International design firm Studio 7.5 teamed up with Herman Miller to create an office chair that supports our evolving work culture. They noted that people today are constantly in motion as they work on their laptops and mobile devices. Mirra 2 is designed to provide support that moves with them. This dynamic support begins with the Butterfly Back seat that provides ample support, complete with gradated cutouts that flex for improved movement and circulation, a lumbar brace for your lower back and AireWeave 2 mesh that helps distribute weight and keeps you cool. In addition, Mirra 2 offers a passive harmonic tilt mechanism that allows natural reclining, four-stage FlexFront for altering seat depth and tilt tension knob for regulating seat give. Despite being packed with features, Mirra 2 has a lean, athletic form. It advances Studio 7.5's philosophy that “every molecule counts” by striving to use less material to achieve maximum performance. I got this in my quest to replace my Herman Miller Aeron chair which was coming unwoven in the back. I am a bit above average size at, 6'2" and 220 lbs, and this chair is perfect for me. I tried several other less expensive chairs, and ended up returning them all. Let me tell you what is amazing about this chair: It's pretty obvious that just about everything is adjustable, but there are some advantages which are not apparent from the description... Built to last: I replaced the foam on my Aeron five times over five years, and when a woman's ring caught one of the threads in the back it all started coming apart quickly. While the front of this chair does still have a small strip of foam, it's better protected and since the leading edge of the seat is adjustable, it takes much less pressure. The back is also a plastic that bends and morphs as you move around, making both more durable but also ridiculously comfortable. Well-made: This chair feels like it was designed and made by Porsche, with everything fitting perfectly and feeling very solid. The plastic and small amount of foam give off no odors, and this chair is ready for heavy use from the time you take it out of the box. Assembly was so easy I don't think you can even really call it "assembly." Anyone who is hesitating, I can tell you you will not regret this purchase. I expect this chair to last me a decade at least, and that's less than a quarter per day for something your body will thank you for.

This product was defective, came without wheels, was visibly damaged, scuffed, and worn. Beyond disappointed for the price and returns are virtually impossible. I haven’t been able to get in touch with the company. Please avoid buying this.

I read about the Herman Miller Mirra chair while reading Jeff Atwood's blog a while ago. It seemed nice but it was pretty expensive so I forgot about. Eventually I got tired of sitting on my current chair. So, after reading a few more reviews I decided to purchase the Mirra chair. In my research I found out that Herman Miller has two yearly sales in which it cuts the price of if its furniture by 15%. The sales appear to occur at the beginning of June and around Christmas. I purchased a new fully adjustable Mirra chair with the tilt limiter and forward tilt during one of those sales from Amazon for $679. I highly recommend waiting for a sale if you are thinking of purchasing a Herman Miller chair, the regular price on the chair is $799 so you'll save over $100 by waiting a few months. Personal Impression I received the chair a couple days after I ordered it. it comes in a huge box that weighs around 50lbs. It comes almost fully assembled, the only assembly required is to attach the back to the base using two bolts. One small annoyance is that you need a socket wrench to properly install the bolts - the bolts don't tighten well enough and the back starts to wiggle if you use a monkey wrench like first I did. The Mirra has a suspended mesh bottom that supports the user very well. It has a slight give and molds to the shape of your bottom instead of forcing your bottom flat like a regular chair. The arms are soft and filled with a kind of a gel and are very comfortable unlike the hard or soft plastic most other chair use. In addition to adjusting up and down, the armrests also twist inward as well as move in and out. The material that comprises the back is very flexible. Unlike a traditional chair that usually has a hard or soft back, the Mirra's back is flexible and molds to your back. In addition, the adjustable lumbar support lets you target the small of your back. The recline feature is very well built. As advertised, the seat tilts along with the back. However, unlike cheaper chairs where the back and seat feel bolted together, the Mirra seat tilts back at a different rate than the back so your whole body feels supported. The recline is so comfortable that I even like to relax in the chair. The tilt tensioner and limiter lets you dial the tilt to whatever you feel like for that day! One disappointment is the forward tilt feature. From the description you would imagine that the seat and back would tilt forward and support your body when you leaned forward but that is not the case. The forward tilt is just that - it is a lever that tilts the seat forward at a set angle and is not adjustable. It actually ends up being uncomfortable and is a useless feature. Annoyances The chair has a several annoyances that I would not expect on a product at this price. The armrests wiggle within the in-out setting you chose even under light pressure. I would expect the mechanism to move the armrests in and out to hold the arms tighter. The arms don't always lock at the height you select, the steps for the locking mechanism need to be tighter. In addition, the armrests don't move in and out very smoothly, it takes a disproportionate amount of force to get them moving and you have a tendency to slam the armrest because of the force you use. Overall, once the chair is adjusted to your workspace these annoyances fade and you you don't notice them as much. Conclusion Overall, I like the Mirra. It is a great improvement over my Ikea Verksam chair. The Mirra is very comfortable and is highly adjustable. I can work in it for hours and thanks to the recline features is a great chair to relax in. It has some annoyances that I wouldn't want to see in a chair at this price but they are unnoticeable once you properly adjust the chair. Realizing that I spent more time more time behind my desk (over 16 hours a day, in fact), it didn't make sense to skimp out. Even if there's a point of diminishing rewards (perhaps around the 200 dollar mark), I still wanted, nay needed, the best I could get. I visited my local Room and Board and tried out all their seats, and the wide range of adjustment options (particularly the forward tilt which is essential if you type a lot) combined with the way the Mirra just fit made me want to get it - unfortunately it was out of stock and wouldn't be available for over a month and a half (I'm in the Chicagoland region). So I turned to Amazon and purchased it here, hoping very hard that I would find it to my satisfaction as it wouldn't be accompanied with any 30/60/90 day satisfaction and exchange guarantee. As a fairly skinny guy (160lbs at 5'11"), I found the seat to be a little uncomfortable in the buttock region at first, with the mesh feeling just a little too stiff for my liking. However, I decided to give it a few days before giving in and sending it back (at ~60lbs it would cost a pretty penny via USP) with a 10% restocking fee, and I'm glad I did. Your buttocks will get used to it, and the seat will give in just a little. It'll "just fit" and you won't even know it's there, except for the reassuring lumbar support and a gentle restraining feel around the sides of the calves. Definitely not regretting my purchase now, and fully recommend this for any others looking for a good computer chair. Make sure you pay the extra 30 dollars for the forward tilt, at that price it's not something you want to skimp out on.

Back plastic mesh broke in two spots about 2 inches in on both sides (4 broken areas) in lumber area after 4 years. The broken pieces poke the back when you sit. The comfort was alright before this.

With all the glowing reviews, you'd probably assume that this chair is pretty comfortable. That may be for some folks but if you're looking, I urge you to sit in one with an open mind. I wish I'd done this because I ended up hating this chair and returning it... losing a fair amount of money in shipping and restock fees in the process. The main problem is with the seat. While the mesh is just fine in the rear-end portion of the seat(quite cushy with lots of depth to its flex) it's the opposite in the hamstring area. The mesh is still there, but because of the location of the chair's frame in this area, the mesh isn't allowed the same depth of flex. The result is that there's pressure pushing up on your hamstrings, which cuts off circulation and it's really noticeable. I'm positive I had the chair adjusted correctly at one point during the time I had it. My feet were on the floor, my legs weren't dangling, I wasn't sitting on my head, I weigh 175 pounds and I'm not freakishly proportioned. Bottom line, you shouldn't have to think "am I sitting in this chair properly? What am I doing wrong? Is it me? Am I not worthy of this chair? It sure costs a lot, so it can't be the chair's fault, etc. etc." A chair is either comfortable or it's not. Sit in one before you buy. Sit in one before you buy. Sit in one before you buy.

Am I insane? Perhaps foolish might be a better term. Is it comfortable? Yes. Is it nice looking? Yes, I think so. Is it well engineered with quality construction? Yes. Is it better than the Aeron? They are too similar for me to determine which is better (I sat in the Aeron for only 30 or 40 minutes), but the Mirra comes with less adjustments, which is the only reason I opted for it over the Aeron (for me, the fewer and more logical the adjustments, the better). Others may prefer the Aeron, I know I liked it. So, is it worth $800? Heavens no (and neither is the Aeron), but what are you going to do? That's the price of admission for the "fully loaded" Mirra. Heck, I looked at another ergonomic chair that was $1,400, which if I saw it in someone's home and guessed the price, I would have guessed under $50 (I've seen patio chairs that looked nicer and felt more comfortable). So compared to that chair, the Mirra is a bargain and an engineering wonder. Speaking of patio chairs, I sat in one that was just as comfortable as the Mirra or Aeron and almost as smooth when rocking, leaning back, or spinning around. Honestly, I came very close to buying it for my home office (I could have purchased a baker's dozen of these chairs and gone to a nice restaurant for the price of this Mirra), but alas, the Mirra is more practical for inside the home and has casters. Still, that was one extremely comfortable, nice looking and well-designed patio chair... The graphite framed Mirra I purchased came in two pieces (the base, including the seat or saddle, and the back) and was very simple to put together (it took all of two bolts and 10 minutes ... 5 of those minutes were spent looking for a socket wrench). There are only very minor, barely audible squeaks and groans (so far), and it feels solid in all respects. Its lumbar support is easily adjustable and first rate. The open back and finely meshed saddle allow air to circulate, which is a big plus. The saddle is also quite flexible, while the back is stiff and supportive. It took a day or two to get use to it, but since it replaced a real piece of junk, it wouldn't be that hard for me to get use to a park bench with broken slats. That being said, I have absolutely no complaints about the Mirra's comfort, construction or looks. It's a very good chair, but one really needs to try it out before buying (body shapes and sizes are all different). Obviously, if this chair was reasonably priced, I'd give it a better recommendation. But it is what it is, an overpriced piece of good-looking, well-engineered furniture that happily is very comfortable. Between 1 and 10, I give the Mirra a marginal 7 (but only if it lasts as long as advertised). Put a sticker price of 3 or 4 hundred dollars on it and I'd be the first to sing its praises and tell everyone how amazing it is for the money. If you're well-healed, then sure, buy it and enjoy the heck out of it (I'm certainly enjoying it). For those looking for something more down to earth, I sat in this great looking, 5-star, $60 patio chair....
