  • Hose and window accesories poorly designed
Size: Up to 700 Sq. Ft. Style: Cooling Only
I have only owned this a few days. If my experience changes, I will update this review. The unit itself seems to work as advertised. We are having 95 deg days and it is keeping up with the heat. The device is easy to use and appears to be well made. However, the hose and window attachments are poorly designed. The hose keeps falling out of the window kit - the locks are shoddy plastic with little tension - so as the AC vibrates, it falls out of the window kit. The window kit itself is poorly designed - with lots of air openings. At the very least they could have included insulation tape or something to block the gaps that are designed to occur if you use the included extender. I can't compare to competitor models - but it should not be hard to design a better way to mount the hose to a window. ... show more

  • If only the plastic pieces weren’t junk
Size: Up to 700 Sq. Ft. Style: Cooling Only
It may seem unfair to give the entire product only one star, but we want to warn others off. The poor design and quality of the plastic pieces would ruin for anyone what so far seems an otherwise decent product. This Honeywell replaces one we bought in May 2015 (model MN12CESBB-C, 12000 BTU). The air conditioning part of the unit died at the beginning of another hot, humid New York summer. We had expected the machine to last longer—ten to fifteen years is said to be the average life span for a portable air conditioner—so when we searched for a replacement we considered other manufacturers besides Honeywell. 12000 BTUs hadn’t kept us sufficiently comfortable when the temperature went over 90, so we wanted 14000 this time, but with a single hose to minimize clutter. Well, except for Honeywell and Delonghi, all the 14000 BTU units are double-hosed, and according to some reviews the Delonghi units tend to shut themselves off unexpectedly, requiring a call to customer service to restart. Another Honeywell it had to be, and because all the other Honeywell 14000 BTU models are discontinued or out of stock, we had no choice but to buy this one. (One reason we haven’t returned it is that there seems nothing to replace it with.) This unit has received more negative reviews than the Delonghi units, but the complaints aren’t about the unit itself, rather about the difficulty, some said impossibility, of setting it up. We thought it would be easier for us because of our experience with the old Honeywell. Were we wrong! The hose, adapters, and window panel are all poorly designed and made of flimsy plastic, far inferior to those that came with our old Honeywell. The window panel is too thin and unstable to fit securely enough in the window to keep the hot air out even with a sealant. Connecting the hose to the adapters took us four excruciating hours, resulting in sore fingers from successive attempts. When we were finally able to run the unit, we found that the adapter on either end of the exhaust hose fit far too loosely to stop the hot air from escaping and had a tendency to fall out when the unit was moved (so much for portability!). We’ve replaced to window panel and the adapter that goes with it by buying a gulrear portable air conditioner window kit. It was $40 well spent: the replacement pieces are a far cry from Honeywell’s junk. The new panel is sturdy and fits securely in the window, the new hose adapter fits in it just as securely, and the tight fit stops hot air from escaping and the adapter from falling out when the unit is moved. Matters have improved, but only somewhat: there’s no replacement for the adapter connecting the hose to the unit. As noted, the hot air escapes and great care has to be taken whenever the unit is moved or the adapter will fall out Another inconvenience is that, unlike our old Honeywell, this one has two filters to clean, the smaller of which has to be unscrewed, with a Phillips screwdriver no less. But so far the machine itself has been performing well. Having an extra 2000 BTUs makes a difference. Like the precariously connected exhaust hose, the noise limits the unit’s portability. It’s too noisy for us to be able to sleep were it in the bedroom, so we keep it just outside the open door. The only thing that might interfere with our sleep is knowing that if either of us bumped into the unit the exhaust hose would pop out! Added July 4, 2021 Since posting our review, we’ve put plastic wrap around the adapter connecting the hose to the unit in an attempt to stop hot air from leaking out. But the plastic wrap isn’t strong enough to prevent the adapter from falling off when the unit is moved. Also, we’ve found that the unit itself is defective. It leaks. Our previous Honeywell never did. We realized the unit was leaking only upon seeing the water on the floor. The light that should have warned us that the unit needed to be drained hadn’t come on. If we hadn’t been home, our wood floor would have been ruined. We drained the unit, at both top and bottom. But when we turned it on, it started to leak again after two hours. We put a pan where the water had leaked out and it was soon full. We used to leave our previous Honeywell on whenever we left the apartment and the weather was as uncomfortable as it is now, so we wouldn’t come back to heat and humidity. We can’t do that with our new unit, because the pan we use to catch the water would overflow in our absence to the detriment of our floor. As we say in our review, the unit has to be moved with great care to prevent the hose adapter connected to it from falling out. Now, whenever we move the unit, we have to move the pan as well. (Four hands and arms must come into play: it’s fortunate there are two of us.) As a result of the effort and stress involved in moving the unit, we almost never do. Indeed, it’s no longer a portable air conditioner. ... show more

  • Quiet and cools

I was hesitant about this air conditioner, but I am very happy with it. The unit is very quiet when running and powerful in cooling. One of the features I like best is I don't have to drain the water.

  • It cools the kitchen...
Size: Up to 700 Sq. Ft. Style: Cooling Only
after researching and not being able to find a big enough unit to cool our kitchen, we bought this one. at first we had it in our bedroom, then moved it to the kitchen. It overflows, it leaks, the exhaust vent pipe isn't long enough, the draining hose isn't long enough. we have had it all summer, it does cool very well. we run it all day and there is NO ENERGY efficiency what so ever. My power bill has been over $200 every month since June. the drainage hole is SO HARD to get to, its annoying to empty. There was no mention of it needed a drainage pan in the description, only in the package insert. The exhaust vent barely reaches out our windows, it doesn't bend very well, and pops out very easy if its not PERFECT. The draining hose is too short and won't even drain into a 5 gallon bucket because the design is to low on the unit to keep the hose angled high enough to drain out.. which then causes the overflow tank to fill, and the unit will shut off. The bottom tank drainage hole is at the VERY MOST bottom of the unit and is so difficult to access. I wouldn't recommend if you have higher set windows. I wouldn't recommend if you can't lift the unit alone to drain the bottom water catch. ... show more

Size: Up to 700 Sq. Ft. Style: Cooling Only
The description says cool up to 700 sq ft. This unit can't even cool 400 sq ft any cooler than 84 degrees. It does a terrible job. It also uses a lot of electricity. My bill doubled . I will not buy another one from this company.

Size: Up to 700 Sq. Ft. Style: Cooling Only
The unit is portable so that makes it great to easily move around. It was fairly quiet, quieter than I expected. I love that is multi purpose. I do not think it cools a room as quickly as a window unit but very happy with purchase.

  • Loud
Size: Up to 700 Sq. Ft. Style: Cooling Only
First of all, the AC came without the hose hookup and I had to get another whole unit shipped and return the old one. Secondly, it is not quiet. It restarts every couple of minutes during the night . I would NOT recommend for a bedroom.
