Update: one of the lights didnt work upon install, customer service was fantastic and got a new light out to me within a few days, installed and works just fine. Wind howling would start at about 25mph and stayed the same at highway speeds. I installed a 1/16 inch trim edge seal with bulb (about 8 dollars) along the entire front of the bottom of the wind deflector. Wind howl doesn’t start until about 35mph and is drastically reduced. Super sturdy, the lights do not add any extra wind noise either. Looks great, only con is the instructions could be a little more clear Upon delivery. The fedex dude was pretty upset to be moving a 62lb box. I met him at the truck with a dolly so he didnt end up slamming it on my driveway. The box had some decent gouges in it. I assumed it would be chipped or scratched but the coating held up nicely. (Might be a sign the coatings decent). It went together decently. Use the website for instructions. They are just a tad bit more clear than the thumbnail pictures on the paper that comes in the box. Took about an hour to put on. You just need two allen wrenches and a 13mm wrench. The slats have prewelded nuts on them. The packaging came with extra. Im assuming earlier models didnt have this and they didnt update the hardware bag. The wind howling is expected. People who say its unbearable are the ones who blindly installed something they knew nothing about. Seems very sturdy, im gonna take it off and use loctite on the bolts this weekend. And put some black RTV over the cab roof mount points to prevent any random leaks. Im not sure if those threaded holes go all the way into the cab or if they are sealed. Will update this in a week or two if anything changes. 4/5 for the obnoxious directions ... show more

  • Heavy Duty Roof Rack - Great Value
First, understand that this rack is heavy-duty and super-sturdy. You may be surprised with the weight of the box when it is delivered. :-) I installed this on may 2006 Tacoma yesterday and am very happy with the way it turned out. It took me about 4 hours to complete the installation by myself. The installation instructions are difficult to follow because the photos are too small. But they do give you an idea of the general order of how things should be installed. Here are some extra tips that will make installation easier: ~Use a ladder or stool (I had one on each side of the truck) ~Do NOT tighten ANY bolts until you are done installing the entire rack. ~The brackets that mount to the roof are a little tricky to mount because bolt holes on the mount are a really close to the bend on the bracket. When I mounted the brackets to my roof there wasn't enough room for the washers - so I had to cut the washers down with a Dremel tool so they would fit. ~The cross-bars are all different lengths so they need to be installed in order. They have small holes drilled in them to indicate the order. 1 hole = the front crossbar; 2 holes = second crossbar, etc ~If you are going to install weather stripping on the valence it is much easier to install before you mount the valence on the truck. I used 1/16" Edge, Trim Seal with Top Bulb. This helps prevent wind noise by allowing you to set the valence tight against the roof. ~If you have a new truck with no scratches I would recommend getting a second person to help. The front valence is pretty dang heavy and if you do it by yourself you will need to set it down on the roof to get it into position. Overall I am very happy with the roof rack. No major complaints from me except the brackets that mount the rack to the roof are not a perfect fit - and the instructions could be a lot better. Looking forward to mounting a retractable awning and mounting some tracking boards. ... show more

  • Great Value
The only reason for not rating installation higher is that the instructions are too vague. A YouTube video is more helpful. The only real negative at all is that wind noise is obviously going to increase. I knew that having had a similar rack on another truck, but I've known some to be disappointed because they didn't expect it. ... show more

  • Great Rack for the Price
I ordered this rack looking for something that would be sturdy, but also give my truck the off road look I was going for. This rack delivered both of those. It only took about 2 hours to install, and was really easy to mount on the top of the truck. Saying this as a girl who has limited experience with cars, I was very happy with how straight forward it was to install. The only issue I had is that the front fairing was bent when I got it, causing it to touch the top of my truck when I installed it. I took it off the rack, wrapped it in a shop rag, laid it flat on the ground and was able to hammer the bent edge straight with no issue, so now the rack sits nicely across the front of the truck. The longest part to install were the lights on the front of the roof rack, as the wiring took a little bit of time. We ended up buying a wiring harness with two leads, and wired two lights into each lead, and it works perfectly, and looks great. All in all, I think this is a great option for the price, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. ... show more

  • Tough,easy install, very road noisy,like a jet
It's very nice and real sturdy, but when driving down the road it sounds like there's a jet overhead the entire time

  • Amazing roof rack for tacoma!
Extremely pleased with this roof rack! I bought it expecting alot less considering how much it cost. Rack came in good packaging and didn't have any parts missing or damaged. I only had one hickup with installation and that was from a defect on the mounting points on the truck itself, aside from that It was very easy to install (with 2 people). There are no numbers cutouts on side of rack anymore and all hardware is black to match so it looks like this company actually listens to feedback! Only minor negative I can think of is it adds a little bit of wind noise when traveling 40+ MPH. It's not terrible though so it may not be an issue for some people. I bought some bulb stripping to see if that can cut it down some. I ended up using 2 of the lights as ditch lights rather than mount them on the rack. They arnt ridgid LED but let's be honest your basically getting 4 freebie LED's and they arnt bad lights for free lights. All said and done this is an amazing roof rack and I highly recommend it! ... show more
