Description

In 1969, Douglas G. Howard set out to solve this dilemma: how can you eliminate blemishes in wood finishes and restore the original color and luster without removing any of the existing finish? Unable to find an answer at his local hardware store, he went to work in his garage to create his own product. His goal was to make something that would be much more than a surface treatment, yet nothing like a stripper or a refinisher. The key was to develop a formula that could clean and polish the surface, penetrate the finish with stain, and leave the original finish intact. The end result was Restor-A-Finish, Doug Howard's first in what would become a complete line of wood care products. For over 40 years, Howard's Restor-A-Finish has been a standard in the antique industry. Because Restor-A-Finish preserves the original wood finish it also helps preserve its authenticity and value, whereas stripping the finish may literally strip the piece of its value. Almost any existing wood tone, from a Birdseye Maple to a Jacobean, can be closely matched using one of the nine available finish colors. Trying it on just about everything with a traditional wood finish, antique dealers, refinishers, and homemakers have found it to be a safer and easier alternative to stripping and refinishing. Scratches, oxidation, white heat rings, watermarks, smoke damage, and sun fade simply disappear. • Great product to make older wood furnishing look new again!
Size Name: 8 oz Color: Golden Oak
I tried Howard Products' Golden Oak Restor-A-Finish on an old table and I'm impressed with the results! The product was easy to apply, and the finish came out looking great, as if the piece had just been polished and restored. This product was able to revive the dull and worn finish on my table, which had been left untouched for years. I'm pleased to see that it didn't just cover up scratches and scuffs, but it actually restored the wood to its original beauty. I do want to mention that this is the 2nd time I've purchased this product and I've been using it for a few months now, and found that it works best when reapplied monthly to maintain the nice finish. I recommend Howard Products' Golden Oak Restor-A-Finish to restore any older wooden furniture. ... show more

  • Wow!
Size Name: 8 Fl Oz (Pack of 1) Color: Maple-Pine
This product is amazing! We have dogs that get excited and scratch the garage door when we get home. We also bought a house where the prior owner was in a wheel chair. The doors and door frames were all scraped horribly. I thought we'd have to replace them but this makes them look great again. It's been months since I applied it. The results have slightly faded over time but are still good and I'm sure another treatment would have it looking great again. ... show more

  • Worked well - cabinets look new
Size Name: 8 oz Color: Cherry
This product worked well. My cabinets are almost 10 years old and a little worn. This helped refresh them.

  • Magic in a can
Size Name: 8 oz Color: Golden Oak
Incredible stuff. My bathroom golden oak trim was covered with white water spots and the doors on the vanity were absolutely terrible after 22 years of use. A simple wipe on of this product made them look brand new again, I can't recommend it. Highly enough

  • Great Product for Refreshing Wood Finishes
I've been using Howard's for years, it's a great product to refresh and rejuvenate furniture, window and door jambs and more. Easy to apply and use, low odor and covers many scratches and wear without havinng to rrefinish. I have several different colors which can be found at the big box stores, but I needed the Ebony which I could only find here. So the only "bump" is, this is a smaller can than the regular size you find in the stores, but they usually only have 3 color choices. ... show more

  • Experience from this Restor-A-finish, English Oil and 2 different brands of wax on cabinets...
So yeah I've used a few products to try to "refinish" my orangey looking cabinets/ furniture and I'd like to share my experience. 1. Howard citrus wax in dark oak- while it did darken or make my cabinets look better, it's not easy to use. Like it'd leave streak marks onto the cabinets even I cleaned them thoroughly and wiped the wax into the direction of the wood grain with finest steel wool. So from my experience, that was just a so so product. (3-3.5 stars at most) 2. Fiddes & Son wax in Espresso- MUCH easier to use than Howard citrus wax. Also dries much better and does not leave as much streak mark as Howard citrus wax. It also does not smell bad. The thing is the wax dries really fast and you will have to hurry up and buff. I also discovered my left over half can of wax hardened after some time when I opened it again (yes that was my 2nd can!). But if you want to "darken" your cabinets for a bit, I think this works the best among all products I tried. So 4 stars! 3. English oil for dark wood- very easy to use and smells good. Just wipe it on and it'll cover light scratch marks if you rub it on that area. Also very economical . Doesn't darken wood a lot but I somehow (don't know if it's my illusion) after a few days the wood seems to have darken on my table legs. So for a fast, economical "refinish" I think this fits the bill. I did add protection with Goddard's spray on furniture oil and the cabinets appear to be shiny and nicer afterwards. So 4 stars! 4. THIS product- It stinks but not too bad. The thing is I did notice it works almost the same as English Oil.... so not that big of a difference--- cover light scratches and thats about it. But this product smells worse and costs more. Also if you want to darken your furniture a bit. I don't think this works... English Oil works slightly better IMO. So I kind of regret I tried another Howard product (yes all of their products have excellent reviews though...) Maybe I'm out of luck on this brand? I'd give it 3 stars. ... show more

  • Makes the wood look like new!
Size Name: 8 oz Color: Golden Oak
I got this because some of our wood doors and trim had scratches or were badly faded, especially the inside of the bathroom doors. It was very easy to apply, and it made the finish look like new. It's been a year since I used it, and the wood likes just like it did a year ago. I'm very impressed with this product. If you're thinking you have to strip and stain the wood to make it look good, try this first. It will save you time and money! ... show more
