  • good aftermarket carb for your stihl chainsaw
good pricing, fast shipping, installed perfectly, and works perfectly

  • Works great as good as original
I installed this on a MS290 Farm Boss from around 2005 model year. I ordered a genuine Stihl carburetor on Ebay but it was stolen in delivery so I figured I would try this one. Normally I avoid imported knock off parts but lately I've found the carburetors to be great and the OEM ones don't last either with the lousy fuel these days. I installed it and it fired right up. It did need adjustment for ideal throttle response and idle but the saw responds very well to the mixture and idle screws on this carb. I'd argue it has more adjustment range than the original and that could be due to EPA rules, not sure but I don't recall the original being able to be leaned out as well on idle. My saw always liked to flood a little when really hot but this carb fires up perfectly on hot starts. The lightest pull and it fires back up, I'm loving it. For those who aren't familiar with this type of carburetor let me explain how to tune it. The carb has two mixture screws side by side (H and L) and the idle screw (LA) below those. Try to start the saw and if the idle is too high back off a little until the chain stops turning or just turns a little starting and stopping. Once it idles at a reasonable speed test the throttle. If it is crisp with no bogging you may be done but you can turn the L screw clockwise or counterclockwise to see if you can increase the idle notably. If you notice that the L screw can impact the idle adjust it to raise the idle, then lower the idle with the LA screw. What you are doing here is getting the mixture as optimized as possible during idle. So tweak the L, then back off the LA. At some point it will be most optimal and purr while maintaining crisp throttle. You want to try to do this alternating adjustment of L and LA to get maximum smooth idle. Next step is to adjust the H screw under high throttle. You want to get it so that it screams but is smooth, but be careful, you don't want the H at the most lean setting because you can oil starve or over rev a 2 stroke. So tweak this, then back off a bit below the maximum speed you can reach. As a general rule you shouldn't run any two stroke full speed for extended time. Stihl makes great engines but you can hurt them if they run very lean at high RPM for an extended time. Last thoughts. If your saw doesn't start up immediately after installing the new carb turn up the idle a couple turns first and try starting it once turning the L screw quarter turn one way, then quarter turn other way from wherever it started. Remember where the L screw started and try different settings in and out going 1/4 turn more or less. Eventually you will find the sweet spot and you can start from top of the process above. • faster and a quarter of the cost of sending a saw to the shop
I will not comment on the fuel lines as I did not have to replace mine. I have seen others comment that they were not happy with them, so I avoided them and it was unnecessary. I only use non-ethenol fuel. My existing carb it the original OEM on a vintage 1982 029 that continues to run. But, I think I damaged a needle adjusting with stripped screws, so I decided to replace the entire carb rather than parts. Super easy install. Took less than 15 minutes in total and started up on the 4th pull! I only tweeked the high speed a fraction to get it dialed-in and it has worked fantastic over the past 2 weeks of cutting. I've probably run 10-12 tanks of fuel through Hurricane Helene-related tree clean-up since our government has decided after funding debris removal for a year, that they are no longer interested in helping. ... show more

  • A fraction of the cost of oem carburetor and it worked just fine.
Put carb on a stihl 029. Original carb. didn't have the top air horn that connects to the air filter. Ordered the grommet and it fit perfectly. Carburator adjusted out for high and low r.p.m.'s just fine.

  • Poor fuel line that will kink.
I would not recommend for a MS290 as the fuel line that comes with this kit is very poor quality, as others have noted. It is very thin rubber at the neck and it kinks where it turns 90° to connect to the carb, shutting of fuel flow, which then makes the unit impossible to tune. Can't comment on the carb itself until I get a replacement OEM fuel line. ... show more

  • Stihl MS310
I have a 15 year old Stihl MS310 that was on its original carburetor. Not bad considering I didn't always use non-ethanol gas. Draining the fuel and running the saw until the carb runs out of fuel always helps with that when you're not using your saw for a while. New carburetor seems to work fine out of the box. I didn't adjust the high and low, but I did adjust the idle down a little bit. I used the air filter, fuel line (carb to fuel tank), and fuel filter, but I skipped the rubber hose from carburetor to engine (I cleaned the original one and put it back because the new part looked too different to me), the bar oil filter (hard to get to), and the spark plug (I had a new one already). On my saw, I did have to remove the orange plastic casing which also required me to remove the muffler assembly and side cover where the pull cord is just so I could remove/replace and reinstall the 2 rubber lines from the carb to fuel tank and carb to engine. If you're just replacing the carb, you won't need to worry about taking all that off. You will need to original black rubber piece that goes around the carburetor air intake port (where the air filter pushes on to the carb) so don't throw away your old carb before getting that off. The chain saw sounds better now and is very responsive compared to the old carb. With the old carb, I was having bogging problems, but the new one fixed that. I may bring it to a Stihl shop to have them check low and high settings, but it seems responsive when I pull the throttle and sounds right at the top of its RPM. Worth the money to use this replacement if you've tried cleaning your old carb and it still doesn't run right. ... show more
