  • A great chair at a bargain price
Size: Asynchronous Control Style: Casual Pattern Name: Office Chair
Before getting to the chair itself, I'll mention that the packaging leaves much to be desired: The parts are jumbled in the box with so little padding that it's amazing that nothing appears to be broken. That said, most of the parts are solid and massive, so damaging them would be tough, but there are things like the control levers that are vulnerable. Just inspect everything carefully before assembling. Assembly was a breeze: having assembled a few similar chairs, I could probably have done it without instructions, but there are the usual illustrated instructions. The parts are in a blister-pack, so there's very little (if any) chance of their being absent or getting lost, and they include one extra each of the two parts (bolts and so on) required to assemble the chair. The small number of such parts is what makes the assembly so easy -- four bolts to attach the plate with the main controls to the bottom of the seat, and three stops to prevent the arms and back from being pulled too far. As I said, the main components of the chair are solid, massive, and heavy: they're not going to bend or break anytime soon. There's relatively little plastic in the construction, and that's almost all in areas where there's not going to be major stress. The places where the back and arms insert are thick metal, as are the inserts themselves. I'm sitting on the chair as I type this: it arrived today, and after perhaps 15 minutes assembling it, it took perhaps another 5-10 to master the controls and set it up so that it's more comfortable than any other desk chair in which I've ever parked my 225-lb carcass. I can tell that some fine-tuning will be necessary to make it perfect, but given the number of adjustments possible and the degree of adjustment, I have no doubt that I'll be sitting on cloud 9 soon. The control levers are like the other components: solid and massive. The only ones that don't snap firmly from the locked position to the unlocked position are the seat forward/backward lever on the left, but I didn't find that troublesome because sliding forward and back is so easy; and the seat height adjustment, because it would make adjusting the height much harder than having it spring back to the locked position. The other two controls -- seat angle and back angle -- snap solidly into unlocked position and stay there until you snap them back to locked ... if that's what you want. Seat angle you probably _do_ want to lock, but if you don't lock back angle it moves freely with an amount of tension controlled by the big knob under the chair in the front, so if you like to recline sometimes you can. I like the back to be stable, so I've got it locked, but if I wanted to stretch a bit I could easily flip that lever and lie back. The seat is cushioned but firm: I'm not sinking into it very far, but it's comfortable. The back mesh is springy enough to yield a bit when I lean back onto it, but not mushy. The only quibbles I have so far are: - it rocks from side to side a bit, but I'm actually wondering whether that's an advantage, in that it allows to move a bit side-to-side as well as back and forth, which may make sitting in it for long stretches a bit easier without having to get up and walk around. Any programmer, or writer, will understand that there are times when getting up may disrupt one's train of thought, but wiggling a bit won't. We'll see whether this is a valid point or just a rationalization because there's so little I don't like about the chair. - the back doesn't go down quite enough for me: I'd prefer that it hit me behind my hips, not the small of my back -- but this may be because I have spinal stenosis, and the support at that point feels better than the usual lumbar support position does. Again, may be a rationalization, but with the back at its lowest position it's _almost_ right. I had my wife, who's 5'2 (I'm 5'8) and weighs a LOT less than I do sit in it, and even without adjusting anything but the height she was asking me how much it cost: she'd just bought an el-cheapo Staples chair without any adjustments, and was jealous. Now that I think of it, given the difference between that chair and this one, the price difference is insignificant: the Staples chair lists for $100, but was on sale for $50 or $60, so even at the sale price it's only $80-$90 less -- for a chair that's WAY more adjustable and intrinsically way more comfortable. I'll report back later if things change, but so far I consider this a steal compared to chairs that aren't even as fully adjustable as this one. I find it hard to believe that a Miller chair is more comfortable than this is, much less 5 -6 times more comfortable. ... show more

  • Great chair for people with back issues.
Size: Asynchronous Control Style: Casual Pattern Name: Office Chair
I have problems with my back so I searched out ergonomic chairs. This one met what I was looking for and was affordable. It provides great support and mesh allows your body to breath. It was easy to assemble and nothing has broken down.

  • Comfortable, sturdy, easy to assemble
Size: Asynchronous Control Style: Casual Pattern Name: Office Chair
I bought this chair because our office chairs at work are HON brand, and I knew they were sturdy, comfortable, and supportive. This model was not the one we have at work, but i took a chance on it anyway because it was as significantly less expensive than the model we have there…. I guess to some degree, you “get what you pay for”…. it is noticeably of a “cheaper” finish and quality, but it feels just as sturdy and comfortable, so I’m still happy with it. It was easy to assemble, and I was astonished at how few screws and parts needed to be put into it during assembly. There are 4 screws, an Allen wrench, and a handful of plastic “keeper” buttons. The box arrived pretty beat up (delivered via UPS), and there was a small amount of damage to the plastic support on the bottom of the back of the chair back where it slides into the seat base. When I was unboxing then parts, that small plastic piece of plastic fell out of the box, and I couldn’t figure out where it had snapped off of until I had the chair fully assembled and looked over it carefully one last time. It isn’t in a place where it’ll really be noticeable or bothersome; however, it would be nice if it didn’t arrive with a broken piece due to poor packing and handling. I would not be as happy with this if I’d paid full price for it, just due to the cheaper quality materials and it arriving with part of the plastic broken… however, I got it for a really good price on Amazon Prime Day, so I am okay with it. This is FAR more sturdy and comfortable than other “bargain”-priced office chairs we have purchased in the past, and hopefully it’ll last a good, long while before it needs to be replaced. ... show more
