  • This is a PERFECT product
Model: L9Q
This is my first Ultra Short Throw projector. I've only had it for a week so can't comment on longevity, but OMG, what a fantastic product. We are using it on a great room wall with the traditional contractor off-white paint that had a mirror and a couple of paintings on it. I figured I'd see whether the image was any good and would either return the unit or maybe upgrade with a projector screen. The image is STUNNING. After a little bit of adjustment on the leveler feet, the keystone, and the focus, every part of the image is crystal clear. If displaying an exact image like a spreadsheet grid there is some deformation of the image due to the imperfections in the drywall, so a true cinephile no doubt wants a fancy, expensive, ALR screen, but for watching Netflix or sports after dinner it is unnoticeable. Before setting it up I had also read about special paint and was thinking I would need to spackle the nail holes from the mirror and paintings and repaint the wall but that's completely unnecessary. There were comments about the sound quality being mediocre, but the sound quality of the built in speakers is great, although I am not using them (see below). One thing that I hadn't anticipated is that this isn't merely a large TV, it turns watching into a fully immersive experience. Watching sports it feels like you're courtside. A few notes. I wasn't sure if I would return it because I was skeptical of the picture quality. So, the former 80" TV is on the opposite wall. It is mounted above an AV "cabinet." The whole setup includes a Denon receiver and Klipsch surround sound speakers. I had originally thought that I would mount the projector on some sort of table or stand, but to maximize the image size it is on the floor so that the bottom of the image is just above the outlets and the top of the image is an inch below the 10' ceiling. The point is that to maximize the image size there is no good way to have equipment in any sort of normal AV cabinet, so it either needs to be somewhere away from the unit or on the floor. This also means that you need to have some agility to adjust the levelers because they are on the floor. I also feel like one would need to build some sort of fence around the unit if there were infants or toddlers around. In a greenfield install things might be easier, but I left the receiver where it was so now have an Amazon Fire TV cube on the floor next to the Hisense, then a 50' digital optical cable running to the receiver, then had to switch front and rear speakers to use the wires running from the Denon to the rear speakers to become the front speakers. I'm not sure what to do about the center speaker. I had thought there was a way to use the Hisense built-in speakers as the center speaker but that may have been for a competing product as I don't see that option in the audio set-up. The only thing that is not intuitive is that some options are accessible through "settings," but others (like keystone) are only accessible through the "menu" button on the remote. I have no experience with the competition, so don't know if this is worse, the same, or better. All I know is that it is a fantastic product. Another reviewer wrote about a rainbow effect. I had to Google that to see what it was, and now knowing what it is I haven't experienced it. Lastly, my girlfriend remarked that it is a lot to spend on a TV. That is true. HOWEVER, assuming a ten year life, the cost works out to roughly a couple of dollars per day. Given that it's our entertainment most evenings after dinner, this is roughly on par with, say, half of a Starbucks coffee every day and per week, less than a glass of wine or cocktail on a Saturday night out. ... show more

  • Major hardware issues with L9Q
Model: L9Q
The media could not be loaded. I had to return my unit because of an inherent physical defect present in the L9Q line. The retailer I purchased from concurred, noting that their in-house floor model exhibited the same issue (though to a lesser degree). Other owners on the AVS Forum have also confirmed that their units show this same defect, specifically regarding color variations. Since Hisense claimed—in conversations with both me and my retailer—that this is "within specs," I cannot support the brand. When paying over $6k, this level of quality is simply not "okay." I advice all other owners to check their unit as well. ... show more

  • Good but not great
Model: L9Q
It is good but not awesome. Defitnly better for 200” screen than 120”. Not that clear resolution as spected for that price.

  • Can't get past the rainbow effect
Model: L9Q
The projector is top of the line, is very bright and has beautiful colors but I'm returning the one I just bought because the rainbow effect is making me sick. I used to have an LG HU85LA which does not show a rainbow effect and changing to this one is hard. I didn't know I was susceptible to rainbow effect.. I didn't even know what it was before this projector because I had never experienced it before ... show more

  • Great buy for what I got!
Model: L9Q
The media could not be loaded. I've had fun with this UST! I had the L9H before and it’s served its purpose, but the L9Q is alot brighter - and that is an understatement of how powerful this thing is. The setup out of the box is pretty easy - everything you need is there, even without the screen the projector has great quality. Setup is smooth as well, if you already have Google OS as your go to, all you need is a couple WR scans and you’re there. It’s very functional and efficient - you don’t need to be an engineer to figure this one out! I’m in love with the picture - my setup is with an electric rolldown 100" ALR screen(bought a MIGO screen from Amazon) in a loft space. It’s mostly dark in the space but even when I leave hall or overhead lights on it comes through clear. I noticed is that sits closer to the wall and gets a really good picture. My PS5 runs really well and I’ve had no problems with lag and the picture is pretty clear. The sound is powerful - it gets loud anything that I’m watching but the bass holds up and there’s no loss in treble. Movies feel like my own personal theater, too. I was about to buy a sound bar but since the sound projects so well - Its not really need it. it's pretty - the rose gold stands out and the wood look finish feels comfy and fits the the room. I love it! ... show more
