Once I got these working, they are great. I got 3 out of 4 working. The problem is when pairing, the light is suppose to flash, but if it is it isn't noticeable. On two of them, I said it was flashing even though I could not see it and I managed to get them hooked up. On the last one, I finally gave up after trying over 25 times. Why do most of these things say, "it will flash blue, or green", but it is usually in red.     • Hard to connect

These things were very hard to connect. I spent a few hours of trials and errors. I tried to connect using the HBN Smart App on my iPhone, but couldn’t connect. I even turned off the 5GHz band on my router. So installed the Smart Life App on an iPad instead and was able to connect using the AP mode. I tried to do the same thing with the iPhone, but couldn’t add the device, not sure why. Once the devices were added, controlling them work very well. The Smart Life app on the iPhone also showed the devices once they were added via the iPad. Integration with Alexa is simple by just adding the Smart Life skill to Alexa and link your Smart Life account with Alexa. The HBN Smart app on the iPad couldn’t connect the device either. So I recommend using the Smart Life app instead. I wouldn’t recommend this if you are not tech savvy. The timer function works well, but you have to schedule a time to turn off and the the time to turn on separately. Instruction how I connect is below. 1. Installed Smart Life App on iPad and register for an account. 2. Open the app and go to add device, and follow instruction: type in your 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi SSID and password 3. Plug the Smart plug into wall outlet, wait a few seconds, then press and hold the power button for about 5 seconds. The light will flash quickly ( a bit hard to tell). Now, press the power button and hold again for 5 seconds. The light should flash slowly. 4. In the App, once you reach the screen where it ask whether the light blinks fast or slow, choose Slow. 5. Now it will ask you to connect to your device, so click on Connection in the app, or just go directly to your WiFi setting on your iPad. There should be a new SSID for “SmartPlugxxxx”. Connect to that and go back to your App. 6. Once you go back to your app, it should automatically try to discover the device and will list the Smartplug. Click on it to add. 7. When I went back to the app Home Screen, I saw the device added, but the app continued to work on something and I couldn’t do anything else. So I close out the app and restart it. It worked fine after that. 8. You can link your account with Alexa from the app. Click on “Me” button at the bottom, and under Third Party Services, click on Alexa and follow instruction. I hope this can help someone else. I am still not sure why I can’t add the devices via my phone. ... show more

    • Synchronization made easy; loving the app

Installed 9 of these fairly easy. Already got mine to all start at 5:30pm and end at 5:30am. First thing I did was scan the QR code to install the app then ignored the paper instruction. The app is everything and all that is needed. To make the installation easy, don't plug this thing yet until you are on step 1 on the app (there are only 3 steps). Step 1: Plug it in, see the red light (it powers on its own) then click next. Step 2: Hold the power button for 5 seconds until it powers off, then you will see a red and purple/pinkish light alternating. Tap on the little circle to confirm. Step 3. Click next and let it do its thing for about a minute or two. Pros: The app is what sold it for me. It is much more user friendly and has better features than my Lutron app which I use use for my hard-wired smart switches, and I paid less for everything. Cons: Nothing for now but will update if any of them 9 I installed fails. I wish they were smaller coz they are taking up the space for other socket. Other thoughts: Always good to test once installed. Also, it helped that both my router and wired repeater are dual-band. 2.4 Ghz is really all you need; perfect for long range band and besides, it's not meant for passing any other internet traffic. Ok. After we got our tree up the power button ended up being at the back of the creed. Made It very difficult to turn lights on and off . Decided to buy another power plug to plug lights in so we could use Alexa to turn lights on smd off. It worked just like we expected. We were already using one for our living room light. Do It only made sense to use It for the Christmas tree lights lights also. Worked like a charm. My grandchildren could put the lights on and off. When they wanted. ... show more

Yes, they're a little limited in range, compared to other modules I've installed, but once they're set up, they work fine. That's the other problem: it takes some effort to make these link properly. The first module was a real pain for me. Turns out I was outside the module's range. Once I brought it closer to the router, it connected on the second try. Feeling bold, I connected a second module - after 4 tries. Again, your mileage may vary. Hope so, because I was ready to return the whole mess to Amazon... ... show more

So, it took me 3 hours over 2 days to get the first one set up. Accomplished that after watching the very helpful video. The written, included instructions are almost a waste of time. 3 hours of my time to be exact. But once set up (I had better luck with the SmartLife app than the HBN app intrigrating with Alexa), they function very nicely. But rather than clutter my phone with each manufacturer's app, the smart life app works fine with every wifi device I have.
