  • Nice nvme but needs support.
Color: 512GB
I installed this HP Ex950 in a Asus rog Gl503vs, the laptop came with a Sata m.2 and sshd drive. I wanted fast as possible and larger main drive so went with this HP Ex950. Install was simple, I cloned my m.2 ssd to the sshd, then installed the hp ex950 and cloned the os to the hp nvme. Reformatted the sshd and all was great, boot time is now 9 seconds. The 512gb ex950 states 3,500 and 2,000 read write speed. I did numerous tests and all I am getting is 2,735 and 1,940. I see older ex920 nvme getting 3,000 so I know something is off. The HP ex950 does not come with any software or info how to get software like driver updates. The 950 I am not getting in speed is like a ssd Sata speed, instead of 6+ times the Sata m.2, mine is about 5x so it is kind of disappointing. Under the nvme win10 says best driver installed, but date on driver is from 2006. I found drivers on MultiPointe website that has the HP 920 and 950 drivers and 920 firmware. But I am confused on how to install it. I attempted to update the drivers with these and my first attempt the ex950 would not boot up, went to blue win screen and nothing I tried could get me back into windows, so I just re cloned the original m.2 ssd. I believe this nvme can do stated speeds, I seen speed tests that say this ex950 is overall fastest nvme available right now, but no customer support is bad. This EX950 I can't even find on HP website. If I fix the drivers I will update this review. I would not say not to buy this, but can't give 5 stars due to poor support. Every other manufacturer has ssd tool software. The speeds I am getting are Fast, don't get me wrong, just a little more like advertised and I would be happy. Now price vs performance this is probably the best deal out there for a nvme m.2 out there. I can live with a little slower speeds and honestly in real every day use I might not even notice a the lower speed, but if you buy something that claims one thing and you see another, I expect what the claim is(at least close to claimed speeds), if HP would update drivers using the HP update software it would sell much more of these. Never understood a company that puts so much into making a great product and ruins it by not providing a simple way to update or get info. Is like HP just made this nvme and forgot they manufactured it. This is supposed to be the fastest mvme out there currently along with the adata using simular chipset. ... show more

  • Great and fast NVMe drive. Speeds are as expected.
Color: 1TB
This NVMe SSD is faster than my Samsung 970 Pro, or at the very least on par with it and it's much cheaper! I love it. I attached screenshots of both drives in CDM for comparison. In real world you really wouldn't tell any difference between the two, NVMe SSDs and their speeds nowadays are more than enough for most people. I am just happy this SSD seems reliable and looks like it will last long. Good one HP/Silicon Motion. ... show more

  • Performance comparable to Samsung 970 EVO Plus at almost Half the Price
Color: 2TB
Unbelievable bang for the buck on this purchase of latest gen3 PCIe x4 3D NAND 2TB ssd for just $320 with 5 year warranty compared to Samsung 970 evo (non plus) at $500. (970 evo plus 2TB is not available yet). Wickedly fast speeds are just a tiny bit slower in Crystal Diskmark compared to my 970 evo plus 1TB. Not noticable in everyday use or gaming. (screenshots) Only downfall is no real consumer support like software for data migration, testing or setup like Samsung Magician or technical support. Technical support is listed as not covered under the 5 Year limited warranty. The drive is Branded HP, warranty is technically backed by HP but is in reality a Multipointe Channel Solutions product the exclusive HP SSD distributor in North America. The drive is actually manufactured by BIWIN Inc in Shenzhen, China. Firmware updates and NVME drivers come from Multipointe not from HP. Excellent performing drive for price, highly recommended I don't understand why these Silicon Motion SM2262EN based ssds are more popular or widespread. ... show more

  • Not an authentic HP Product
Color: 2TB
This SSD drive turned out to be the cause of a lot of trouble and days of wasted time. While it did fail when an HP tech replaced the motherboard on my Z4 workstation. I don't blame the device, I think it was a mistake by the tech. So I don't put that on the product. However, there are some issues with this device that you should take into account. 1. It is NOT an authentic HP product. It is possibly an OEM partner with rights to use HP branding on it's label. If not I don't know how this is allowed to be sold. When calling for HP support they will tell you as much. 2. It is produced and warrantied by a company called Multipointe 3. They covered the warranty and it is being replaced. 4. In my case, this part was incompatible with the Premium front panel USB C port. With the SSD installed it halts the system and gives a false indication that the USB-C port firmware failed an update. The HP tech and myself never considered the SSD being the issue because of the label. It wasn't until I had the MB, CPU and Front Panel replaced and we still witnessed the error that we took into account the SSD drive. As with any PC hardware certain combinations of hardware can cause issues, but this one certainly had not been tested with my particular setup. Buyer beware. ... show more

  • Two mouth later this SSD will make you cry!
Color: 2TB
Using this SSD in the beginning, as a NVMe SSD the R/W speed I would like to say is just ok. However after two mouth use its became super slow! Very bad SSD. Waste money on it. Should buy a samsung 970 evo even its much more expensive!

  • 3200MB/sec on linux!
Color: 1TB
amazing speed. hdparm -t /dev/nvme... yields 3200. normal sata is about 550. this has 2 leds below the label, too; not sure what's different but they blink at different rates when disk is being accessed. if its under a heatsink, you'd never know ;)
