  • Quiet and effective
Great cooling fan beside my bed. Adjustable settings include low, medium with some white noise, and super cooling. I like the small footprint it takes and I can pitch the table top fan I was using before getting this one. The price is very good.

  • A Solid Fan, Not an AC Unit
To begin with, no fan is a substitute of an AC system, those that use one need to understand thermodynamics, AC units remove the heat from the room and have super-cooling methods that wouldn't be used in a fan. To get air OUT of a room, you need an exit, an open door, window, etc. I use mine in support of our AC unit, which is all the way in the living room (and struggles to reach my room). Fans are mainly intended to keep the air circulating, but by doing so also slightly (but noticeably in enclosed environments, far more than in open) increase the temperature as a byproduct. However, fans do make it more bearable, and make a significant difference when centered onto the person in question. It's a rather quiet, and tall fan, as opposed to the arguably much stronger, less efficient, and louder box fan that I used to have. This fan does rotate, has multiple settings including ones (that at the lower levels) are little more than white noise, meaning it can be used to give a slight cooling sensation, without being overwhelming, while also staying just loud enough to drown out the disturbances of the night, an owl hooting at an odd hour, birds flying around, etc. Is it perfect, no, in my case my bed happens to be too tall (which I had just set up a day prior to receiving the fan) to make the full use of the fan at night, however the white noise helps with sleeping, and it still does keep a good deal of the heat off at night. I would recommend it to someone who understood what they were looking for in a fan, and what they would be getting. If you are looking for a fan, not an AC unit, this is something that I would recommend. ... show more

  • UPDATED! Arrived damaged, but fixed UPDATED! Arrived damaged, but fixed
First reviewed on August 19th, 2019: I purchased this Honeywell HYF290B tower fan for a hallway in my home. I have window air conditioners in my exercise room and living room, and I wanted to disperse the air a little more evenly as the exercise room stays cold while the hallway is noticeably warmer. I had been using a small box fan to blow air into the room to circulate cold air into the hallway, but it is very old, and I knew there had to be a better option somewhere on Amazon. Tower fans caught my eye because they oscillate, or rotate back and forth. This means it can alternate blowing air into my exercise room and down the hall, which should be great for circulation. In practice, the fan is ineffective because it doesn't blow very hard, even on the highest setting. The name of the fan is Quietset, and in that regard, it excels. It has 8 speeds, sleep, whisper, and calm, all the way up to "Power Cool". All of the fan modes are very quiet, but that's because they aren't blowing much air at all. I can hold my hand two-and-a-half feet in front of the fan and not feel it blowing on the highest setting. I moved the fan to the center of the hallway, away from the wall, to make sure it wasn't starved for air on the intake in the back, and it still didn't blow very much air. I set it up to test it for a few days and realized the discrepancy between the exercise room temperature and the hallway temperature was greater with this tower fan than with my old mini-box fan. I purchased this tall fan expecting a tower of air, and it simply doesn't provide it. On the positive side, the fan seems to be well built. It has a relatively small profile, and it is very quiet. It includes a remote and 7 levels of power. The light is dimmable, so it may be useful in a bedroom just to keep the air from getting stale at night in a room with no ceiling fan. I can't recommend it for any other application, and I wish I had saved the box to send it back. 2/5 stars UPDATE: June 30, 2020, I moved to a new home in November of 2019 and brought this fan with me. When setting it up, I noticed that the housing wasn’t secure, and one piece of the plastic was pushed in on the side (see updated photo). I didn’t know if this had occurred during the move or prior to it. I pushed it back together so that the sides were air tight and used the fan again. This time, there was a solid stream of air coming out of the front of the fan, which now meets my performance expectations. I have it 15 feet away in the living room and can feel a strong breeze on the highest setting, but it is still quiet enough that it is not annoying or distracting. The best part is that it comes with a remote control, so I was able to program it into my Logitech Harmony 650 and 660 remotes (purchased on Amazon) so I can control it across the room. I am able to see the lights on top to know what speed setting it is on. The oscillation works well. Overall, I am supremely satisfied with the fan now and highly recommend it. 5/5 stars ... show more

  • Hell of a fan.
It spins a cylindrical tower style rotary fan blade. A lot of different speed settings but I've ran this on high with the oscillate feature on for the past, 3-4 years. I planned on performing a full disassembly and cleaning but after my air purifier taking a lot longer than intended I wasn't in the mood. So I pointed my window A/C unit, a window fan and laid out a towel, I went to work with a vacuum with a brush attachment, then a light mist of 99% alcohol, then a light mist of 2 parts Dawn dish soap: 3 parts very very hot distilled water in a pressurized sprayer, followed by a rinse of cool pure distilled water while it was running and on oscillate. Turned it upside down and shook it out. smacked it a few times then a few more sprays of alcohol and scrubbing the vents with an old toothbrush, I could have used some automotive grease or silicone lubricant on the moving parts, but this thing will probably outlive most of my appliances already LOL... Then I let the fans blow on it for about 10 minutes and unplugged it and now i use it for my basement. Blows too hard now, lol. Hell of a fan. Compared to those big blade stand up fans, window fans, or a box fan, this thing is 1000x better, let me tell ya. I usually have the window fan blowing in, horizontally at the top of my window and this thing blowing toward the window. Seems weird but it works... get this, super quiet, efficient, powerful, fairly tall but doesn't take up much space, very durable (tipped over about 50 dozen times, could probably weigh it down with a thick piece of steel or a steel ring the same size as the one attached, ooh i am going to search that up or make one right now), remote (? I think i lost mine if it has one), overall a super amazing fan. ... show more

  • Nice Fan! I think I will love it
Having a little trouble with assembly, and will post as to how I like the fan once it's up a running. Just wanted to tell all folks here, that it is listed here at Amazon as a 31" fan, but the box says it is 40". I believe that with the base it becomes 40". Just in case anyone needed to know this. I am ok with that. I can't wait until hubby is awake so he can help me to insert the fan into the base, I'm having trouble with that part. 😨. I can already tell by its many varied features that I am going to love it. Especially after the old rickety fan that I've been using. The on off switch is broken and it barely works. This will be heaven, I love the whisper setting. I am returning. We love the fan and all the different settings. The timer is still a bit confusing to me, and the fact that they label the settings with calm, relax, whisper is annoying. Tell me what the speeds DO, high flow, low flow, etc... low med and high has always worked. The display is very nice and can be dimmed. Making words for settings is almost as dumb as when they started giving colors names, like periwinkle, emerald etc. What was wrong with just shades of color. But I'm figuring out what settings I like. I see they have now sold out of these fans, that's too bad. Hope they get more in stock at the same price. ... show more

So amazing!! It really makes a difference in cooling down the space. Its not way to big its just about right, its not too heavy I was able to carry it on my own its a regular fan weight i guess. I like that it rotates and has different power levels based on what level of coolness you want and the remote is awesome for walking in the morning and trying not to freeze when turning it off. I bought my 1st one about a year ago and have bought another since. ... show more

  • 3 Replacements, All With problems
Another Edit: I have since got another fan from another company called "Dreo", which are right here on Amazon. Now that fan was quiet. Way more quiet then any of these Quietset fans I got.. the first or the replacements. So my suggestion, skip honeywell and go look at the Dreo tower fans. Much better. **Update to My Original Review that is below** So I changed my star Rating for the fan from 2 Stars Down to 1. Honeywell, as a company, has been good at sending replacements and working with me, however, they can't seem to get me a model of this fan that actually works as it should. The first replacement had a loud buzz to it, the second replacent had a bad rumble to it, and now the third replacement, which I received today, is quieter, however in 3 out of the 8 modes available, there is this big vibrating rumble you can feel in the floor, and hear. Very Annoying. The motor is still loud even in sleep mode, although this is the first one I can almost deal with the noise the motor makes. Do yourself a favor -- skip this fan. A good warranty is good, but its useless if the model sucks so bad that everytime they send you one it has a problem with it. ** End of Edit ** Short / Quick version: Pros: Looks great, Slim, lightweight, Remote Control responds well, a decent amount of air, easy to put together, Honeywell has awesome (if not slow) customer service! Cons: -- Dealbreaker for me: Annoying motor noise cancels out any quietness you get -- the questionable build quality of base you put together Long Version: I ordered this fan due to recommendations for it on almost every page I looked up fans on. I was looking for a quiet and cool setting to watch tv with it and to sleep with a quieter fan. I had an older Honeywell tower fan which is awesome, minus the top panel stopped working and you have to use the remote, it's still useful to this day. It was just noisy, and I lost a lot of features with that top panel of buttons not working. So I figured it's time for an upgrade, and with all those recommendations and the luck I had with this other Honeywell I have had for many many years, I got this fan. - The initial hookup and impression - After receiving one fan that was broken, I got this one and it seemed in good shape. I set it up, which was easy. The base is a little worrisome on build quality, but if you are careful snapping it together, it shouldn't be an issue. Then I plugged it in and turned it on. This was when the disappointment started. - Quiet (Or not?) - The sleep mode had very little air noise. Great. However, there is this annoying vibration motor buzzing noise that makes up for it. All I heard was BUUUZUUZUZUUZUZUZUZUZUUUUZUZUZUZUZUZU (yeah, like that). It drove me nuts. I'd rather have a noisy tower fan with lots of air noise. I turned it up to level 5, (which is called Relax), which is what I consider the first "power setting" and it sounded more like a normal fan then. However, after a few seconds, it starts this weird vibration noise again. THUMTHUMTHUMTHUMTHUM but make it like x100 faster than how you can say it with your mouth. Not as annoying, but still annoying. If I were to squeeze the fan with my hands, the noise would stop, which to me suggests a problem with something loose or a design issue with handling vibrations from the motor. I contacted Amazon, being annoyed because this was my second fan, and was graciously given a refund. - Feedback to Honeywell - Being very disappointed, I contacted Honeywell and conveyed my disappointment with this product. They responded by asking me a few questions and then to my surprise sent me a new one, no charge or anything. I have now received yet another one of these Fans, and guess what. IT STILL DOES THE SAME THING! So this has to be a design issue, or I'm the unluckiest person in the world when it comes to fans. Is it useful? Sure. Is it worthy of being called a Quietset? Not in my eyes. It may make less air noise than many other fans, but that motor vibration buzz sound is just too much for me. I can't say if this would be as annoying to you other customers or not, but it's definitely not as quiet as I was led to believe. - Performance and Design - The power is pretty good. People say it's weak, but in my moderate-sized bedroom, I think it does pretty well. If it wasn't for that noise, it would be perfect for me. The design itself though is pretty well done. It looks nice, and it's very skinny and lightweight. The LED on top isn't that bad, you can turn it way down via the button on the control panel and I didn't find it intrusive at night at all. So overall, if I could do it again, I wouldn't purchase this fan. It's just not worth it, especially for the price. The annoying vibration motor noise is just too much. So since I have it, I will make use of it in the noisy times of my residence in the noisiest of areas or at least with a lot of traffice, but for what I was looking for in my bedroom, it looks like I will have to look elsewhere. ... show more
