At first when unpacking the trash can the larger container was difficult to remove. Took patience and some jiggling to finally get it out of larger trash can; part of the container's rim was caught beneath the can's rim. However, once freed everything works perfectly. And yes you can keep the lid open when removing one of the containers. Simply push the foot pedal to open the lid and when the lid reaches the halfway mark of being fully closed simply lift it all the way back up and it stays in place. Push the foot pedal again and it closes. The trash can is slender and sleek looking. I ordered a black can but got what looks like a dark bronze. Really liked the color so kept it. This was a purchase so I didn't have to have 2 cans in the house. I wish that the recycle side was just a little bigger, since we recycle more than anything. I probably could switch the sides if wanted to. It fits perfectly in my pantry area with no issues. The outside of the can cleans up with a wet paper towel. The lid fits nicely over the top. For us it is dog proof, our abs can't lift it with their noses, so that was a plus. ... show more

This trash can is perfect! We have had this trash can for almost 2 years and it is still working the same as when we bought it. I wanted one that had the separate part for recycling. Love this! It comes with an air freshner you can stick inside the lid, and magnets to label the bins on the side. Helped me clean up my kitchen as I had a separate box for recycling next to my trash can. Love the magnets included to distinguish which is recycling and trash!! We got the dark trash bin. We haven't had any dents yet (as per other reviews), but since it's dark, it's hard to notice anyway. We'd say it's pretty stable.

I love the design and look of this trash can, it's perfect for my kitchen. The downfall is that I've only had it for a couple of months and notice that it dents easily and also the black stainless steel color is wearing off, causes streaks when I wipe it down
