. First, the battery is small-ish at only 36V 5 Ah. That means the bike has 43 minutes of no-pedal operation. It's hard to know exactly what your power usage is, so you might effectively double or triple that. Considering the price of batteries, versus the bike itself, I think this is just something to be aware of going in, not a deal breaker. For more range, you either need another bike or more batteries. Second, the bike is fairly heavy! I really notice versus my aluminum frame bike of about the same configuration. Considering this plus the additional speed of the bike when in e-Bike modes, the V-brakes are sufficient but not ample. Third, this bike is not really for short folk, despite claiming to fit people who are 5'4". Measure your inseam: less than 19" you will need a different seat tube. If you need a different seat tube, you might not be able to add a rear cargo rack that attaches to the tube. Fourth, the handles and seat feel a little cheap. Misc: I had to remove the thin washers for the front V-Brake to be properly spaced, otherwise it rubbed. The electronics say hold 3 seconds to start, but for me, it was more like 10 seconds for the first start. The charger is roughly the size of an old laptop charger (or gaming laptop charger) and outputs 84 W, so expect 2+ hours to charge from empty. You have to lock the battery for it to stay in the holder. The box claims max rider weight of 265 lbs. The cables at the front are a bit long, which I think is mainly to make it easier to ship with them pre-attached. My wife and I have a RAD city 4 and a BLIX e bike. They both were $1,500 each, so I didn't know what to expect from a $600 e bike. Very pleasantly surprised! The bike is beautiful. Nice lines, color and doesn't look like your typical funky e bike design. In fact, it doesn't even look like an e bike at all. 1) POWER- 250 W motor get up to 20 MPH fast however from a stand still, you have to push the bike forward a little to get it going, unlike e bikes with a 500 + Watt motor. 2) QUALITY- It has a lot of plastic parts where more expensive e bike are all metal. It also has old style brakes and no gears. The plus side to this is that its much lighter to handle. It feels cheaper than more expensive e bikes but still doesn't really feel that cheap when not comparing side by side. 3) DELIVERY- You are going to have to make some adjustments. Better to have someone who knows just a little about bike assembly. Someone else mentioned this, and I found it to be true. Also, you will need an air pump. The tires come flat, but they kind of have to. There is a reason why. You'll see why later. 4) RIDE- Feels like your riding a regular bike but with power. Doesn't feel as nice, smooth or stable as a more expensive bike BUT it feels like the regular bike your probably already used to, and ITS ALMOST 1/3 OF THE PRICE! ***OVERALL- We like it. If you don't want to spend a lot of money and you don't live around any hills (250 Watt motor and the fact that it has NO GEARS would not work well with hills), I think this will work for you. (Do plan on buying another seat though. The one it comes with looks nice but is not very comfortable) It's a beautiful bike!
