In summer, a ceiling fan should spin counterclockwise to create a cooling breeze. In winter, set your ceiling fan to spin clockwise at a low speed to help circulate warm air, improve comfort, and support energy efficiency. How do I choose the right ceiling fan size for my room? Choose a ceiling fan based on room size: - Small rooms (up to 100 sq. ft.): 29–36 inches - Medium rooms (100–300 sq. ft.): 42–52 inches - Large rooms (300+ sq. ft.): 54 inches or larger How do you measure a ceiling fan? Ceiling fans are measured by their blade span (diameter) from tip to tip. For fans with an odd number of blades, measure from the center of the fan to one blade tip and multiply by two to determine the full blade span. Do ceiling fans help lower energy costs? Yes, energy efficient ceiling fans help lower energy costs by improving air circulation. In summer, they allow you to raise your thermostat while maintaining comfort. In winter, they help distribute warm air more evenly throughout the room. Where should you use indoor, damp-rated, and wet-rated ceiling fans? Damp-rated fans: In addition to dry space, can be used in covered outdoor areas like porches or bathrooms with moisture. Wet-rated fans: In addition to dry and damp spaces, can be used in fully exposed outdoor areas like patios or pergolas.

  • Best ceiling fan I ever installed.
Color: Brushed Nickel - Brazilian Cherry Size: 52"
What I like. No out of balance shake at all! Completely quiet motor at all speeds. Install was super easy for 1 person. The ceiling mounting bracket installs first and it is designed to hold the motor in place with openings to finish the wiring. I've done other fans that have a cable to dangle the motor while connecting the wiring then stuff all the wires into the box while trying to screw the motor to ceiling. Takes a helper for that style. It came with standard base LED light bulbs which I really like. Not the candle type with tiny base. The light are bright and are a better than the old replaced model with 4 bulbs vs 3 bulbs now. I have separate switches for lights and fan. The bulbs dim to any level I choose. The fan switch is either on or off. I installed the fan pull chain to change fan speeds when needed. I did not install the long chain for the light because the wall switch will do that. One install tip. The main celling bracket will control which direction the Hunter logo on the fan will face. Had I know that I would have turned it 90 degrees so it would have faced the entrance to the room. Not a real big deal because the fan looks so good. The hardest part was the pre install of the rubber grommets into the fan blades. That took time and forcing them would crack the rubber. That didn't seem to matter once it was screwed to the arm but its something to be aware of. There is an extra grommet and screws should you loose or damage one. Not hard, just time consuming. I recommend this fan! ... show more

  • Huge value for the money
Color: Snow White Size: 52"
Arrived quicker than expected. Instructions were superb. Packaging was excellent and all small parts were logically separated according to assembly stages. Overall quality and design are impressive, especially at this price point. First I installed a fan-rated junction box from Home Depot for a safe mounting point to start with (you don’t want to take any shortcuts with a ceiling fan). Then, I took my time installing it to ensure quality results. Had the usual re-reads of the instructions at certain points where it seemed a little tricky (to be expected), but nothing an experienced DIY’er can’t cope with, and the documentation was accurate and got me through those areas. When I threw the switch for the first time I got some wobble on the high setting, but again took my time with the supplied balancing kit to ferret out where the stick-on weights would go, and now there is absolutely no wobble at all at any speed. The fan is super quiet and smooth — such a huge upgrade over the very good freestanding fans we’ve been used to. On the high-speed setting we can hear the air moving a bit, because it’s moving a substantial amount of air, but it is still very quiet. However, on the middle-speed setting it is dead quiet, while still moving an impressive amount of air. This is a bedroom install, so I doubt we’ll go past the middle speed setting, which is absolutely perfect. On an added note, the fan blades were a pleasant surprise (white on one side and beech/maple wood print on the other). Thought the whole thing would be white, but opted for the wood print instead to accentuate the blades and break up the all-white look, and it went well with our Scandinavian furniture. The frosted light shades were a pleasant surprise, too. Not a bit gaudy, thankfully; the whole presentation would actually blend well with just about any decor — not overly modern, but also not overly ornate. Now I’m thinking of repeating this process for our two other bedrooms (offices), which get a lot of direct sun in the afternoon. Definitely opting for this exact same model. Just an excellent product for anyone who is up for installing it correctly. Thank you, Hunter, for producing such a well thought out product at a reasonable price. ... show more

  • Great fan with a few hiccups
Color: New Bronze Size: 52"
First off, after reading some of the other reviews it seems some people may have purchased a different type of fan from Hunter than I did. To clarify, I purchased and received the "Hunter 53327 52" Builder Low Profile New Ceiling Fan with Light, Bronze". The item arrived on time (GO PRIME!) and in good condition. It was well packaged, something I have come to appreciate since purchasing several other items in messy packaging. Some assembly is required! The fan comes in about 10 or so pieces. I began installing the fan and found the instructions to be quite simple to understand. Each step is well explained, and while it warns in the beginning to seek help from an electrician I found that the process was fairly straightforward. It explains, with pictures exactly how to connect the wiring from the roof to that coming from the motor of the fan. One slight mistake I did make during the process and want to point out, the anchor screws/bolts that would be used to attach the fan's anchoring plate to the ceiling outlet ARE NOT included with the package. As the instructions explain, these two screws/bolts should come with the ceiling outlet/plate already installed in the ceiling. I accidently used 2 of the golden screws mixed in with the hardware pack for this purpose, and then felt lost when it called for them later to lock the motor in place. It took me about 30 - 45 minutes to get the fan put together and installed, plus time to remove the old fan that I'm moving to another room.down. For a first-time fan installer, and someone with limited electrical knowledge I found that reasonable. As other buyers have mentioned, the fan does run quietly, I am quite impressed by both the appearance and performance of the unit. CONS: There are three particular things that I have had issues with, and the reason this received 4 stars and not 5... First, the motor is locked into place by two screws that simple slide across it preventing it from coming out. After installation, if you lift the unit from underneath it still feels loose. Perhaps this was intentional, something engineering, or perhaps a design choice to save money...? Second, The piece that comes down to pull, allowing you to control the fan, came off from the beads it was attached to. I was dissapointed in this, but it was most likely a fault in the process for creating the metal knob. (see pics) Third and MOST IMPORTANTLY, after installing the fan I left it to run for awhile to see how it did (lights and fan on). When I came back after a relatively short time and reached up to touch it I realized that the glass surrounding the light bulbs and even the metal frame they're attached into was hot to the touch. Perhaps not burn hot, but hot enough you won't leave your hand on it! I looked the issue up online and found many articles about this same issue on Hunter fans (without even searching for Hunter in the keywords)... Many people also mentioned a burning smell. I found one article that mentioned the light bulbs as the culprit of this excess heat, and the rubber rings around the glass casing for the lights as the source of the smell. Sure enough, I replaced the bulbs that came with the unit with some 40w LED bulbs and the issue seems to have disappeared! :D The unit now works great! Just don't lift it from below for no reason... ... show more

  • Quiet Fan Good Value
Color: New Bronze Size: 52"
This replaced a 5 year old Craftmade that started to make bearing noises. I'm hoping the Hunter lasts longer. I've got other Hunter brand fans that have been going strong for 20 years. We'll see...I spent a lot of time researching quiet fans since this one is in the bedroom. Almost got a DC fan, but AC fans last longer. A well made AC fan is just as quiet as a DC fan. This one is very quiet. Relatively easy to install. I installed mine without the light kit. Instructions were not included for no light kit install, but a quick call to Hunter customer service answered my questions. You do have the necessary parts to install with or without the light kit. ... show more

  • A Strong, Quiet, Beautiful, Awesome Fan!
Color: Snow White Size: 42"
My niece stuck a broom into the 42-in fan destroying one of the blade-holders so we looked for an alternative (however the bearings were going-out). It seemed more-economical and easier to replace the fan than try to access the bearings and replace the blade-holder. This fan wasn’t the cheapest, but it looked elegant and well-made and had a good sell-price. For me it was a 4-hr job standing on the bed and a step-stool and tightening all the parts as well as connecting the wire-nuts to the existing wire. What makes it take so long is trying to get the right angle on the screws when driving them in above your head. I had to take short-breaks from muscle-fatigue. However, I was proud with the results and the high-setting feels like a heavenly-breeze. I still feel a since of pride from installing the fan when I pass that room and sometimes I will lay on the bed in the dark and appreciate the cool, quiet, relaxing-breeze. ... show more
