I have sold this Honeywell thermostat without the Wi-Fi feature to several commercial customers and have not had any issues with them. They are all still functioning well and performing the tasks for which they are designed, controlling rooftop commercial HVAC units. I love the easy tech setup via the touch screen and the amount of features it has gives me the ability to install it on many different types of systems. This Wi-Fi version is a nice upgrade that gives the ability to monitor and control the thermostat from off site locations. Some business customers who manage multiple locations will find this option invaluable. I purchased this Wi-Fi enabled thermostat to install in a home that I have under remodel. It has proven to be just as robust, feature rich and reliable as the non Wi-Fi version and I could not be more pleased with it. Setup was easy via the touch screen tech setup menu, as with the non Wi-Fi version, and the pale blue back light is more pleasing on the eyes than the green or amber lights of most touch screen thermostats. Honeywell makes a few versions of this thermostat and you need to know what type of system you are wanting to control with it before you buy. For example, if you have a 1 heat and 1 cool system such as an electric or gas furnace and a regular air conditioner then you would purchase the Honeywell TH8110R1008 Vision Pro 8000. For more options like a heat pump system with electric or gas backup heat you would purchase one with 2 heat and 1 cool or the one I am reviewing here, the TH8321WF1001, which has 3 heat and 2 cool options. Either way you cannot go wrong as long as you understand what type of system you are controlling. A few more pluses to this thermostat are the 7 day programming, the auto switchover function and the remote sensor hookups. You have the choice of using the programing ability or using it as a set it and forget it thermostat, which means that you are not forced to program a thermostat or press the "hold" button every time you need to change the temperature set points. You can use remote sensors on this thermostat and control the temperature based on the reading from another room where the remote sensor is installed. You can install a remote outside temp sensor to stop a heat pump from operating when it is too cold outside. You can even install a humidity sensor inside and use the humidity control feature of this thermostat to keep the humidity level from getting too high inside. Probably the most impressive feature though has to be the auto switch over ability. The auto switchover feature lets the you set heating set points and cooling set points and the thermostat will automatically switch from heating to cooling as needed according to your set points, no need to manually change your system from heating to cooling on those warm spring days or back to heating that same night when the temperature drops to the low 50's. This feature is so handy I wonder why thermostat makers do not included it in all of their products. Pros: Reliable, easy to setup, pleasing to look at and feature rich in an affordable thermostat. Cons: You must have a common wire from your furnace to power this thermostat, this thermostat has no battery compartment and uses the furnace transformer for power. It is highly recommended to have this thermostat installed by a professional for this reason and to properly program the tech functions to match your heating and cooling system. I have been pleased with this thermostat and highly recommend it to anyone wanting a feature rich and reliable thermostat to control a variety of heating and cooling systems.

Millennials love the Nest. I'm not sure why. It looks like an over-sized golf ball on the wall to me. Many people like the Nest because of the programmable thermostat functions. Many do not realize that this feature has been available in many thermostats since the late 80's! The only feature Nest had over other thermostats 5 years ago was the Wifi control. Enter the Honeywell 8000 series. The 8000 series has a high end look. It looks and feels like a thermostat in a high end home, not one found in a college tech dorm. In addition to all of the same features as the Nest, there are two big features where the 8000 series wins: 1) Dehumidifier control. Do you and your spouse fight over the temperature control? My wife and I did. Why? I hate humidity. She likes warmth. For the first time in our marriage, we've found a temperature balance. I run the thermostat at 74, but it is smart enough to keep the humidity between 45-60%. How? Once you configure the thermostat with the desired temperature and humidity, it will work to create a balance between the two. You might be tweaking for a week or two, but once set, it's perfect! Wait, you don't have a dehumidifier? You do! Your A/C is a dehumidifier. It will cycle your A/C to control humidity yet monitor temperature control so you don't freeze. If you have external dehumidifier or humidifiers, it can optionally control that too. 2) It has a smarter schedule control. For example, we have our heat set to 65 overnight and 70 by 6:30a when we wake up. Most thermostats will attempt to make 70 beginning at 6:30a and it might not be until 7 before it gets there. The 8000 will ensure that your home is 70 at 6:30a by learning over the first few weeks how long it takes for your home to increase/decrease temperature based on indoor and outdoor conditions. Pretty smart! 3) It has a fan cycle function so the fan only will run 35% of the time the unit would otherwise not run just to keep the air moving in your home. All of these are optional features that can be turned on or off. Some other added features are the outdoor temperature and humidity display (via internet), of course wifi control on a webpage or Apple/Android app, and the ability to send you emails if the indoor temperatures or humidity exceed minimum or maximum thresholds. This requires a "C" wire. What does that mean? In short, count your wires in your current thermostat. Do you have 5? Is one of the wires connected to a "C" terminal? If so, you're set. The C wire allows the thermostat to be powered from your furnace. As a result, your thermostat does not require batteries. If you currently have 4 wires or 4 wires and a battery, you will need a HVAC technician to wire the 5th wire. Chances are your wiring already has it within the wire (just not used) and unless you have a furnace that was made in 1960, your furnace is capable as well. It just needs to be connected. Neither of my units had it, but I grabbed the unused wire and connected it myself to the "C" contact on the furnace and now I'm good. If you're not confident, have an HVAC tech do it. You're already saving $150 dollars over a Nest, use $75 of it for a tech. Finally, there is a red light indicator to tell you when something's wrong, such as your filter needs to be changed, it's calling for cooling or heat but the furnace is not responding, etc. The 9000 series you find at best buy just adds a color background, is higher priced, and it's not as responsive as the 8000. The 9000 is Honeywell's answer to the Nest. Save your money.

I purchased this to replace my single stage cooling thermostat that was hooked up to my Trane dual stage cooler. (Don’t know why the HVAC company did this.) This unit is attached to my Trane XL19i Cooler and my matched heater. I am not a “pro” installer and there are warnings all over the box that if this unit is not installed by a “pro” it voids the warranty. Don’t let this stop you from purchasing this unit, because it is an awesome unit. It was no different to install than any other thermostat other than it requires a “C” common wire. This unit requires this because it does not have batteries. I installed the unit using 7 wires. I have a 2 stage heat and 2 stage cool. (4 wires) A fan wire (1 wire) and the positive and negative-common wire (2 wires). Took me about 20 minutes, but I also traced all the wires to make sure they were hooked up correctly to my outside AC and heater. They were not, as my 2 stage system was installed and jumper wired as a 1 stage system. You probably will not have this problem. During the initial setup you choose all of your options and it askes a lot of questions about your system and how you want it setup, including if you would like to connect to wifi or external temperature sensors. It has a program assist that will set up specific programming times based on questions that you answer and works really well. I would normally be the type of person who wanted to program it myself, but Honeywells’ program assist was easy and quick to use. When connected to WIFI you can go only to Honeywells site and setup or change any settings from there. I also downloaded the application for my smart phone and can control the temperature from anywhere and adjust the programming times if I need. This is a great feature. One other feature I really like, in the settings menu you can select “system status” and it will tell you exactly what is going on. I know if I am running 1st or 2nd stage heating or cooling, if the fan is on auto, or recirculating (on 30% of the time randomly when not heating/cooling) etc. etc. Finally the display not only shows you the temperature setting, and current indoor temperature and humidity, but if you are connected to wifi it automatically shows the outside temperature and humidity. I give this product 5 stars only because I can’t give it 6!

Installed very easily. I'm using this with a single furnace single AC system. This can control multiple but seems complex. I went with this over the lower models because it already had wifi and did't require the Honeywell gateway to connect to the internet. Once you register the system online with Honeywell, you can then download the app or control the thermostat from a web browser. Very easy to control. Hopefully it will work with the home automation system that I choose in the near future. The only downfall is that if you want remote sensors in bedrooms or other levels of the house, you have to run wiring. No wireless indoor sensors are available. Also, there is only one remote sensor input which means that all of the sensors have to be tied together. You cannot measure the the temp of each remote sensor separately. The indoor sensors are just small resistors and have to be wired together very specifically to accurately tell the average temperature of the combined rooms. Depending on the amount of sensors you have, you may have to wire them in series, parallel, or a combination of both. It can be very confusing if you do not have a background in circuits. So, because the thermostat doesn't have multiple sensor inputs, you could possibly have an issue if you have a sensor in a cold room and a sensor in a warm room. The thermostat will average them and think those rooms are fine. You are then stuck with adjusting the room's dampening vents by how the room feels instead of accurate temperature readings. I bought three sensors, because I had three bedrooms upstairs, and decided to return one after reading how difficult it was going to be to run wiring between the sensors to make sure they are both in parallel and in series. Check out the wiring diagrams on the manual http://siglercommercial.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/HONEYWELL_REMOTE_SENSOR_C7189_INSTALL.pdf I decided to install two sensors and will adjust the air vents based on feel for each room. It should do the same thing and keep the rooms very comfortable, just more manual effort. For this reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5. Give us a total of three remote sensor inputs, as most people have three bedrooms or three separate zones they want to monitor, and it is easily a 5 star thermostat.

5/2019 - This unit doesn't have the sizzle of consumer oriented units with their color LCD displays or fancy graphics. What it does have is functions that take advantage of Honeywell's decades of control system experience. This thing can do anything. Heatpump combined with a coil secondary - no problem. Humidistat based dehumidifyer, No problem. This is an unsexy thermostat that can do whatever you need. It just works. Also. the non "professional install only" thermostats have these fragile friction lock connectors for the thermostat wire. These pro versions have very sturdy set screws to hold the wires. That is reason enough to buy one of these. 2/2026 - Since my original review, I have purchased 4 more of these for myself and relatives. Installation has always gone smoothly, other than when a 3rd party vendor sent me an oooollllddddd version of this unit. If your thermostat has 2 rows of large prongs sticking out the back, where it makes connection to the mounting panel, you have received an ANCIENT version. Return it immediately. The model made for the last several years has a small micro connector about the 1/2 inch by 1/8 inch for the electrical connection between the thermostat and the mount plate. All of the installs and configurations have gone smoothly with the correct unit. This product is 100% dialed in. It uses the dated, unsexy, but very stable Total Connect Comfort app. Not the First Alert app. This is a good thing. I want reliability, not constant updates and new features. Installation is not for the faint of heart. You need to be able to turn the tiny screws and the configuration menu on start up asks a lot of questions that will require some research if you don't understand HVAC terminology. With that said, this is the best thermostat you can buy in my humble opinion.

Great product. I have two in my primary home and put this unit in a new build apartment. Easy installation and great phone support if you have any questions. I have a heat pump and called customer service just to confirm the correct wiring. I did have an issue but it was not the thermostat's problem and I mentioned it in case it happens to someone else. My HVAC installers put in a cheap thermostat and that is why I replaced it with this one. However, the way the initial install was performed, it caused the unit to run the heat when the air was turned on. I called my installers and a quick change in the initial programming fixed everything. I just added this unit to my current app and now I can see and control all three thermostats from one location on my phone.

This model has been on my system for almost ten years before losing WiFi access. I have ordered three over the last few weeks with the following results. 1. My fault, ordered on with Red Line, a mistake on my part, returned and refunded with no issues. 2. The correct unit came, package unsealed, contained box, severely damage and product obviously opened and repackaged. The first unit came with four AAA batteries and a paper tab blocking the interior small battery. This had neither, so the first purchaser must have kept batteries and tried unit. 3. This unit arrived with a red security piece of tape surrounding box. Battery situation the same as above and will be returning. Honeywell products seem to be quality, distribution and re-distribution of contractors, not so good.

The Honeywell TH8321WF1001 Touchscreen Thermostat WiFi Vision Pro 8000 is a good thermostat for many HVAC systems. It appeared to be a factory fresh, sealed-package item. It has been working for us for several months. It is listed as requiring professional installation. THIS IS IMPORTANT. The installation process includes answering a series of questions about your HVAC system like cooling-only or heatpump, single-stage or two-stage compressor, gas, oil, or electric heat, and about 50 more. My old thermostat was an earlier version of this unit and still worked enough for me to access the settings. All of the settings were exactly the same for the new thermostat. I wrote them all down, photographed the wiring connections, and had no problems. I saved hundreds of dollars. I found the Honeywell_TH8321WF1001_U_User_Manual on the internet on the www.herculesindustries.com site. You might look at the steps required before ordering. I COULD NOT HAVE INSTALLED IT WITHOUT THE SETTINGS FROM THE OLD UNIT. If you know about HVAC systems, or can access the settings from your old thermostat, the price is great. This item will work with many different systems, but does not have an auto-setup mode. The picture is my old unit and is all the wiring that you have to connect, but that's the easy part. Good luck.
