  • Mostly wonderful but unusable, had to return
Style: WiFi Thermostat
This is a tough item to rate. I loved the ease of installation. It was up and running within minutes. It connected to Alexa without issue. The interface is excellent. The Honeywell app is very usable. However, I had to return it. The temperature differential, otherwise known as the cycle rate, is +/- 0.5 degree. This thermostat was turning my compressor on and off within 5 minutes only to do so again within a minute or 2 when the temp went back up a half a degree. It probably cycled at least 10 or 12 times in an hour. That kind of constant on/off pulls a lot of power unnecessarily and causes additional wear and tear on the hvac system. Honeywell service center days that there is no way to change the differential and it is set that way to maintain as accurate a temp as possible. I returned this unit and purchased an Emerson SensiSmart. That unit allows the owner to set the cycle rate to slow, medium, or fast. I rated this one at 2 stars because in my opinion it is unusable, but I can see how other people might prefer this level of accuracy and, as I said at the beginning, I love everything else about it. ... show more

  • DO NOT BUY - Has Major FLAW at 40 degrees!!!
Style: WiFi Thermostat
I own a number of these(4 actually). Generally they work fine, until today (1/30/2019). In the fall, I installed one of these in my parents cabin up North along with a US Cellular WiFi HotSpot so we could 1) turn up the temp from home before heading there and 2) to monitor the temp in the winter with the App and use the email alerts if the temp went too low or too high. We set the winter temp to 45 degrees to keep pipes from freezing the set the low temp alert (you do this on the website) at 43 degrees. Today we got the alert email at 1am saying the temp was at or below 43 degrees. When I checked my phone app at 5am, it said "Heat On" and 40 degrees. Ok, no problem. Or was there? As the day went on, I expected the temp to drop more if the furnace was not actually working, or to start rising if it was... But Noooooooooo.... it just sat at 40 degrees! I started to get suspicious... It was -15F out at the time, so I took one of my other units, powered it and set it outside. Guess what!?! It stops reporting actual temperature at 40F, and it just stays there! No "---" or real temp. I drove up and sure enough, it was 28 degrees inside the some water had already started freezing. The furnace problem was just a blocked vent pipe from a snow drift - 5 seconds to fix, but we had bad information all day long from this Thermostat!! Now I get that sometimes a T-Stat might have a lowest set-point of 40F, but it should always read and display the actual temp, or if the hardware is too poorly designed (it is not, it is poor software), then it should display dashes "---" or "too low" or SOMETHING to tell us the T-Stat is too stupid to give us true information. This is a major design flaw and I strongly recommend you go with something else - its not worth the frozen pipes!!!! ... show more

  • Works as expected but faced wifi issue setup and found the fix
Style: WiFi Thermostat
though the install and configuration is easy to follow the issue I faced was on the wifi configuration. Email exchange with Honeywell support took a few days and finally a phone call from them. The issue was that it sees my 2.4Ghz wifi but sees it as an open connection where in fact it is password protected, the thermostat router works as it was able to connect using pjone's mobile hotspot. Eventually I found an old thread dated six years ago that Honeywell thermostat wifi does not connect if the id name and password are thirteen characters longer, and once I changed it to meet that limitations, the setup completed successfully. Emailed Honeywell on this to either update their firmware to accept longer names and password or indicate in their setup documentation that it has that limitations. ... show more

  • Great Funtionality for great price
Style: WiFi Thermostat
I absolutely love this brand and this model of Wi-Fi thermostat. I have purchased 5 of this exact model off of Amazon and absolutely cannot be more pleased with the product, the price and how it functions. Number one the price for a Wi-Fi thermostat is normally much higher. I purchased these for around $85 and yes that should be a concern when most Wi-Fi thermostats are twice that. I think the biggest difference is that this model does not have a fancy screen with all kinds of colors and digital eye pleasing features. However not knowing in advance I thought this would be a problem. It is not because with Wi-Fi thermostats you will never stand in front of that thermostat again. Once you install it you will use your iPhone or other wireless device almost 100% of the time to program and adjust the temperature. I have several businesses with these Wi-Fi thermostats and one in my home. It is one simple app on my iPhone that I open and can quickly monitor, adjust and if needed make program changes to the thermostats. The functionality is wonderful, the ability to program and making temperature changes is so easy. I will definitely buy this again when needed and I highly recommend the Honeywell because number one the price is some competitive and number to the functionality is amazing. I did purchase a different brand and the install and functionality was much more complicated and just not worth the fun of having a different brand. So when needed I went back to the Honeywell. ... show more

  • Easy installation and set up
Style: WiFi Thermostat
Easy installation and set up. Just follow the instructions. I had to remove the jumper wire from my new base but otherwise the wires were set up just like the old thermostat (see photos). I also set up the MyTotalConnect account prior to receiving the thermostat, this will come in handy when setting up. Once the thermostat was installed connection was a breeze. I went to iPhone wifi settings and clicked on the thermostat wifi then entered my wifi password. I then went to MyTotalConnect and set up the thermostat settings. You will need the MAC ID and MAC CRC from the back of the thermostat. It was that easy. There was an update right after I had the wifi connected but that did not take too long. Photos are of the old base and new base. ... show more
