  • Highly surprised and super thankful I took the chance. Great quality and awesome packing job.
Well, this all started about 3 weeks ago when all of a sudden my wife started getting sick. And then she started to lose her balance. We were thinking that she had a inner ear infection. Well a few days later I went to get a drink from the sink and smelled mold. I'm like what the??? We have been at this property (well water) for over 5 years, and it's always been the very best water in the entire area (admitted by my neighbors). So when I realized we had mold in our well I was shocked. We had just replaced all the plumbing including the pressure switch and pressure tank. So everything was new. So I immediately got on Amazon and started looking for a UV sterilizer. There are a lot to choose from here and most are in the $250-$400 range. I was not ready to pay this much for a UV unit and found this one with no reviews. I was very leery and put it in my list and kept looking. But after almost 4 hours of looking and reading reviews I kept coming back to this one. I finally took the chance and ordered it. I am glad I took the chance. It took two days to get it (Thanks to Prime). I was pretty apprehensive about this, as I knew that there was going to be glass involved and was even more nervous when I opened the first box to find the second one from China. My heart sank and I really thought I had just got taken. But I steadied myself and opened the next box. And this is when every bad thought that ran through my head took a flying leap. I cannot begin to tell you how well this item was packaged. I really wish I had taken the time to take some pictures but since I did not I will describe it to you. Everything is wrapped and double wrapped in heavy duty air bags and bubble wrap. The main case of the light is polished Stainless Steel and is very large ( almost 3 feet). It comes with two bulbs and one quartz protection tube. All three were wrapped with bubble wrap and then inside was three hard cardboard tubes that were also bubble wrapped inside to protect the glass. This level of protection would pretty much save this box from most of the damage it could receive during shipping. The instructions are pretty easy to understand but you need to be extra careful when putting the two gaskets on each end of the quartz tube when inserting it in the main body. Don't let them roll and twist, make sure they are flat against the metal so as to get a good seal. At first I was worried about clearances as the quartz tube gets sealed in the unit on both ends with screw on caps, but it was for not. Everything went together perfectly. Once the quartz tube is sealed up there is a hole on one end that the UV bulb slides into. Then you just hook up the ballast wire connection and slide the cap over it. I used a black zip tie to help keep out the moisture. I then hooked it up to a 3 stage filter system and let it rip. We also sterilized our well with a gallon of bleach and we let the whole thing run for two days before hooking up the filter system. Then after the filter UV system was hooked up we ran it for another full 24 hours before drinking. It was worth every penny. It has been a week now and my wife is feeling much better and the water no longer smells like mold. In fact it has no taste at all. It's clean and great to drink. We even run our swamp cooler through the UV part just to keep the evaporated water from being able to expel anything. This is a high quality UV light Sterilizer and worth every penny I paid for it. Not all come with a extra bulb and none of them come at this price with a extra bulb. The ballast unit has two lights on it, one green and the other red. These indicate the condition of the ballast and the bulb. They both stay on when everything is working right. It's nice to see at a glance that the unit is working as it should. At night you can see the UV light glow through our water hose : ) So buy with peace of mind. I did not get this item at any discount or for free. I purchased this with my own money and took a chance. Now you can buy without those issues and perhaps this seller can make a living selling a good quality product. ... show more

We installed this the same time we installed a whole house iron filter. We have well water and between the two, water quality is so much better. Product was easy to install and seems to be working well.

  • Great quality product!
Been running this for a couple years now. So far so good, no leaks, no bacteria. The only issue is the same as a lot of people have experienced. The ballast powering the unit has already failed. I recommend upgrading it to QUA-EBS51-425-40L which works really well for this unit and seems to be more sturdily built. Customer service from HQUA had been phenomenal, they were willing to discount me on a new ballast, and having learned I just upgraded, refunded me a small discount on the upgraded ballast as well. I am super pleased and hope the new ballast lasts much longer! ... show more

  • Easy-Peasy to install
This was super easy to install, and the item is durable and very reasonably priced. This is an excellent value!! UV is one of the best ways to disinfect poor well-water. I use this along with 175 ML of 12% hydrogen peroxide daily for excellent clean, clear, pure well water. If you have smelly well water, use UV and H2O2 at the proper strength. You will be amazed! ... show more

  • Had some issues but great to work with
I installed mine a year ago and have had a few issues but would definitely recommend. First off, install with a LOT of Teflon tape. I went to plastic fittings because I've had issues going to brass from steel and I have taken it apart twice to get the leaks to stop and what finally did it was putting on a lot of Teflon tape. Once I did that, haven't had an issue with leaks since. When I first installed it, the power supply was broke. The company immediately shipped me two new ones. About a month in, the first bulb burnt out so I installed the second that came with it. About a month later, it to burnt out. I contacted them and they found the power supplies were causing issues, asked me to try the other new one I had got and sure enough it worked. So they shipped me a new style of power supply that fixed that issue and both bulbs worked for another few months. I contacted them to find new bulbs so I would get the right ones and due to the power supply issues, they are sending me new bulbs at no extra cost. It has been a bit of a hassle but they have been awesome to work with, usually respond within a day, and the UV light works great with the updated power supply. ... show more

  • Great customer service, product works at an affordable price (update 6/2/2020)
6/2/20 Update: The ballast failed on me, but I reached out to customer service, and they promptly shipped me a new one plus a spare at no cost. I was only down a couple days thanks to their speedy service and shipping. The customer service for this product alone makes this product continue to deserve the 5-star rating! I would still highly recommend this to anyone looking for a UV filtration system. You won't be disappointed with the filter itself or the outstanding customer service that comes with it. Original review: I had estimates anywhere between $1,200 and $1,600 for a well company to install a sediment and UV filter for my well. It was contaminated with coliform and declared unsafe for consumption even after a chlorination, so the UV filter was the next step. Given the estimates I received, I decided to do it on my own. After a great deal of research, I settled on this product due to the price point and good reviews. I was not disappointed! The filter came packaged well with decent instructions. I had some plumbing experience and decided to do the install on my own. It took me two weekends to complete, but only because of my own slowness and inexperience. A plumber probably could have had everything installed in half a day. I purchased two dupont whole house filters to create a two-stage sediment filter ahead of the UV filter. I accidentally broke the quartz sleeve while installing the UV filter, and I contacted the seller. James replied almost immediately and had two replacements in the mail for me, no questions asked. After finally getting everything set up, we sent a new water sample to the lab, and it came back safe to drink finally! Overall, I spent about an extra $250 on the additional plumbing and sediment filter pieces I needed to complete the project. So for under $500, I had a perfect filtration system that the well companies were charging $1,200-1,600 for. I highly recommend going this route, even if you have to hire a plumber to do the install. ... show more

  • Check the transformer!
I bought and installed one over two years ago and honestly, it was a great deal. Fast forward a year later and I swap the light bulb (comes with a spare) and the removal of the glass tube to clean is a bit of work so I opted to get a second entire kit to be able to do this at my leisure and get a couple of extra bulbs. Seemed cost-effective. So notice there's a change in the transformer and after checking my existing bulb I know why. My UV bulb was not lighting and the transformer was out. Not sure about you but I don't check the little light but the new transformer has an audible alarm when the bulb isn't lighting. Nice! So I have no idea how long the previous transformer was out and/or how many hours on that bulb. Without knowing it's a complete waste at this point. ... show more

  • Low end unit but does the job
I think the product is great for the money and includes an extra UV bulb. I had purchased another brand years past and it had an audible alarm and day counter vs just a LED indicator when the bulb needs changed or had quit.. The plastic end cap that holds the bulb in place is not sized correctly and that is a 1 out of five. I used a zip tie to hold it in. The most difficult part of the install is using copper pipe to avoid UV damage to plastic pipe and the filter. That said, any UV system has that issue. Instructions were confusing indicating Left end vs Right end as I don't see where there is a difference at all. ... show more

  • UPDATE: Ballast failure within six months of installation
After writing the review below and contacting HQUA they were extremely helpful and sent me a new ballast which I received a day later. The new ballast was definitely and upgrade and manufactured with a lot more attention to the environment where the filters and the equipment are located. Iv'e had it installed for a month and so far so good! Excellent company and great customer service. This uv filter is a simple install and relatively easy hook up to our whole home water filter system. Once we had it hooked up it was a relief to be able to drink out of our faucets again and even, with the help of the filtration system, hook up our ice maker. Have checked on the filters once a month and today heard an alarm in filter closet where the UV light is hooked up. Looked to see what the problem was and the cord to the outlet was disintegrated. The other electronic device (softener) was fine and I could see no signs of power surge or faulty circuitry from the outlet. After investigating a little I found that this was not an uncommon occurrence with this particular filter. I would have give this company five stars for their customer service and the quick response time but, in this case, and unless they have made significant changes to the ballast--steer clear of this one. ... show more

  • It Arrived Intact!
I have to say, they package this VERY well! It just arrived today and intact, so that is why the initial review is only 4-stars. Will be installing this later in the week and will update to 5-stars if all is OK with ballast and lamps. Side note: I read one of the reviews where someone used PEX right up to the connection point the threads. DO NOT USE PEX TO CONNECTION POINTS!!!! as research tells me that PEX is NOT UV resistant for a long period of time (6+ mos) and it will break down and you are likely to end up with a flood! I will be installing with Copper and unions, each about 12" from the connection point as it called out in the manual (10" min). If you don't know how to properly sweat copper, then get a plumber and do it right please. Will update this review once I get it installed and know all is working as it should be. ... show more
