This scooter box says 8+ but my very small for his age 4 year old is big enough to use it. He has a 3 wheel lean scooter already and took a very short time to get used to this. So overall this is pretty beginner friendly. There are some design choices that seemed a little strange to me, but might be good for you. The wheel lights go on by themselves, just by rolling. Eventually the wheel gets dirtier and scuffed so the lights are less clear, but you can see them still. There are lights around the bottom of the standing platform and the front handlebar vertical beam that requires batteries. The batteries are on the bottom. I'm not so sure it'll handle standing water very well so I'd recommend doing whatever I can to avoid water. Also the lights are separate LEDs, not like what most people would consider RGB. So there are a few different modes of light flashing and stuff, but it's alternating LEDs. Not a huge deal there, but not the fanciest execution. You also have to turn it on and switch flashing speed/modes from a button on the bottom of the scooter. So, this isn't something you can change during your ride; you'll have to stop and reach underneath to change modes. The standing platform also came with some white-ish stress marks so the plastic is not the strongest there. It has griptape and a standing area length roughly the size of a US adult male size 8 shoe. Also, the turning of the front wheel is a little crunchy. You can sort of feel the teeth/gears as it rotates. My kid didn't mind, but something to keep in mind. So overall, the scooter works well as a scooter. The extras definitely add some value like for safety at night. But the execution isn't really great. The lighting button at the bottom is a weird choice. The material of choice for the standing platform is also a bit of a weird choice since plastic would eventually get brittle or something. BUT, my kid loves it. He doesn't ask to ride his fairly expensive 3 wheel lean scooter anymore. So given that it's for kids, and their happiness is what matters...it gets a 3.5 star rounded to 4. ... show more

This is the perfect scooter for a preschooler! Easy to assemble, easy to adjust the handlebar height, and super fun color/light. It folds down easy and seems like it is good from maybe late toddler to early elementary size child.

This scooter was easy to assemble, but there is a push-button to set the height of the handles. The second time it was pushed to adjust the height, the spring-loaded button disappeared into the tube and could not be retrieved. Also, the lights in the wheels don't work. Otherwise, the scooter seems durable enough, rolls very smoothly, had good grip tape, and the kids like it. ... show more
