This is my second jump starter battery pack. The first one I bought a couple of years ago and have had it in the trunk of my car. One thing I did learn about these is that the battery charge does not last forever. If you want to keep the battery fully charged, you will need to top off the charge monthly. My first battery pack was old school - it had a round connector for the wall plug and for the output, it came with a series of round connectors - no USB. This new pack is all USB which is great. The key purpose of this battery pack is to give you a quick jump start if your car battery gives up the ghost - e.g., if you left your lights on. There’s not an unlimited amount of juice in this thing. So, while it can turn over your car to get it started. If you have an old clanker that needs to be turned over several times or for more than 10 seconds, you could be out of luck. Best to pack jumper cables as well. This pack has a flashlight which you can turn on continuously or put in blinking mode. However, for me the real selling point is the power out option for any device that is between 5v and 12v. For example, if you’re camping or otherwise off the grid or lose house power, you can plug in your phone or laptop into one of the USB slots and charge it or just run it from the battery. Very cool and useful. As you can see in my photos, there are (3) USB ports - one (black) 5v, one blue (5-12v) and one USB-C. These can be used for charging (power in) or powering something (power out). PROS: - Large display - Great for trunk - Flashlight included - Small and compact - Large capacity lithium Ion battery - Includes hardshell case with zipper - Intuitive controls and easy to operate - Great for jump starting a car with a dead battery - Provides emergency power for phone or other 12v device CONS: - Doesn’t have as much juice as a car battery - You do have to keep it charged with a monthly top off - It does take a couple of hours to fully charge when battery is depleted Overall, this is a great product. This one is going in my truck. No matter where I get stranded with a dead battery, I can get back up and running without relying on the mercy of someone to give me a jump (I do carry jumper cables too, however). I haven't been able to test this yet (no dead batteries), so cannot give you the complete skinny, however, from all outward appearances it seems to be a decent unit. I'd suggest their rating of "4000A" must be either a mistype or they're just overhyping their product. I have no clue how they came to that number, but to push 4000A @ 12vdc, the cables to the connectors would need to be bigger than the unit itself (according to a wire size chart). Regardless, you don't need 4000A to start a vehicle anyway. That said, this unit is fairly foolproof. It has decent instructions, if brief. The indicator light on the unit will tell you if you have things hooked up correctly. As long as the unit has the 20AH reserve (which is also in doubt), it should last a good while. You can charge your phones or what have you fairly easily and many times over. There are three ports on it which can provide power at the same time. It shows on the unit it can charge at different voltages so "I assume" it is smart enough to know what voltage to put through the outlets to get your device charged. Overall, it is compact and easily used. If when I get a chance to use it I find it is something else, I will update this review.

The Hompow portable jump starter is an important and almost necessary item to have around if you're someone who lives and works a daily commuting life. The form factor of this jump starter and the battery type is much better in my opinion than traditional lead acid battery jump starters which are bulky, heavy, and have limited jumping capabilities. It's nice to know that you have and can use something like this if necessary. It's also nice to know that you can charge your phones and use this as a power bank with 20,000 mah. Overall, this is a important item to have around and with it's size and portability, it can be stored in almost any trunk.

I have a few different jumper units now that I have gotten from various manufacturers over time. This unit feels a bit light for its rated specs but without opening it up and see the electronics and the battery configuration it is hard to tell exactly what it has under the hood. It actually comes with a wall wart for charging which is nice. Case included holds everything well and is not too cramped. The case does have a bit of a funky smell though. Before even charging the unit I ended up using it to jump a 4 cylinder Mazda 3. Battery was completely dead with no solenoid clicking. After connecting the jumper it fired the car right up without any struggle or having to press any boost buttons on the jumper. Unit works so far, seems to be decently made but time will tell how long the batteries last. It will also be interesting to try to jump larger engines / batteries in the future. If it has any issues later, I will be sure to update my review.
