First off, it does look odd that all reviews (or most) are 5-star, and they were all done within a few days of each other. I too was very skeptical when I made the purchase. The only bad thing that I had is that the sensor did not swivel for me. However, their CS was terrific when I alerted them to the problem. Due to the CS, I do not think the issue warrants the deduction of a star. I have tried three others, and they are okay, but they don't compare to this can. 1. The A/C adapter (though not included) is fantastic. The others I had didn't have the option. 2. The switch is easily accessible if you need to turn it off. 3. The lid is much nicer than those that open like a clamshell. No matter the brand, a clamshell top will get disgusting, and it reduces the overall opening. This lid opens fully and does not obstruct the opening. 4. Due to 3, the can/lid will stay cleaner. My kids have a much easier time using it without messes. The short stature helps too. 5. The countdown on the lid closing is AMAZING. I haven't seen that with my others, and it is a huge advantage. Not only does it tell you when it is closing but, more importantly, it gives you immediate feedback if the sensor detected your hand for a second time to keep it from closing. With my others, you had to hope that it saw your hand. 6. The buttons for the manual open and close are hands-down the best I've seen. They are large and flush with the top rather than small and "bubbled." 7. Because this is rectangular, you can use the whole bag. What I mean is that the others (round or semi-round) do not make efficient use of the bag. When you remove the bag, the contents settle, and that means that you have an only half-used bag. With this being a rectangle, it keeps the bag open, so you get full use before you remove it. 8. Speaking of removal, it is much easier to remove this bag than the others. You can use the ring or not. If you don't, it holds the bag tighter (much tighter), but you do see it sticking out of the can. I just used the ring for the first time so it will be interesting to see if we have issues. I do not expect issues because the size of the can allows the bag to rest on the bottom. ... show more

Love this for kitchen trash. It comfortably holds normal 13 gal trash bags, you don't need to buy special ones from hOmeLabs, and they are easy to install into the bag holder. The motion sensor does require you to get a bit closer to it than I'd like, but I've gotten used to it. The stainless steel construction makes it easy to clean and it looks great. We have a large dog that would rummage in the trash when nobody was home, so we got this and plugged it into a SmartHome outlet that automatically turns the bin off when we leave home and on when someone arrives back. No more coming home to trash everywhere! ... show more

At first I absolutely loved the looks of this garbage can. I like that I can hide the garbage bag. I had one problem with the lid not working unless my hand was practically on top of the sensor. I decided to email the company and tell them about my problem. They emailed me back very quickly and my problem was fixed. They are an exceptional company and a five star review is just not enough. I wish they could give lessons to other companies on how to treat and respect people that use their business.     • Hands-free is nice but this machine is delicate!

I like that it's hands-free. Going back to a manual garbage can is impossible after using this! However, this thing is delicate with lots of little plastic gears. If you interfere with the lid while the motor is moving it, you're going to break the mechanism. You must never, even touch the lid. Just let it do its thing and keep your hands off it. I ordered 2 of the 13 gallon automatic trash cans in 2019 and in 2024 on of them stop being automatic. We love these cans. The design allows for more debris so less trips to outside container. The lid opens and closes for you so no smell is released into your home. One of mine quit working when I was over zealous with cleaning and got some moisture in the electrical parts after 5 years of use. I contacted seller to see if I could purchase just the part I broke, the lid. The can was still beautiful. They were so amazing, they sent me a whole new can, free of charge !! I recently got the Hands-Free Infrared Motion Sensor Trash Can, and honestly, it's been a bit of a letdown. There are three major flaws: 1) the motion detection only works when you’re about 4 inches away. I often have to wave my hand really close to the sensor before the lid finally opens. 2) The lid itself feels flimsy and doesn’t close properly. I'm worried it won't last long. It should be sturdier for the price. 3) The mechanism that holds the trash bag is made of thin plastic and feels cheap. It’s hard to secure the bag, and I’m always concerned it's going to break. Considering these issues, it’s tough to justify the high price. The concept is great, but the poor motion detection, flimsy lid, and weak bag holder make this trash can a disappointing purchase. I expected better quality for what I paid. I wouldn’t recommend it unless these problems are fixed. ... show more
