I wanted to have something verses nothing and didn't want to spend over a hundred dollars. This one popped up during one of my searches. It does work. It is lightweight plastic but I don't plan on being abusive with it. I wanted something with a needle Guage and not an electronic display screen. The headphones and folding pick/shovel were welcome bonuses. I'm happy with this detector for the money. Maybe someday I'll want to spend more money and get something better, but for now this works just fine. ... show more

Here are my thoughts on this metal detector after a few field tries. I will confess that I'm not an expert on metal detectors. I have used at least 3 or 4. One was my kids, one was owned by a person who goes treasure hunting. This one falls somewhere in between. Here are the things I think are pertinent: - Easy to assemble and a decent kit. Comes with a headset that I have not used. - Says "professional grade". I'm not so sure about that. It's decent, but more of a starter unit. - It detects metals as it should, but I found it to be inconsistent and hard to hold a target. This makes sweeping the area a bunch to find what you're looking for. - Construction is OK. Sort of plastic-y feeling. Pretty light. - Adjustable shaft is a nice to have. - LCD Screen work fine. Wish the indicator text was larger but that's more my issue since I just can't see as well as I used to. Easy to operate w/ 2 buttons that toggle through your options. - Takes 2, 9 volt batteries. You can see in the video some of what I mean by inconsistency. It's an ok unit, fit for this price range. Economical for fun, getting started, or youngsters. There are better units but you'll be spending more too. So again, somewhere in the middle is how I feel about this one. ... show more

    • Kid level ages 8 - 12! Adults would need a better detector to stay interested.

I have a very high-end metal detector and this one I would recommend for a child ages 8 to 12. It is very iffy at detecting. We took it to the beach after a storm and I let my grandson scan an area first and then I scanned with my very high-end detector. This one was hit or miss with detecting, but the LCD screen works great. If the metal item was VERY close to the surface the detector could find it. I would recommend this detector for a child's first detector and if they like detecting they will request a better one. My grandson based on our detecting outings has already decided he wants a better detector. This was easy to put together and comes with a headset that my grandson did use and said it worked fine. It feels cheap like a kid's toy and is light in weight so perfect for a young child. ... show more

It works, somewhat, it is detecting things but its a bit wild and hard to really zero in on objects with. This is also another item that should not be packaged with accessories and put the savings towards building a slightly better product.
